    The article is devoted to selected issues concerning the contemporary landscape identity of completely deserted localities situated in the part of former East Prussia incorporated into Poland. It presents conclusions drawn from an analysis of cartographic materials and on-site research on high greenery’s participation in and importance to the creation of the landscape of uninhabited settlement units. High greenery is one of the main components of the space of abandoned localities in the research area. In total, 94% of completely deserted settlements in the Polish part of former East Prussia are partially or completely covered with high greenery. Relatively often – in 39% of all uninhabited localities – high greenery forms isolated patches in the landscape structure. This is reflected in the process of observation of both the horizontal and vertical landscape structure of a locality, as demonstrated on the example of the case study of one of the old settlements.

    Opis:
    In this analysis, forms of archaeology popularisation with a spatial representation and its output, have been evaluated. On the basis of chosen examples, critical analysis of dominating forms of narration in the archaeology popularisation discourse, especially taking into consideration their landscape aspect (historical geography), has been performed. Permanent and ephemeral relic-preserved spaces and/or heritagescape, have been specified.
    W opracowaniu poddano rozważaniu problematykę, posiadających reprezentacje przestrzennie, formy popularyzowania archeologii i jej dorobku. Na wybranych przykładach dokonano krytycznego omówienia dominujących narracji w popularyzacji archeologii, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem ich aspektu krajobrazowego, za sprawą włączenia do analizy perspektywy geograficznej (geografii historycznej). Wyróżniono podział na stałe i efemeryczne przestrzenie zachowanych reliktowo i/lub konstruowanych krajobrazów dziedzictwa (heritagescape).

    W opracowaniu podjęto próbę systematyzacji wiodących przekształceń zachodzących we współczesności w przestrzeni cmentarzy wyznaniowych znajdujących się na terenie Polski. Cezurę czasową analiz ograniczono do okresu trwającego od zakończenia drugiej wojny światowej do chwili obecnej. Wyróżniono cztery zasadnicze rodzaje przekształceń podzielone na dwa główne kierunki przemian zachodzących w czasie: harmonijną ekspresję temporalną (zastój/zanik; kontynuację) oraz dysharmonijną ekspresję temporalną (desakralizacja; resakralizacja i komemoracja). Każdy rodzaj przekształceń został omówiony osobno na wybranych przykładach. Należy jednak podkreślić, że zaproponowany podział nie ma charakteru rozłącznego, gdyż biorąc pod uwagę mnogość czynników determinujących zmiany struktur materialnych cmentarzy, niekiedy procesy zachodzą równolegle lub zazębiają się w czasie.
    The study attempts to systematize the leading transformations observed nowadays in denominational cemeteries located in Poland. The time frame of the analyses was limited to the period from the end of the Second World War to the present. Four basic types of transformations have been distinguished and divided into two main directions of changes reported over time, namely: harmonious temporal expression (stagnation/decline, continuation) and disharmonious temporal expression (desacralisation, resacralisation and commemoration). Each type of transformation is discussed separately based on selected examples. However, it needs to be emphasised that the proposed division is not disjunctive as considering the multitude of factors that determine changes in the material structures of cemeteries, processes sometimes run parallel to each other or overlap in time.

    The paper presents the proposal for an interdisciplinary, humanistically oriented analysis of extinct settlements on the example of the results of the author’s research project realized on the territory of the Pisz county in the Warmińsko-Mazurskie voivodship. The project, embedded in the current research trend on the transformations of the contemporary landscape, was focused on the analysis of the relics of the 20th century extinct settlement structures and their material heritage. The research topic was based on the compilation of theoretical assumptions of historical geography (e.g. Koter 1994; Figlus 2016) and fieldwork methodology developed through historical archeology, including contemporary archeology (e.g. Vařeka et al. 2008). The results of the study were published in the article on the case study of the disappearing village – Sokoły Górskie. The research results presented both in the form of cartographic synthesis and field surveying studies conducted within landscape structures show the large quantitative and qualitative dimension of transformations that were taking place as a result of violent socioeconomic changes of the 20th century (e.g. rapid depopulation), which were the effect of global armed conflicts.

    Krajobraz konfliktu to koncepcja przykuwająca obecnie uwagę w studiach krajobrazowych. Kierunkuje analizy przede wszystkim w ramach archeologii współczesności, stanowiąc jeden z kluczy odczytywania historii ze struktur otaczającego nas krajobrazu kulturowego. W artykule przedstawiono propozycję rozszerzenia koncepcji krajobrazu konfliktu w dyskursie o żydowskim materialnym dziedzictwie religijnym. Humanistyczne zwrócenie się ku materialności odsłania nowe konteksty Zagłady, w tym jej nie-ludzkie, bo krajobrazowe reprezentacje. Adaptację koncepcji w studiach nad żydowskim dziedzictwem religijnym przedstawiono na przykładzie badań przeprowadzonych w przestrzeni Nowego Cmentarza Żydowskiego w Łodzi. W pracy omówiono wyniki analiz dotyczących wybranych elementów krajobrazu konfliktu stanowiących składowe m.in. substancji nagrobkowej nekropolii. W badaniach wykorzystano metodykę nieinwazyjnej dokumentacji terenowej oraz wykonano analizę komparatystyczną danych fotogrametrycznych i teledetekcyjnych (m.in. chmury punktów z lotniczego skaningu laserowego, zdjęć lotniczych). Na tej podstawie skonstruowano przestrzenne modele zinwentaryzowanych struktur dziedzictwa materialnego, stanowiących historyczne palimpsesty, i wyodrębniono elementy krajobrazu konfliktu.
    The landscape of conflict is a conception which has recently attracted a lot of attention in landscape studies. It chiefly inspires studies that represent the field of the archeology of the present, thus constituting one of the keys to reading? history from the structures of the surrounding cultural landscape. This article proposes to extend the conception of the landscape of conflict into the discourse about Jewish material religious heritage. Attention paid by the humanist to materiality reveals new contexts of the Holocaust, including its non-human, landscape representations. Here, an adaptation of the conception in the studies of Jewish religious heritage has been carried out on the example of research conducted in the vicinity of the New Jewish Cemetery in Łódź. This article presents the results of studies of chosen elements of this landscape of conflict, elements which, along with other functions, constitute the physical fact of the gravestones of the necropolis. The research drawn upon was gathered using the methods of non-invasive field documentation; the analysis involves the comparisons of photogrammetric and teledetection data, including point clouds obtained by laser scanning and aerial photographs. These were the basis for the spatial models of the structures of material heritage under consideration, which constitute historical palimpsests, and for the identification of the elements of this landscape of conflict.
