Opis:
Development of a comprehensive fracture model, which takes into account crack initiation and propagation behavior at the microscale level in the Dual Phase (DP) steels is presented in the present paper. At this stage of the research Authors proposed a numerical model, which takes into account ductile crack initiation and propagation through the ferrite phase. Developed model is based on digital material representation (DMR) of DP microstructure, which takes opportunity for modeling crack phenomena in an explicit manner. Proposed model of ductile crack behavior in the ferritic phase is based on the Johnson-Cook model. Particular attention is put on investigation of influence of martensite volume fraction in microstructure on failure behavior. Obtained results for two significantly different martensite volume fractions in the investigated microstructure are presented in this work.

Opis:
In order to improve mechanical, frictional or biocompatibility behavior of well know materials like titanium (Ti) or titanium nitride (TiN) scientists are trying to develop new manufacturing and processing operations. One of those methods, that provide interesting results, is called deposition process. During deposition a material is upgraded with new surface layers that are characterized by specific required properties. These layers have usually different mechanical properties in comparison with a substrate material. A combination of different properties of the deposited layers can significantly change behavior of the structure under an exploitation condition. However, layers have usually nanometer scale, which causes problems with performing standard plastometric tests. One of the possibilities to solve this issue is an application of specially designed tests like nanoindentation. Nanoindentation can provide valuable information regarding mechanical and strength behavior of nanostructure components. These investigations are of importance to properly identify and design properties of the mentioned deposited materials. Unfortunately, experimental analyses at these scales are usually very expensive. That is why Authors decided to develop a numerical model of the nanoindentation test to investigate material behavior under loading conditions that can support experimental research. The overall aim of this research is development of a failure model, which can take into account morphology of microstructure of ceramic TiN layer deposited on the silicon substrate. Modeling of crack behavior was realized on the basis of the extended finite element method (XFEM).

In vestigation of influence of TiN thin film morphology on deformation inhomogeneities is an overall subject of the research. Numerical modelling approach that was selected for the study is based on the digital material representation concept, which gives an opportunity to directly replicate columnar microstructure morphology of an investigated thin film. Particular attention in this paper is put on the discussion of the influence of cellular automata neighbourhood on thin-film digital morphologies and their further deformation behaviour. Additionally, an evaluation of representativeness aspects of the digital models, in particular, the analysis of the influence of a number of columns, their dimensions and variations in their properties on the material behaviour during compression tests is also presented. The non-periodic boundary conditions are assumed during the investigation. Obtained data in the form of equivalent stress distributions as well as homogenized stress-strain curves from analyzed case studies are presented and discussed within the paper.

Opis:
The main goal of the paper is dedicated to proper arrangement of the Finite Element (FE) and Random Cellular Automata (RCA) methods in order to develop numerical model of dynamic recrystallization (DRX) and therefore to simulate microstructure morphology changes during plastic deformation at elevated temperatures. In the approach, Finite Element solver provides information on equivalent stress and strain fields after subsequent time steps. Then these data are transferred to RCA model, which is responsible for evaluation of corresponding microstructure morphology evolution and dislocation density changes. Finally, information from the CA part is send back to the FE solver as an input for the next time step. As a result, a fully coupled RCAFE model to simulate progress of DRX is established. The present paper is directly focused on development of algorithms and methods to transfer input/output data between both FE and RCA models. The developed communication protocol is based on the Abaqus VUMAT subroutine. Examples of obtained results from the developed model are also presented to highlight its potential.

A review of various bulk metal forming processes that take into account influence of strain path changes on material flow is presented in this paper. Particular attention is put on computer aided design of innovative angular accumulative drawing (AAD) operation. Research in the area of development of metal forming processes taken advantage of strain path phenomena is conducted in many scientific laboratories as the strain patch change effect influences many crucial properties of the deformed material. As a result it provides a possibility of forming materials, which are e.g. difficult to form in a conventional manner. Advantages and limitations of the AAD process are summarized and presented in this work. Difficulties in development of the complex rheological model that takes in to account strain path changes in the deformed material are also presented and discussed.

Opis:
Investigation of the stress concentration in the nanomultilayer materials under exploitation conditions is the main objective of the work. During loading a failure can initiate and propagate, which have important impact on material strength and reliability. This is of importance when materials for biological applications are considered. Special features of the investigated material, including irregular shape of the boundaries and columnar structure of these layers lead to growth of local stresses in the material and may be responsible for mentioned instabilities. To capture this behavior during numerical modeling an innovative solutions are required. Authors propose numerical simulation, which combines algorithms of the deposition process for realistic digital material representation of coatings and finite element (FE) approach for modeling of material behavior under loading. Algorithm of the deposition process is implemented using the cellular automata (CA) approach. Based on the developed model, a simple plastometric compression tests are simulated to analyze stress distribution in the material and possibility of failure initiation. These results are compared qualitatively with experimental data, including ball-on-test and transmission electron microscope (TEM) observation. Obtained results are the basis for development of a numerical model for fracture propagation with adopted extended finite element method (XFEM).
Uzyskane wyniki w formie rozkładów naprężeń stały się podstawą do opracowania modelu procesu pękania w analizowanych materiałach z wykorzystaniem metody eXtended Finite Element Method (XFEM). Przykłady uzyskanych wyników również zamieszczono w niniejszej pracy.

ITS systems have been deployed for last one and a half decades. Their aim is to increase a traffic flow rate in a road network of an urbanized area, to improve the comfort of driving as well as to decrease the pollution. A lot of commercial software are is available to simulate road traffic in urbanized areas. Some of them are suitable to perform traffic simulations of intelligent transportation systems via traffic modeling. A process of traffic modeling exploiting numerical simulations for an urban area where an ITS is deployed requires provision of digital maps, traffic demand amongst city zones, traffic signalization micro-programs being executed in the environment that can imitate a dynamic behavior of traffic lights at intersections in the ITS. In this paper an execution environment, developed by the Ars Numerica Group, that launches a road traffic micro-simulation is used to audit a performance of intersections’ signalization micro-programs on one of the main arteries in the city of Wrocław (Poland).
