Opis:
The main aim of the presented paper is to verify the dynamics of chosen railway wagon using multi-body methods. Thus, in tests a wagon prototype with rotational rail-car body was simulated, which is going to be used for TIR vehicles trailer bodies transporting. Implemented prototype is authored by the team from Department of Applied Mechanics and Computer Science from Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Military University of Technology. For this purpose CAD model, and subsequently numerical model, of mentioned wagon was developed. Using MSC Adams software initial boundary conditions, material parameters and contact characteristics were defined. In the previous authors' paper [1], preliminary analyses of the loads acting on the railway platform were carried out, which verified chosen parameters and coefficients. The main aim of presently proposed 3D multi-body simulations of railway wagon is to investigate its motion with full load and to determine the operation limit safety. Thus, in the performed analyses the railway wagon was accelerated to the desired velocity and drove through the curved tracks with four different velocities. From the carried out simulations the wagon dynamic behaviour was investigated and obtained results including contact forces characteristics were compared from all analyses cases. Moreover, performed study shows that the MSC. Adams software is capable for analysing and simultaneously validating various complex engineering problems, such as the one investigated by the authors.

The paper presents numerical analysis of a single segment of a floating bridge built in the form of a metal cassette with a movable bottom. An internal elastic container - a pontoon filled with the air was fixed in the cassette [4]. It enables a fluent change of displacement of a single segment and of a floating ribbon assembled from segments. A multibody analysis of cooperation of the cassette in the process of filling the pontoon and opening the cassette was discussed. Numerical analysis of a single cassette presented in the paper constitutes a part of tests including stand tests. The single floating cassette has a typical shelled construction consists of a tight deck, a pneumatic chamber closed with a reinforced movable bottom and sets of fastenings together with a mechanism of bottom opening. Each cassette is equipped with a highly resistant elastic or semi-elastic cushion hereinafter called a pontoon. The movement of the bottom and the process of opening the cassette module with a pneumatic air cushion realized under an influence of pressure of the compressed air. As a result of uneven filling the individual chamber of the pontoon with the air or their uneven emptying in the process of closing the cassette, there can occur the asymmetry of displacements of the bottom resulted even in seizing of telescopic mechanisms. In the paper were considered the cases of symmetrical and asymmetrical movement of the bottom corresponding to symmetrical and unsymmetrical pull out of the telescopic mechanism modules. Dynamical analysis of movement of cooperating subsystems of the floating cassette was carried out with the use of MSC.Adams code [5, 8].

Opis:
The use of a double spring in a vehicle suspension as a combination of elastic components of characteristics which are approximate to linear ones gives a nonlinear suspension nature, which should approximately meet the criterion of car motion smoothness connected with keeping the frequency of the free vibrations of the a motorcar body in the range of l - 2 Hz, in the whole range of load changes (cargo) [see references 8, 10]. The subject of considerations is a prototypical double spring that consists of a four-leaf main spring and a two-leaf auxiliary spring and is meant for the family of motor trucks (delivery trucks) of a total mass of about 3,51. The presence of a clearance between the main spring and the auxiliary spring is the specificity of the aforementioned structural solution. In the present study, there are presented different variants of FEM numericał models ofa double spring as well as selected aspects of their applications at the stage of the research on the displacements and deformations of selected structural components. The structures ofa two-dimensional beam model, a three-dimensional shell model and a solid model of a double spring are discussed. Moreover, the study discusses different approaches in the modelling of the effect of contact between particular leaves and their influence on analysis results. Selected model tests results were compared with experimental research results.

