    Opis:
    The paper presents several attempts to express intuition concerning the understanding of knowledge and conviction by means of the conceptual apparatus of many-valued logic. J. Łoś’s pioneer system has been presented here, the system constructed by Ngoc Duc Ho, in which the internal logic in this system is used by the knowing subject as the three-valued logic of Łukasiewicz and the third logical value is understood as “unjustified”, and the four-valued system of N. Belnap, the system that allows for the occurrence of propositions which are evaluated both as true and false.

    The article presents systems of modal logics that are stronger than the S4 and weaker than the S5 systems. After a syntactic and semantic presentation of the systems, they are presented as applied to expressing the property of time. Then, after a discussion of some of Hintikka’s arguments concerning “the only” logic proper for the concept of knowledge and belief, against the background of a discussion of various concepts of knowledge and convictions, the application of the S4.2, S4.3, S4F systems as well as of the S4.4 system for expressing properties of epistemic concepts is shown.

    Artykuł podejmuje zagadnienie relacji między językoznawstwem a logiką. Punktem wyjścia są dyskusje między logikami a językoznawcami, które miały miejsce w ostatnich kilkunastu latach. W artykule poddano analizie wzmiankowane dyskusje i wskazano, że faktycznie wkradają się w nie nieporozumienia; spróbowano również dokładniej określić domenę logiki i ukazać, że różni się ona zasadniczo od domeny językoznawstwa.
    The relation between linguistics and logic is analysed in the paper. Its starting point are two discussions between logicians and linguists that took place in recent years. The main points of these discussions were presented and it was argued that they are based on some misunderstandings. Thereafter, the author tried to determinate the domains of linguistics and logic in more precise way and to show the differences between these domains.

    The article presents two attempts at applying J. Lukas iewicz's three-valued logic to analysis of the so-called gradable properties: T. Czeżowski's so-called ordering logics and J. Martin's attempt to connect Lukas iewicz's logic and the neo-Platonian hierarchy of entities. Unfortunately, those attempts were not successful. It can be noticed that in his approach Czeżowski mixed up gradability of truth with gradability of other properties. Martin found that Lukasiewicz's enriching of the division between truth and falsity with a third value suggests some neo-Platonian ontology in which truth - interchangeable with entity - is subject to gradation. However, he does not give an intuitively convincing way of reducing Lukas iewicz's threevalued logic to the corresponding Boole's algebra of compound properties (hence, to a structure belonging to the classical logic).

    The article presents some problems of logical representation of belief change. The problem of beliefs (approached in a synchronic way) was analyzed on the ground of epistemic or intuitionist logics. In the 1980’s works concerning logical reconstruction of belief change appeared. The basic conception here is the conception of belief change formulated by C. Alchouron, P. Gärdenfors and D. Makinson (abbreviated as AGM), based on the assumption that the belief state is represented by a non-contradictory set of propositions and that a belief change should be minimal (the postulate of economy). However, the AGM theory, characterized by a good formal shape, gives rise to several problems of the intuitive nature. Some of them are: the way the object of beliefs is understood, logical value of propositions that induce a change, the propositional way of representing beliefs, putting beliefs in an order and the way this order is formally represented.

    Opis:
    This paper considers and assesses the discussion between J. F. Drewnowski and S. Kamiński concerning how to apply logic in philosophy (more precisely: in general metaphysics within the Aristotelian-Thomistic tradition). In this debate, Drewnowski defended the position of the Krakow Circle according to which it is possible to apply the tools of formal logic in metaphysics. In opposition to Drewnowski, Kamiński formulated many arguments for the thesis that it is impossible to apply formal logic in philosophy. The second half of this paper draws some conclusions from this debate that are relevant to our current understanding of the application of logic in philosophy. n the final part of the paper we criticize Kamiński’s view, which is characteristic of the so-called Lublin philosophical school.
    Artykuł prezentuje i komentuje dyskusję pomiędzy J. F. Drewnowskim a S. Kamińskim, której przedmiotem było stosowanie logiki w filozofii, a ściślej w metafizyce ogólnej o orientacji arystotelesowsko-tomistycznej. Drewnowski prezentował w niej stanowisko reprezentatywne dla tzw. Koła Krakowskiego o możliwości stosowania narzędzi logiki formalnej w metafizyce, Kamiński takiej możliwości zaprzeczał. Spróbujemy wskazać pewne wnioski z tej dyskusji przydatne dla dzisiejszego rozumienia stosowania (stosowalności) logiki w filozofii. W końcowej partii podjęta jest próba znalezienia przyczyn stanowiska Kamińskiego, które jest reprezentatywne dla przedstawicieli tzw. lubelskiej szkoły filozoficznej.

Porównane zostanie pojęcie przekonania religijnego z pojęciem przekonania naukowego, następnie analiza Bocheńskiego koncepcji racjonalności przekonań religijnych (i ich uprawomocnienia) oraz ujęcia Tomasza z Akwinu pojęcia wiary w świetle logiki współczesnej.
    An article is an introductory analysis of concept of religious belief in the language of logic. In its first part, there is a comparison of the concept of religious belief with the concept of scientific belief, next part is a presentation and analysis of Bocheński’s conception of rationality of religious beliefs (and their justification), and the third part of article is an attempt of analysis of Aquinas conception of faith (in Sth II-II) in the light of contemporary logic.
