- One the basis of analysis of the deposit forming the bottom of the Czyżówka river valley near Chrapanów on Sandomierz upland the authoress calls attention to significance of human activity in the transforming of the relief of the valley bottom. Above the fossil soil dated in the bottom at 11 000 380 B.P. and in the top at 5140±120 B.P. the authoress found fragments of pottery from the late Middle Ages. It follows, that the over six-meters thick, sereis of the decalcified loessy silts covering the pottery has been accumulated for the last ca 500 years. These data from the Czyżówka valley as to the accumulation rate of valley deposits in modern times considerably exceeds the corresponding values eported for the nearby Middle Vistula river valley or for the Subcarpathian river valles. The authoress discusses the effects of man’s economic interference in environment on the vertical accretion of the alluvia and attempts to find the reasons for this peculiar intensity of that process.