Opis:
The article deals with experimental investigations of a prototype double multi-leaf spring, compound of a fourleaf main spring and a double-leaf supporting spring subjected to an impact test. In real conditions of car movement (e.g. curb, bump), dynamic oscillating loads, which generate dynamic stress in a car suspension affecting other elements of the car, occur. Consequently, effects of coupled oscillations having a great impact on comfort of a driver and passengers can be observed. The research was conducted in the Laboratory of Material and Construction Strength Department of Mechanics and Applied Computer Science (DMACS) in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Military University of Technology. The experiment was carried out on an original construction of a spring impact hammer developed in DMACS. Energy of the impact was set up by changing mass of a beam with beater and beam dropping height. The results were presented in the form of table summaries, time-dependent load and displacement graphs. The methodology of the research presented in the paper and a set of measuring equipment can be utilized to evaluate load and vibrations of any multi-leaf spring under impact load with given energy. The experimental results obtained from the test are supposed to be used to verify and develop FEM model describing a spring under impact load and oscillations.

Opis:
A prototype double spring, consisting of the main four-leaf spring and the auxiliary two-leaf spring, designed for a truck (van) vehicles of a gross weight ofapp. 3,5 tons, makes the subject of considerations. This structural design is characterized by a clearance between the main and the auxiliary springs. The main objective of this work is to define the double spring strain during intense vehicle braking. A spatial FE shell double spring model has been proposed and it has been used for effort and deformation research on its selected elements, at combined load (vertical, horizontal forces and braking moment). Numerical tests have been performed within the quasistatic operation loads. The numerical analysis using those loads allows evaluating the braking force impact on the double spring operation and cooperation of the main and auxiliary spring leaves. Modelling and analysis issue, including contact issue, have been sohed by means of the software package for engineering computation by MSC. Software. Results obtained from simulations allow evaluating the deformation of individual leaves of the double spring, stress concentration areas and preliminary identification of the suspension (drive axle) kinematics, particularly to define axis trajectory of the wheel. Selected numerical test results have been compared to the experimental test results.

Opis:
A double spring used in the vehicle suspension, as a combination of spring elements of characteristics close to linear ones, actually provides non-linear suspension characteristics. Due to requirements for the truck suspension being designed, the spring characteristics in the whole range of load changes should meet the vehicle motion smoothness related to keeping the frequency of own suspension vibrations within a range of l-2 Hz [8, l0]. A prototype double spring made of a four-leaf main spring and two- leaf auxiliary spring (Fig. 1) makes a subject of considerations. Characteristic features of that structural solution includes a clearance between the main spring and the auxiliary spring. This work presents the results of numerical tests for three models of MES double spring [23] that were compared with experimental test results. An evaluation of usability of individual numerical models was made for representation of a double spring characteristics, contact between individual leaves and regular stress in the main leaf (the so-called safety leaf). The smallest differences between the stress results obtained from numerical tests compared to the laboratory tests, for the beam and shell models, have been obtained only for one extreme main (longest) leaf.

Opis:
The subject of the paper are forced vibrations of the rear suspension of the biaxial vehicle fitted with the double spring spatial shell model and the viscous damper, under the force pulse input with the given transient response. The play between the master and auxiliary spring is a specific feature of the double spring design [1, 6]. Numerical tests were taken for three variants of the viscous attenuation. The attenuation coefficient values for typical dependent suspensions and their range of changes were assumed on the basis of publication [14]. The problem of modelling and analysing, including contact issues, was solved with the use of the MSC Software programme package with the special use of MSC Patran pre-processor [12]. The numerical analysis of the suspension model with the geometrical nonlinearities, viscous attenuation, and time-varying load was taken with the use of the finite element method (FEM). The selected results of the model tests in the form of the suspension relative displacements (speeds) and deformations (stresses) for the selected points of the master and auxiliary spring against time are presented in the paper. The complete model of the suspension system makes possible to examine the influence of various inputs on the interoperation and the phenomena associated with the dynamic response of such a complex system.

