    Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie analizy tekstów prasowych zamieszczonych w niemieckim „DER SPIEGEL” oraz „SPIEGEL ONLINE” z okresu 31.05.2010 – 07.07.2010 poświęconych wynikom oraz dwóm kluczowym kandydatom wyborów prezydenckich w Polsce 2010 – Jarosławowi Kaczyńskiemu i Bronisławowi Komorowskiemu. W szczególności analizie poddane zostają sformułowania i wyrażenia użyte w tekstach na określenie wyników wyborów oraz obydwu kluczowych postaci zmagań wyborczych, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem potencjałów ewaluacyjnych zawartych w ww. określeniach.

    This paper addresses the question of the specificity of professional (specialist) communication among graduates of the German Studies working in business services in Poland. The research results presented are based on the global results of the project “The Language Barometer of Lódz 2021. Employees in the Modern Business Services Sector.” The target group are employees of companies in the Polish business services sector and, at the same time, graduates of the Master’s degree programme in German at the University of Lódz. The research questions of the survey are primarily directed at the required foreign language skills of the target group, areas of application of foreign languages, the knowledge and specialist areas to be mastered, language training in the company and multilingualism in professional communication.

    This paper’s main goal is to present the outcome of a field study from 2015 among the companies representing the sector of modern services for business in the area of Lodz. The main interest of the study were the information on the foreign languages and languages for specific purposes being in use in the outsourcing sector on the local job market as well as the main areas of use of foreign languages. As a conclusion, the paper presents various examples of study and training exercises for the use of the German language in business communication.

    As a cultural institution for debate on European history, the House of European History in Brussels is a perfect example for the complementary relation between history and the present, since its main aim, as it is being claimed, “gives visitors the opportunity to learn about European history and to engage them in critical reflection about its meaning for the present day”. The main focus of the article is the analysis of the speeches of German and Austrian MPs presented in the plenary debates of the European Parliament in spring 2011 on the expenditures on the building, in which the House of the European History is to be established. The focus of the analysis lies on the lexical level in order to prove the typical aspect of the political language in the European Parliament, which is the special mixture of various specialist languages.

    Karta Praw Podstawowych zobowiązuje Unię Europejską do poszanowania różnorodności językowej. Parlament Europejski, jak żaden inny organ Unii Europejskiej, zobowiązał się do przestrzegania zasad integralnej wielojęzyczności. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie problematyki związanej z przestrzeganiem zasad „integralnej wielojęzyczności” w Parlamencie Europejskim (PE). Począwszy od przedstawienia struktury, uprawnień i kompetencji oraz zasad funkcjonowania PE, uwaga skierowana zostaje na kwestię wielojęzyczności w poszczególnych instytucjach i organach Unii Europejskiej, zwłaszcza Parlamentu Europejskiego, ze wskazaniem również negatywnych zjawisk związanych z przestrzeganiem zasad multilingualizmu. Artykuł zamyka przegląd możliwych płaszczyzn językoznawczej eksploracji w odniesieniu do językowych fenomenów bezpośrednio związanych z realizowaną przez PE zasadą językowego równouprawnienia.

    Opis:
    Once a demand of the student movement of the 1960s, the call for more practical relevance in higher education is being expressed again in student surveys. This has gained importance across Europe, not least as a consequence of the implementation of the Bologna Reform. Alongside employability and competence orientation, practical orientation has become one of the central issues in the debate about the curricular focus of university programmes. This paper seeks to briefly outline the concepts behind the keywords employability, competence orientation and practice orientation and discuss how they relate to the traditional (self-)understanding of universities. On the basis of examples it will then consider what concrete contributions Applied Linguistics as an academic discipline (along with its sub-disciplines) can make to the practical orientation of degrees in languages.

    The article contributes to current discourses on the opportunities, challenges and limits for foreign and specialised language didactics in the context of the closer cooperations between Universities and the wider economic and social environment. It presents and discusses the background, origins, results and perspectives of the research project “The Language Barometer of Lodz 2021. Employees of the modern business services sector”. The research questions of the survey are primarily directed at the required foreign language skills of the target group, areas of application of foreign languages, the knowledge and specialist areas to be mastered, language training in the company, as well as the aspect of multilingualism in the context of professional communication. The paper will present and discuss the global results of the survey, and also provide a full package of anonymous raw data collected during the survey for possible further analysis and study. The data obtained in the survey can be used for projects and research initiatives on various aspects of specialised communication in an intercultural work environment, but may also find application in, among other things, the development or modification of curricula at different levels of learning, the creation of specialisation modules, language courses, workshops or educational materials.
