    The presenting article presents the main themes of Piotr Semenenko polemics with Andrzej Towiański, which took place in the environment of the Great Emigration. It concerned many matters, including some philosophical ideas related to the Catholic faith. They belonged mainly to fhe field of interest in the philosophy of cognition, general theory of being, philosophy of God and religion, angelology, philosophy of man and philosophy of history. Semenenko’s polemic with Towiański resulted from their representing different philosophical traditions. The first referred essentially to Thomistic philosophy, while the second drew from ideas to Neoplatonic philosophy and the currents of thought that were close to it, which cannot be reconciled with the Thomistic and Christian vision of the world, especially in the matter of understanding its most important elements, which are God and the human person. The use of Thomism in the fight against Towianism has shown that it is the form of Christian philosophy that best serves the Catholic faith as its intellectual foundation, which seems important in the context of current discussions about the doctrinal shape of this faith and its threats from religious syncretism.

    From the Thomistic point of view, the outline of philosophy of spiritual being takes into account three basic dimensions of the spirit. The first deals with the existence of independent personal beings, i.e. individual substances: God, angelic beings and human souls. The second is related to the fundamental phenomena of the inner life of a person, that is powers of the soul, their acts and objects. The last form of the spirit deals with personal external activity in the course of which all kinds of extra-mental beings are created. These include, above all, the multiple forms of the so-called spiritual culture, present nowadays mainly in science, art, morals and religion.

    Artykuł jest próbą syntetycznego ujęcia dorobku Mariana Jaworskiego w aspekcie zasadniczego sposobu i kierunku jego myśli oraz najważniejszych, formułowanych przez niego idei, obecnych zwłaszcza w jego ostatniej książce, stanowiącej trzeci tom jego prac, w którym zawarte są w zdecydowanej większości artykuły najnowsze. Są one świadectwem drogi, jaką przebył w swym sposobie rozumienia filozofii i problemów przez nią podejmowanych, potwierdzeniem pewnego procesu ewolucji, jaka miała miejsce w jego życiu na polu tej nauki. Świadczą o niej dość wyraźnie zarysowujące się trzy fazy w jego aktywności filozoficznej pod względem metodologicznym oraz podejmowanej problematyki. Pierwszą stanowiły  zainteresowania metafizyką ogólną. Kolejna związana była z realizowaniem idei metafizyk szczegółowych i stosowanych w oparciu o narzędzia poznawcze metafizyki ogólnej w  podstawowych naukach filozoficznych (filozofia religii, antropologia filozoficzna i filozofia Boga). Końcowa natomiast wyrażała się w realizacji powyższej idei metafizyk  w dyscyplinach bardziej partykularnych, obejmujących filozofię chrześcijaństwa i jego niektórych fenomenów, jak modlitwa i życie konsekrowane, oraz filozofię zjawisk spoza kręgu ściśle chrześcijańskiego (cierpienie, humanizm, dialog).
    The article is an attempt to present the philosophical achievements of Marian Jaworski in terms of the basic method and direction of his thoughts as well as the most important ideas. These ideas are particularly present in his last book, which constitutes the third volume of his work, in which the vast majority of his most recent articles are included. They are a testimony to the way he understood philosophy and the problems it raises. They are also the most persuading sign of the process of evolution that took place in his scientific life. It is evidenced by the existence of three, quite clearly outlined, phases in his philosophical research. Each one is distinct from another in terms of prevailing methodology used, and the philosophical questions which had been raised. The first phase of his philosophical investigations was connected with general metaphysics. The second one was related to the application of the ideas of special and applied metaphysics on the basis of the cognitive tools of general metaphysics in the main philosophical disciplines (philosophy of religion, philosophical anthropology and philosophy of God). The third one, however, was expressed in the application of the above mentioned metaphysical ideas in more specialized philosophical disciplines, such as Christian philosophy (e.g. philosophy of prayer, philosophy of consecrated life), and in the philosophy of specifically human phenomena (philosophy of suffering, of humanism and of dialogue).