Opis:
Subject of the work include selected numerical models of the test stand intended for testing a prototype double multi-leaf spring of bi-linear nature. Basic design assumptions of the stand were as follows: provide laboratory tests of multi-leaf (single and double) springs designed for dependent suspensions of passenger cars of permissible weight up to 3,5 tones. The stand should allow for testing basic spring and strength characteristics in the quasi-static conditions and dynamic conditions with the impact of the force impulse or a set variable load characterized by a particular force amplitude (displacement) and frequency of its variations. Considered stand models include the tested spring, base, support and the hanger. This paper presents two types of FEM models of the spring element (beam and 3D). In the first element, components of the spring-hanger system were mapped by means of beam elements, in the second one by means of definite solid elements. The spring was loaded with a vertical force from 0 to 10000 N. A non-linear analysis of the bi-linear spring was carried out including clearance as well as the elastic analysis of the stand. The results of the numerical tests are presented in a form of tabular specifications, diagrams of displacements, and reduced stresses of selected components of the stand.

Opis:
In this study are presented the results of the simulation tests of the friction pairs occurring between the spring leaves while considering a condition of the mating surfaces and an impact of the velocity of their mutual dislocation on the values of the friction coefficients. It has been proposed a methodology in respect of a determination of the coefficients of the static and kinetic friction. Two kinds of the specimens have been prepared for the tests, which have been cut out from a spring leaf of the prototype spring – they have created the model friction pairs. The condition of the specimen surface and their selected mechanical properties have been evaluated. During the experimental tests have been considered: four sliding velocities, four variants of the surface conditions and two values of the normal load. The tests of the friction pairs have been performed at the laboratory stand for measuring the friction force. The results of the tests have been presented in a form of the time courses of friction force, graphs and tabular summaries of the friction coefficients. It has been conducted a comparative analysis of the results in order to determine an influence of the test results on the values of the determined friction coefficients. The proposed research conditions are approximate to the typical operating conditions of the road vehicles.
Zaproponowano metodykę wyznaczania współczynników statycznych i kinetycznych tarcia. Do badań przygotowano dwa rodzaje próbek, które wycięto z pióra resoru prototypowego - tworzyły one modelowe pary cierne. Oceniono stan powierzchni próbek i wybrane właściwości mechaniczne. W badaniach eksperymentalnych uwzględniono: cztery prędkości poślizgu, cztery warianty stanu powierzchni oraz dwie wartości obciążenia normalnego. Badania par ciernych wykonano na stanowisku laboratoryjnym do pomiaru siły tarcia. Wyniki badań przedstawiono w postaci przebiegów czasowych siły tarcia, wykresów i zestawień tabelarycznych współczynników tarcia.

Zaproponowano model płaski wielopiórowego resoru podwójnego, w którym zastosowano elementy belkowe i dwuwęzłowe elementy kontaktowe typu GAP. Przedstawiono także alternatywne modele powłokowe i bryłowe takiego samego resoru. Omówiono różne podejścia w modelowaniu kontaktu pomiędzy piórami zespołu głównego i pomocniczego. Otrzymane charakterystyki w ramach zrealizowanej pracy mogą być szczególnie przydatne do opracowania prostych modeli zastępczych zawieszeń wykorzystywanych do symulacji ruchu pojazdów mechanicznych.
Numerical analysis of the double spring of truck is subject of consideration. Such structure is composed of the six leafs. The spring leafs create two assemblies called: the master spring (four leafs) and the auxiliary spring composed of two plates. The spring has a bilinear stiffness characteristics. FEM models of the spring are discussed in the paper. Beam elements and GAP contact elements are used in 2D model of the multi-leaf spring. 3D FEM models of the same spring are built with the shell or solid elements. Different methods are used for the contact modelling between master and auxiliary spring assemblies. Nonlinear analysis of the spring model were performed. Vertical concentrated force were used as a load of the system. The computing results were compared with the experimental stiffness characteristics. Substitute stiffness of the spring system was determined on the base of numerical results as well. It was used in the numerical model of a complete truck to define a suspension characteristics. Chosen results of the dynamic simulation of the vehicle model moving in special conditions will be presented here. Received characteristics within the framework of realized work can be especially useful to elaboration simple models supplementary suspensions used for the simulation movement of motor vehicles.
