- The limits of inculturation in liturgical music. Liturgical music is nowadays experiencing a serious crisis. Many various attempts are made to introduce various substitutes for true musical art into the liturgy, often without control. Incorrectly understood inculturation in this area causes a fear of the future. We are now witnessing occurrences of performance of popular music in the liturgy, even though it bears no connection to the liturgy of the Church. Discussing this issue, the author of this article first deals critically with the bright examples of smuggling of this type of music into sacred rites referring to the teaching of the Church, and then shows the directions of contemporary inculturation. He proposes specific solutions to the problems, both in the liturgy and in the paraliturgical services. He emphasizes that properly understood inculturation in liturgical music is endowed with a great responsibility which, in order to create valuable music that is part of the spiritual experience of the participants of the liturgy, must not be underestimated. To guard the limits of inculturation in liturgical music, the urgent need of contemporary clergymen is to „evangelize” the liturgy and meet its requirements.
