- The article deals with the issue of cultural competences of young people and the factors that shape them. The author writes about the insufficient role of modern school in the process of shaping cultural competences and arousing the cultural needs of young people. Author indicates the destructive role of the contemporary, socio-political climate of „consent” in this dangerous process. Author also considers the ways of supplementing the modern education process with content and activities that raise the cultural competences of young people. The resoning conducted in the text are crowned with suggestions for changes which – according to the author – should be made in this matter, as well as suggestions for undertaking specific actions (animation of culture) raising the skills of young people in dealing with the complex and threatening contemporary cultural space.
