    Christian faith is based on the mystery of the Holy Trinity which, therefore, plays an indispensable role in the understanding of the particular truths of faith. This statement refers also to the Eucharist. The New Testament, especially the Gospel of John, conveys an explicit depiction of the links between the Holy Trinity and the Eucharist. The New Testament tradition has found its continuation in theology, and it has been predominantly seen in the Eucharistic Prayers. This paper highlights certain Trinitarian aspects of the mystery of the Eucharist, in order to point out further possibilities, both for deepening the understanding of this mystery and for more integral incorporation of it into faith and Christian experience.

    Although the relation between the mystery of the Holy Trinity and the sacrament of marriage was always treated as a minor issue, it has been present in the theology for ages. It is usually situated in the context of the searching for the “traces” of the Holy Trinity in the creation. The crucial moment in the theological approach to the relation between the mystery of the Holy Trinity and marriage was the reversal of the problem in question: marriage is not only a trace of the Holy Trinity in the world – as it is in classical theology – but rather it is expected to become an active reflection of the Trinity in the relations between husband and wife, in their mutual attitudes and it is supposed to express itself in the mission undertaken and fulfilled by husband and wife especially in their uniting and simultaneously fertile love. The Holy Trinity, especially as a mystery of the everlasting and rejoicing love, for a married couple should serve as a point of reference to understand their marital identity and to shape their mutual relations which express this identity. Trinitarian and Christological theology provide a rich material for a deepened understanding and recognition of the teaching of the former Popes who consistently emphasize the need of situating the fundamental questions regarding vocation, nature and mission of marriage in direct reference to the mystery of the Holy Trinity and the mystery of Jesus Christ. Theological perspectives unambiguously abiding by the conclusions of the theology of creation and natural law open an exceptionally broad view on marriage being the fundamental human and Christian reality, and at the same time a great mystery which has its origin in the highest mystery of the God in three Persons and which is fully revealed in Jesus Christ, the incarnated Son of God who died on the cross in kenotic love. Therefore it is primarily a perspective of personalism deeply rooted and directed Christologically. The mutual self-giving of husband and wife in the sacrament of marriage is a remarkable testimony given to Christ, since fidelity expressed in marital attitude reflects radicalism and greatness of love proved once and for all on the Christ’s cross. The fertility of physical union of man and wife reflects not only the immeasurable fertility of Christ’s death for mankind, but also the infinite fertility of Trinitarian communion which pours out on every created reality and becomes its original point of reference.

    The Sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist constitute the centre of the Church liturgy, since they are a solemn celebration of faith and they point at those issues which constitute the key benchmark for life of all the believers. It is most clearly visible in the fact that from the very beginnings of the Church the rites of baptism and Eucharist constitute the first and most significant testimony of faith in the Holy Trinity and they are the profession of this faith. This general observation outlines the perspective of this study which shows in what way, in the liturgy, a certain evolution of faith in the Holy Trinity took place, and how this faith has been consolidated in the present day liturgy. Therefore this study is an attempt to review the Trinitarian formulas which may be found in eastern and western liturgies, in order to show in what way they express the Trinitarian contents. In reference to western liturgies we focus mainly on the Roman and Gallican liturgies which clearly interacted throughout history, and the present Roman liturgy is the outcome of this interaction. The side effect of the development of the Trinitarian formulas and the Trinitarian piety is the liturgical holiday of the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity which despite certain initial difficulties has found its place in the Church liturgy. The analyses carried out show, in the first place, that the Church liturgy is an important testimony of the Trinitarian faith and the example of how to experience it within the soteriological framework. Better understanding of the liturgical proposition might contribute to the revival of the Trinitarian faith and to the eliciting of its existential meaning.
    Sakramenty chrztu i Eucharystii stanowią centrum liturgii Kościoła, gdyż są uroczystą celebracją tajemnicy wiary oraz wskazują na te treści, które stanowią kluczowy punkt odniesienia dla życia wszystkich wierzących. Fakt ten widać przede wszystkim w tym, że od samego początku istnienia Kościoła obrzędy chrztu i Eucharystii stanowią pierwsze i najważniejsze świadectwo wiary w Trójcę Świętą oraz są wyznaniem tej wiary. Ta ogólna obserwacja wyznacza perspektywę niniejszego studium, w którym pokazujemy, w jaki sposób w liturgii następowała pewna ewolucja wiary w Trójcę Świętą i jak doszło do utrwalenia tej wiary w obecnej liturgii. W niniejszym studium dokonujemy więc przeglądu formuł trynitarnych, które można znaleźć w liturgiach wschodnich i zachodnich, aby pokazać, w jaki sposób wyrażają się w nich treści trynitarne. W odniesieniu do liturgii zachodnich zwracamy szczególną uwagę na liturgię rzymską i liturgię gallikańską, które wyraźnie oddziaływały na siebie w dziejach, a obecna liturgia rzymska jest rezultatem tego oddziaływania. Pośrednim efektem rozwoju formuł trynitarnych oraz pobożności o charakterze trynitarnym jest także liturgiczne święto Trójcy Przenajświętszej, które mimo pewnych początkowych trudności zajęło na trwałe miejsce w liturgii Kościoła. Przeprowadzone analizy pokazują przede wszystkim, że liturgia Kościoła jest ważnym świadectwem wiary trynitarnej oraz szkołą jej przeżywania w kluczu soteriologicznym. Lepsze odczytanie propozycji liturgicznej mogłoby przyczynić się do ożywienia wiary trynitarnej i wydobycia jej znaczenia egzystencjalnego.

