    Artykuł ma na celu przegląd odbywających się w XXI wieku letnich igrzysk olimpijskich z perspektywy ich upolitycznienia. W badaniu uwzględniono igrzyska olimpijskie w Atenach w 2004 roku, w Pekinie w 2008 roku, w Londynie w 2012 roku oraz w Rio de Janeiro w 2016 roku. Za najbardziej upolitycznione uznano igrzyska w Pekinie, aczkolwiek w trakcie każdej z tych imprez sportowych można było dostrzec polityczne elementy. W artykule podjęto próbę odpowiedzi na pytanie badawcze dotyczące tego, czy po zakończeniu zimnej wojny w dalszym ciągu sport w dalszym ciągu odgrywa istotną rolę polityczną.
    The aim of the article is to assess the 21st Century Olympic Summer Games from the perspective of their interconnection with politics. The research included Olymics in Athens in 2004, Beijing in 2008, London in 2012 and Rio de Janeiro in 2016. The Games in Beijing have been assessed the most politicized within the analysed period, however each of the sports events have somehow collided with politics. The main research question concerned was whether after the end of the Cold War sport has remained its former political role in international relations.

    The aim of this article is to present one of the main dimensions of sports being used for political reasons – the Olympic Game s Medal Table. In the Cold War Era two geopolitical groups of states searched for ways of confrontation that would allow them to prove their supremacy, but they preferred to avoid military solutions. Sport seemed to be a good solution. Rivalry in the Olympic Games Medal Table was one of the most important dime nsions of this clash, as it was a good tool of presenting overall power of a state. At first, the course of joining the world's sport and Olympic Movement by the Soviet Union was presented, as before WWII this country preferred to stand apart due to ideological reasons. Finally its leaders perceived political advantages of participating in the world’s sport and the USSR eventually debuted in the Olympic Games in 1952 in Helsinki. That moment inaugurated rivalry in the Olympic Games medal table between the East and West, which lasted till the end of the Cold War. The main thesis of the article is that the sport rivalry can be used as an important dimension of political confrontation. In the aspect of the Olympic Games medal table, the thesis suggests that communist states are privileged to achieve better results due to their political and economic systems.

    China is a country that has been using sport in order to reach political goals for many years. Lately such political exploitation of sport is directed at shaping the desirable international image of this country. This is done most of all through hosting sports events, but also through sports victories. The last aspect is the subject of this research. The aim of the article is therefore to investigate the issue of utilization of performance in international sport in order to enhance international image of a China. The research presented in the article is a case study concerning sport as a tool of nation-branding. Its main objective is to analyse motivation of China’s decision-makers to use sports performance in order to enhance the country’s international perception, and to observe how this goals is executed. The main hypothesis to be tested states that China perceives sports performance as an important tool of enhancing its international image.

    The aim of the article is to analyze the change of the Russian Federation’s international image in the light of two significant events: the Olympic Winter Games in 2014 in Sochi and the annexation of Crimea. According to the first hypothesis, one of the main aims for hosting the Olympic Games was to improve the international prestige of Russia. Shortly after the Olympics Russia increased its activity in Eastern Ukraine, which resulted in the annexation of the Crimean Peninsula. Therefore the article is also aimed to investigate whether by annexing Crimea Russia squandered the possible positive effects of hosting the Olympics in terms of its international image.

    The aim of the article is to analyze the boycott of the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow and its evaluation, concerning its causes and motivation of policy-makers. An attempt to verify the following hypotheses was made: lack of understanding of the way the Olympic movement functioned by the American administration was one of the reason for limited success of the boycott; the USSR did not expect that intervention in Afghanistan could lead to a boycott of the Olympics.
    Celem artykułu jest analiza bojkotu igrzysk olimpijskich w Moskwie w 1980 r. oraz jego ocena, z uwzględnieniem jego przyczyn oraz motywacji przywódców zaangażowanych państw. Podjęto próbę weryfikacji hipotezy dotyczącej braku zrozumienia dla funkcjonowania ruchu olimpijskiego przez administrację amerykańską, co stało się przyczyną niepełnego sukcesu bojkotu, oraz zakładającej, iż w Związku Radzieckim nie przewidywano bojkotu igrzysk w Moskwie jako następstwa interwencji w A fganistanie.
