Opis:
X-ray photoemission spectra the core-levels as well as the X-ray photoemission spectra and ultraviolet photoemission spectra from the valence bands of the (Tl$\text{}_{0.6}$Pb$\text{}_{0.5}$)(Sr$\text{}_{0.9}$Ba$\text{}_{0.1}$) Ca$\text{}_{2}$Cu$\text{}_{3}$O$\text{}_{y}$ and (Bi$\text{}_{1.75}$Pb$\text{}_{0.35}$)Sr$\text{}_{1.9}$Ca$\text{}_{2.05}$Cu$\text{}_{3.05}$O$\text{}_{y}$ superconductors were measured and analyzed. Special attention was paid to the valence band X-ray photoemission spectra and ultraviolet photoemission spectra, the Cu 2p core-level X-ray photoemission spectra and the Cu L$\text{}_{2,3}$-M$\text{}_{4,5}$M$\text{}_{4,5}$ and O K-L$\text{}_{2,3}$L$\text{}_{2,3}$ Auger spectra. Both Cu 2p$\text{}_{3}\text{}_{/}\text{}_{2}$ and Cu 2p$\text{}_{1}\text{}_{/}\text{}_{2}$ core-level lines consisted of two spin-orbit split main lines accompanied with the two satellite lines. The charge transfer energy Δ from the oxygen ligand to the copper 3d$\text{}^{9}$ states and the hopping integral t were estimated from the energy separation between the main line and the satellite line taking advantage of the local cluster model calculations and their extension to high-temperature superconductors. The Coulomb correlation on-site energy U$\text{}_{dd}$ of two electrons in the same copper orbital and U$\text{}_{pp}$ of two electrons in the oxygen orbital as well as the correlation energy U$\text{}_{cd}$ of the 2p core hole - 3d electron interaction have been estimated from the Auger electron spectra and the valence band spectra. They are: U$\text{}_{dd}$=6.0±0.5eV, of U$\text{}_{pp}$≅ 10±1eV and of U$\text{}_{cd}$≅ 8.0±0.5eV nearly the same for both the Tl- and Bi-compounds. We conclude that these compounds are the charge transfer strongly-correlated metals.

The paper presents experimental results for the intermetallic compound Y$\text{}_{9}$Co$\text{}_{7}$ which is the first very weak itinerant ferromagnetic superconductor. The measurements of electrical resistivity, susceptibility, magnetization, specific heat, nuclear magnetic resonance, and other properties show the magnetic transition at T$\text{}_{C}$≈ 4.5 K and the onset of superconductivity at about T$\text{}_{S}$≈ 2.5 K, revealing the coexistence state within a temperature interval below T$\text{}_{S}$. A few of the results are shortly reviewed and discussed. We focus attention on our recent ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy and their comparison with our band structure calculations. Interpretations are considered which take into account the characteristic structure of the compound and different possible types of magnetic ordering.

Opis:
1 at.% 119Sn doped La0.67Ca0.33MnO3 compound was studied by Mössbauer spectroscopy, magnetization, AC susceptibility and resistivity measurements. Huge separation (66 K) of the transition temperatures from the ferromagnetic (FM) to paramagnetic (PM) state (TC) and from metallic to insulating state (TM-I) clearly shows that transition from FM metallic to PM insulator phase goes via FM insulator phase. The Mn lattice dynamics was studied by the relative changes of Lamb-Mössbauer factor f as a function of temperature. In the Debye approximation from the calculated ln(f/f0) values of the characteristic Debye temperatures (čD) were estimated for the FM (368(10) K) and PM (391(6) K) phases. No anomaly of -ln(f/f0) at TM-I and its rather spurious increase around TC was found. The 119Sn isotope as a local diamagnetic probe samples the transferred hyperfine field (Bhf) from its neighbour Mn magnetic moments and witnesses the dynamics of the Mn moments. Theoretical curve based on the molecular field theory was fitted to the experimental values of Bm hf ax and the value of the ordering temperature (TC * H 280 K) of Mn moments inside the large FM domains was estimated. It is much higher than the TC (172 K) obtained from magnetization measurement. The coexistence of FM and PM phases, which is evident from the shape of our 119Sn Mössbauer spectra, was confirmed for temperatures T e 150 K and indicates the inhomogeneous character of the magnetic transition.

