Opis:
Freshwater snails Melanoides tuberculata are among the most commonly kept aquarium molluscs. Their ability to rapidly grow population and a relatively low cost contribute to uncontrolled introductions in new areas by irresponsible owners. The species has been recorded so far in several countries of Western Europe, as well as in Poland, where it was able to settle a stable population in the thermally polluted system of Koninskie Lakes. The paper describes a new statement of this species in the Żerań Canal in Warsaw, Central Poland, where environmental molluscs of the Corbicula genus have also been noted. Four adult snails with black color of spirally twisted shells have been caught. No epibionts were observed on the snails, which could get into the environment with the molluscs. Due to large fluctuations in the temperature of the water in the Canal and its direct connection with the Vistula, it is recommended to cover the site with regular monitoring to determine the potential threat posed by the presence of the Melanoides tuberculata species.

Opis:
This paper describes an introduction of aquarium ornamental fish, Xiphophorus interspecies hybrid (Poeciliidae) in an artificial water reservoir in Pole Mokotowskie park complex in Warsaw, Poland. Caught individuals have been identified, described and presented in photographs. Measurements of selected physicochemical parameters of water were made and perspectives for the studied population were evaluated. The finding is discussed with available literature describing introductions of alien species with aquaristical origin in Polish waters.

Opis:
Aquarium fish are often kept pets. Due to inappropriate actions of fishkeepers some of them are released into natural environment in many countries around the world, also in Poland. Species of exotic ichthyofauna usually do not have the possibility of survival and reproduction in a temperate climate, however the environment of thermally polluted waters in Poland could provide the tropical fish with appropriate living conditions. Cold water species may settle stable populations and threaten native fauna and flora. This work, based on the available scientific literature, describes the invasive potential of aquarium fish species introduced in Poland. The scale of introducing alien species of aquatic origin into Polish waters is difficult to estimate. It is recommended that monitoring should cover the largest possible number of water reservoirs in this country.