    Theology has recently witnessed a renewed interest in the primary mystery of Christianity, namely the mystery of the Holy Trinity. The effects of theological reflection in this matter are becoming more and more visible. More prominent position of Christology inevitably results in a profound reflection over the origins of Jesus Christ phenomenon framed by the mystery of the Trinity as well as over his lasting connection with this mystery (pre-existence). Jesus Christ is described to be in a strong relation with both the Father and the Holy Spirit. Therefore, a plenty of works and suggested perspectives may be found in Trinitarian theology, which evidently influence new catechisms and religion textbooks. This study points out to certain issues which seem to arouse a greatest interest in Trinitarian theology. First, it has to be said, that the most emphasised matter is self-communication of God, which results in the statement that the mystery of the Holy Trinity is concealed from Man and leads to the enlightenment of His life. The reflection upon the mystery of Jesus Christ usually stresses all the themes where He appears as the Son of the Father. Particularly significant in this respect is the so called “logion of John” (Matthew 11:25–27). In the case of the Holy Spirit the major issue is His connection not only with the reality of freedom in God and in Man, but also with the mystery of the communion and the love of God. Because of the significant role of language in the reflection over the Holy Trinity there are some voices suggesting wider application of the biblical language. Finally, it has to be stressed that a prayer, as the way to loving cognition of God, is a commonly discussed topic.
    W ostatnim okresie można zauważyć w teologii odnowione zainteresowanie pierwszą tajemnicą wiary chrześcijańskiej, którą jest tajemnica Trójcy Świętej. Efekty refleksji teologicznej w tej dziedzinie są coraz bardziej widoczne. Coraz większy nacisk kładziony na chrystologię nieuchronnie pociąga za sobą pogłębioną refleksję o genezie wydarzenia Jezusa Chrystusa w ramach tajemnicy trynitarnej i o jego stałym związku z tą tajemnicą (preegzystencja). Jezus Chrystus jest widziany w bardzo mocnym związku z Ojcem oraz z Duchem Świętym. Odnotowuje się więc w teologii trynitarnej duży rozkwit dzieł i proponowanych ujęć, wyraźnie wpływający na nowe katechizmy i podręczniki religii. W niniejszym opracowaniu zostają wskazane niektóre zagadnienia, które zwracają w teologii trynitarnej szczególną uwagę. Na pierwszym miejscu trzeba podkreślić, że zagadnieniem mocno akcentowanym jest samoudzielanie się Boga, którego rezultatem jest podkreślenie, ze tajemnica Trójcy jest tajemnicą dla człowieka, prowadzącą do oświecenia jego życia. Wychodząc od tajemnicy Jezusa Chrystusa, podkreśla się wszystkie te wątki, w których jawi się On jako Syn Ojca. Szczególnego znaczenia nabrał w tym względzie tak zwany „logion Janowy” (Mt 11, 25–27). W odniesieniu do Ducha Świętego podkreśla się Jego związek z rzeczywistością wolności w Bogu i w człowieku, a tym samym także z tajemnicą boskiej komunii i miłości. Niebagatelną rolę odgrywają w refleksji nad Trójcą Świętą kwestie dotyczące języka, zwłaszcza postuluje się szersze uwzględnienie języka biblijnego. W końcu trzeba pokreślić, że wiele uwagi poświęca się modlitwie jako drodze do miłującego poznania Boga.
