    W artykule poddano analizie wybrane wątki z historii Towarzystwa Uniwersytetów Ludowych Rzeczpospolitej Polskiej, które działało w latach 1945-1948. Była to niezależna organizacja społeczna koordynująca działalność internatowych uniwersytetów ludowych w pierwszych latach po II wojnie światowej czyli w okresie, w którym - na bazie doświadczeń przedwojennych i prac przygotowawczych przeprowadzonych w okresie okupacji - osiągnęły one apogeum swojego rozwoju na ziemiach polskich. Niestety w wyniku odgórnych decyzji politycznych Towarzystwo zostało najpierw połączone z inną organizacją w Towarzystwo Uniwersytetu Robotniczego i Ludowego, by w roku 1950 ulec całkowitej likwidacji.
    The article analyzes selected threads from the history of the Folk High Schools of the Republic of Poland Society (in Polish: Towarzystwo Uniwersytetów Ludowych Rzeczpospolitej Polskiej), which operated in the years 1945-1948. It was an independent educational organization that coordinated the activities of folk high schools in the first years after World War II – that is, the period in which these institutions reached the peak of their development in Poland, based on pre-war experience and preparatory work carried out during the occupation. Unfortunately, as a result of top-down political decisions, the Society was first merged with another organization into the Society of Workers' and People's University (in Polish: Towarzystwo Uniwersytetu Robotniczego i Ludowego), and finally it was liquidated in 1950.

    Opis:
    The article is an attempt at presenting the role cultural education played in folk high school type of educational institutions for over more than a hundred years of their existence. It shows the process of gradual involvement of folk high schools in performing cultural tasks. Originally they focused on other things – mainly on awakening civil awareness of peasants. The author distinguishes three periods in the world’s history of the relations between FHS and cultural education: the first one – which emphasised the necessity of building new cultural awareness of residents of rural areas in the spirit of agrarism (19th and the beginning of 20th century); second – during which a new type of folk high school appears in many countries – FHS groups of interest, emphasising meeting the cultural needs of their social communities (since the turn of the 1960s and the 1970s); third – during which they began to be institutions available for everyone (folk high school for all), organizing various types of leisure time activities – including a wide cultural offer (till the present). The author concludes that the evolution of the place of cultural education in folk high schools sketched in the article (Poland was 20 years behind in this respect) shows that we have reached such a phase of FHS development in many countries that the institutions can constitute important elements of cultural animation in the region in which they function. The author also encourages individual regional communities in various parts of the world to use that proven in action educational concept when they plan modern educational activities connected with cultural activity.

    2018 marks the 25th anniversary of establishing Academic Andragogic Society (in Polish: Akademickie Towarzystwa Andragogiczne, abbrev.: ATA), a countrywide social research entity. The article recalls its origin, history, organizational transformations and the most important trends in its activity over the past quarter of a century.The author also tries to assess the achievements of the Academic Andragogic Society in its most significant areas set at the beginning of its operation. The article is an interesting contribution to the history and practice of Polish adult education and the social research movement in social sciences in the Third Republic of Poland.
    W 2018 roku mija 25. rocznica powołania do życia ogólnopolskiego społecznego podmiotu naukowego o nazwie Akademickie Towarzystwo Andragogiczne (ATA). Artykuł prezentuje genezę jego powstania, historię i przemiany organizacyjne oraz najważniejsze kierunki działań podejmowanych na przestrzeni minionego ćwierćwiecza. Autor podejmuje również próbę oceny dotychczasowych dokonań Akademickiego Towarzystwa Andragogicznego w najważniejszych z wyznaczonych w chwili powstania obszarów jego działania. Całość jest zatem przyczynkiem do dziejów teorii i praktyki polskiej edukacji dorosłych oraz społecznego ruchu naukowego w obrębie nauk społecznych w III RP.

    RESIDENTIAL FOLK HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE POMERANIA REGION
    Opis:
    This article points out the way of life and educational achievements of Narcyz Kozłowski - famous social activist, teacher of youth and adult educator in Gdansk Pomerania region during the second half of the twentieth century. The reason to summarize the achievements of that teacher has become the century anniversary of his birth, which fall in 2013. The author shows various educational initiatives that have been initiated by N. Kozłowski, or in which he took an active part. Therefore sketch presents a period of his youth and higher education in Warsaw, his fate of war and underground activities in the Secret Association of Rural Youth “Young Forest” (Polish: Tajny Związek Mlodziezy Wiejskiej „Mlody Las”) and a number of efforts to promote the idea of residential folk high schools during the Polish People’s Republic in the years 1945-1989 (e.g. Folk High School in Bielawki, Baltic Folk High School in Opalenie) and in the first decade of the Third Republic of Poland (e.g. the Committee for Renaissance of the Polish Movement of Folk High Schools “Young Forest” /Polish: Komitet Odrodzenia Polskiego Ruchu Uniwersytetow Ludowych „Mlody Las”). Sketch ends with an appeal for the preservation of N. Kozlowski as a social activist and adult educator in the collective memory of the Pomeranian and Polish teachers/andragogues, because he wrote an interesting card in the history of Polish adult education in the rural areas in the past century.

