    Opis:
    The essay discusses an issue that has not yet been studied separately: Hannah Arendt and her autobiographical crumbs scattered across other people’s biographies that she wrote and in her own biographies, both literary and cinematic. I called it an attempt at thinking, i.e. a synonym of a (biographical) essay. When Arendt writes about, e. g. Walter Benjamin or Rahel Varnhagen, she also – sometimes – writes about herself. When she smokes a cigarette in a specific way (rather than any other) or speaks German, she creates specific non-verbal doppelganger-like constructions.

    Opis:
    The study is a multi-contextual review of the recollective essay by Piotr Matywiecki, entitled Old Edifice (Stary Gmach, Warsaw 2016). Not only do Katarzyna Kuczyńska-Koschany and Anita Jarzyna discuss the biographical dimension of the text devoted to the former premises of the Library of the University of Warsaw, where the author – a recognised poet and expert on Warsaw – worked for many years, but they also focus on another, more universal aspect of his deliberations, which tell a story about the departure of a certain intellectual generation – about an intellectual ethos and its genius loci on the map of Warsaw. At the same time, the reviewers emphasise and thematise the essential meaning of the essayistic form which favours erudite digressions and the composition of the book that is, to a great extent, subordinated to the logic of the depicted space and its spectral afterimages.
    Szkic jest wielokontekstowym omówieniem wspomnieniowego eseju Piotra Matywieckiego pt. Stary gmach (Warszawa 2016). Katarzyna Kuczyńska-Koschany i Anita Jarzyna nie tylko zwracają uwagę na biograficzny wymiar tekstu poświęconego fenomenowi dawnej siedziby Biblioteki Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego, gdzie przez lata pracował autor – rozpoznawalny współczesny poeta i varsawianista, ale również koncentrują się na innym, bardziej uniwersalnym aspekcie tych rozważań będących opowieścią o odchodzeniu pewnej formacji intelektualnej – o inteligenckim etosie i jego genius loci na mapie stolicy. Recenzentki podkreślają przy tym i tematyzują kluczowe znaczenie formy eseistycznej sprzyjającej erudycyjnym dygresjom oraz kompozycji książki w znacznej mierze podporządkowanej logice opisywanej przestrzeni i jej widmowym powidokom.

    The main object of the author’s reflection is the Jewish situation after the Holocaust expressed in the genre of literary essay. The thoughts of Maurice Blanchot and Bogdan Dawid Wojdowski – both prominent essayists – are taken into consideration as an example. Whereas the French writer’s reflections on the Jewish situation are part of his observations about the category of infinity, the Polish essayist’s realizations are intermingled with his own tragic fate as a Jew. Blanchot and Wojdowski wrote after the Holocaust, which is an unique turning point in history for the Jews and their diaspora as well as for the Mediterranean culture.

    The article is an attempt at interpretation of two essays, which may be called „Lager” essays. These are Écorces written by G. Didi-Huberman and Landscapes of the Metropolis of Death written by O.D. Kulka, their books are deeply related as the negation or at least as the questioning of the title of autobiographical book Anus mundi written by W. Kielar. Both authors do not describe Nazi concentration camp as „the anus of the world”. Their imagination is a post-imagination, their memory is a post-memory. In her paper Kuczyńska-Koschany considers the condition of the essay as quasi-genre after the Holocaust, after the genocide and in reference to the experience of a Lager.