    Artykuł jest próbą wyodrębnienia i ogólnego opisu aspektów filozoficznych, zawartych w teorii duchowości ekologicznej papieża Franciszka oraz porównania ich z myślą tomistyczną, rozwijaną przez jej polskich przedstawicieli w czasach współczesnych. Aspekty te dostrzeżono na gruncie wielu dyscyplin filozoficznych, ponieważ w tego typu duchowości chodzi o stosunek człowieka do najogólniej pojętej rzeczywistości realnej, czyli do samego siebie, przyrody, kultury i religii. W toku analizy obu stanowisk zauważono liczne analogie, a także pewne rozbieżności w sposobie widzenia przyrody, osoby ludzkiej, kultury (etyki) oraz religii, które przynajmniej częściowo można tłumaczyć niejednoznacznością niektórych sformułowań papieskich.
    This article is an attempt to isolate and describe the philosophical aspects of Pope Francis’s theory of ecological spirituality and compare them with Thomistic thought, as developed by Polish philosophers in modern times. This is something philosophers have already noticed, because this type of spirituality is about man’s relationship with the most generally understood reality, i.e. himself, nature, culture and religion. Our examination of both positions will reveal numerous analogies as well as some differences in their understanding of nature, the human person, culture (ethics) and religion, which at least partly can be explained by the ambiguity of some papal formulations.

    This article discusses the perspectives for the development and thus the future of Thomistic philosophy in Poland. This issue is considered with respect to specific studies outside the main object of interest of general metaphysics, and which take the form of detailed and applied metaphysics. While the former refers to a narrow field of research, the second uses the achievements of other and more basic philosophical sciences, including general metaphysics. Metaphysics of this kind constitutes a broadly understood study of what is most fundamental not for being as such, but for all basic types of objects in the realms of nature and culture. It is not, however, alternative to general metaphysics, which explores reality in its transcendental dimension. On the contrary, by using its achievements it establishes a connection with it and constitutes its necessary complement. By developing this metaphysics, this article illustrates the philosophy of nature, philosophical anthropology and two forms of the philosophy of human action, namely, religion and morality. Some of the topics they suggest have already been taken up by many representatives of Thomist thought in Poland, while others can be the object of future research. The realization of these forms of metaphysics corresponds not only to the structure of a pluralistic reality and an interrelated series of dependencies, but also highlights current and new problems that require a thorough and comprehensive approach, which can only be provided by a metaphysical perspective within Thomistic philosophy.
    W artykule poruszono problem perspektyw rozwoju, a tym samym przyszłości filozofii tomistycznej na podstawie sytuacji w Polsce. Otóż taką szansę widzi się dla tej filozofii w badaniach bardziej partykularnych, znajdujących się poza głównym obiektem zainteresowań metafizyki ogólnej. Każdorazowo przybierają one postać metafizyk szczegółowych i stosowanych. Pierwsza z nazw nawiązuje do zawężonego pola badań, druga natomiast jest uzasadniona korzystaniem z dorobku innych nauk filozoficznych, bardziej podstawowych, włącznie z metafizyką ogólną. Metafizyki tego rodzaju stanowią szeroko pojęte studium tego, co jest najbardziej fundamentalne nie dla bytu jako takiego, ale dla wszelkich podstawowych typów przedmiotów w sferze natury i kultury. Nie stanowią one jednak alternatywy dla metafizyki ogólnej, która bada rzeczywistość w wymiarze transcendentalnym, ponieważ korzystając z jej dorobku, zachowują z nią łączność oraz stanowią jej konieczne dopełnienie. Jako zaś typowe dyscypliny filozoficzne, dające możliwość rozwijania owych metafizyk, podano w artykule filozofię przyrody, antropologię filozoficzną oraz dwie formy filozofii ludzkiego działania, czyli religię i moralność. W ich przypadku wskazywano zarówno na tematy już podjęte przez wielu przedstawicieli myśli tomistycznej w Polsce oraz na te, jakie są możliwe do podjęcia. Realizacja tych form metafizyki odpowiada nie tylko strukturze rzeczywistości pluralistycznej i jednocześnie powiązanej ze sobą szeregiem zależności, ale też problemom aktualnym, nowym, wymagającym ujęcia gruntownego i całościowego, jakie stwarza dopiero perspektywa metafizyczna, rozpatrywana z pozycji filozofii tomistycznej.