    Opis:
    The article presents the origins, chosen aspects of implementation and the achievements of the Swedish-Polish Project: Democratisation of Education – “S(z) koldem”, coordinated by Vuxenutbildarcentrum (Adult Education Centre) of the University in Linköping (Sweden) and the Institute of Pedagogy of the University of Gdańsk. The project was carried out in schools and institutions supporting the school system and in cultural institutions from the entire country (mainly the Pomorze and Wielkopolska regions). The project “S(z)koldem” was addressed to active teachers of schools at different levels of education, pedagogues of different care and education institutions, librarians and employees of other Polish cultural institutions. The main goal of the project was to promote democracy within and around Polish (and Swedish) cultural and educational institutions as well as to promote civic education among their employees. The final part of the article attempts to formulate assessments related to the effects of the implementation of this Swedish-Polish project from the perspective of over a decade from its completion.
    W artykule przedstawione zostały geneza, wybrane aspekty realizacyjne oraz dorobek Szwedzko-Polskiego Projektu Demokratyzacji Oświaty „S(z)koldem”, koordynowanego przez Vuxenutbildarcentrum /Centrum Edukacji Dorosłych/ Uniwersytetu w Linköpingu (Szwecja) i Instytut Pedagogiki Uniwersytetu Gdańskiego. Projekt był realizowany w szkołach i instytucjach wspomagających system szkolnictwa oraz w placówkach kultury z terenu całego kraju (głównie Pomorza i Wielkopolski). Adresatami projektu „S(z)koldem” byli czynni nauczyciele szkół różnych szczebli kształcenia, pedagodzy z różnorodnych placówek opiekuńczowychowawczych oraz bibliotekarze i pracownicy innych polskich instytucji upowszechniania kultury. Głównym celem projektu było zaś propagowanie demokracji wewnątrz i wokół polskich (i szwedzkich) placówek kultury i edukacji oraz promowanie edukacji obywatelskiej wśród ich pracowników. W końcowej części artykułu podjęto próbę sformułowania ocen dotyczących efektów realizacji tego szwedzko-polskiego projektu z perspektywy kilkunastu lat od jego zakończenia.

    Opis:
    In the article the author tries to analyze the place of Ignacy Solarz and his educational activity in the publishing output of the theoreticians and practitioners of Polish education/andragogics from the end of the Second World War until modern times. The author indicates three post-war waves of increased interest in the achievements of this remarkable education activitist working mostly in rural areas among Polish teachers/andragogues. Each of these waves resulted in an increased number of publications devoted to his educational ideas and practice: firstly in the 1940s, when the authors tried to refer directly to Solarz’s post-war activity, then between the 1960s and the 1980s, when Solarz was mainly presented as a promoter of people’s the People’s Republic of Poland, whose educational ideas could be used for education in the new – people’s – social reality, and lastly at the beginnings of the Third Republic of Poland, when the authors tried to focus on Solarz’s achievements in the context of the search for Polish models of civic education and democratization of rural education. The second part of the article presents a proposition of the author to read anew the educational/andragogic achievements of I. Solarz, emphasizing the common, socially universal educational values and practical educational actions. Only such an approach to Solarz’s legacy, as the author of the article believes, can help to integrate him in the general Polish educational legacy and to save the activist from gradual but clearly progressing sinking into oblivion.

    This text is an appeal to Polish Members of Parliament - members of National and Ethnic Minorities Committee visiting Pomeranian Region in July 2010 to take notice of the social usefulness of Folk High Schools. The author recalls the contributions of those institutions in the development of Polish rural areas, and shows - on the example of Kashubian Folk High School - how important those institutions of adult education can be in building local democracy outside big agglomerations also today. The appeal, in a form of a typical gloss, once again tries to encourage the members of the Parliament of the Republic of Poland to make the effort of providing comprehensive regulation of legal and organizational situation of Polish Folk High Schools and other adult education entities of non-commercial character.