Opis:
The bulk ($Tl_{0.5}Pb_{0.5})Sr_2(Ca_{1 - x}Gd_{x})Cu_2O_{z}$ superconductors with x = 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 have unique and very interesting magnetic and electrical properties. In this paper we focused our attention on the superconductor with gadolinium content x = 0.2. We measured the magnetic field dependences of the transport critical currents, the microwave absorption as well as the magnetization for different temperatures. The critical temperature of this sample is $T_c$ = 105.3 ± 0.2 K and the transition width Δ $T_{90% - 10%}$ = 3.6 ± 0.2 K. The critical current of this superconductor is $J_c$ = 1 820 ± 10 A/$cm^2$ at 77 K. The data were analyzed within the frame of the Bean and Kim models as well as the percolation model.

Opis:
We present theoretical band structure calculations and ultraviolet electron photoemission spectroscopy of a topological insulator $Bi_{1.96}Mg_{0.04}Se_3$. Our calculations were based on the first-principles density functional theory with general gradient approximation using Wien2k package with the spin-orbit interaction included by a second-variation method. The R3̅m crystal structure was optimized. In consequence, 4% decrease of volume and 3% decrease of ratio c/a was obtained. This modified structure was multiplied three times in a and b direction in order to place proper amount of Mg. Final crystal structure P3m1 with 135 atoms was used for the calculations. As a result metallic band structure was obtained with conduction band extended from -5.6 eV up to 0.16 eV. It composes mostly from Se p states. Comparison of total DOS with ultraviolet photoemission spectrum shows similar features.

The temperature and magnetic field dependences of a.c. resistance of c-axis oriented (Tl$\text{}_{0.5}$Pb$\text{}_{0.5}$)(Sr$\text{}_{0.8}$Ba$\text{}_{0.2}$)$\text{}_{2}$Ca $\text{}_{2}$Cu$\text{}_{3}$O$\text{}_{x}$ and (Tl$\text{}_{0.6}$Pb$\text{}_{0.24}$Bi$\text{}_{0.16}$)(Sr$\text{}_{0.9}$Ba$\text{}_{0.1}$)$\text{}_{2}$Ca$\text{}_{2}$Cu$\text{}_{3}$ O$\text{}_{x}$ thin films as well as of (Tl$\text{}_{0.5}$Pb$\text{}_{0.5}$)(Sr$\text{}_{0.8}$Ba$\text{}_{0.2}$)$\text{}_{2}$Ca$\text{}_{ }$2Cu$\text{}_{3}$O$\text{}_{x}$ bulk sample from 77 K to room temperature and in magnetic fields from zero to 3000 Oe were measured and analyzed. The magnetic field and temperature dependence of the resistive superconducting transition and irreversibility field were discussed both in the flux-creep model and in the superconducting liquid vortex state model. The temperature width of resistive transition was explained taking advantage of the Ambegaokar and Halperin model of the resistance of superconducting Josephson weak links and barrier of vortex motion presented by Tinkham. The irreversibility field was described by an exponential formula.

Opis:
The structural, magnetic, and electrical transport properties of Sn-doped manganite La$\text{}_{0.67}$Ca$\text{}_{0.33}$Mn$\text{}_{1-x}$ Sn$\text{}_{x}$O$\text{}_{3-δ}$ (x=0, 0.01, 0.03, andδ≈0.06) compounds were studied using X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, AC susceptometer and vibrating sample magnetometer measurements as well as four-probe resistance measurements. The specific heat was measured by the heat-pulse method. The Curie temperature T$\text{}_{C}$ and the metal-insulator transition temperature T$\text{}_{M-I}$ decreased nonlinearly with increasing Sn content. The T$\text{}_{C}$ and T$\text{}_{M-I}$ values, for the x=0, 0.01, and 0.03 compounds were separated by 18.2 K, 66.3 K, and 10 K, respectively. The resistivity above T$\text{}_{C}$ for all of these compounds followed the Mott variable-range-hopping model. This allowed the estimation of the localization lengths of 2.2Å (x = 0), 1.33Å (x=0.01) and 1.26Å (x=0.03). The x=0 and x=0.01 compounds exhibited anomalies of R(T) at corresponding T$\text{}_{C}$ and allowed the separation of the magnitude of the purely magnetic contribution to the resistance which for x=0 was≈5 .7Ω and for x=0.01,≈22 .4Ω. The specific heat of the Sn-free sample exhibited a sharp peak at T$\text{}_{C}$. With increasing Sn content the peak at T$\text{}_{C}$ broadened and the area under the peak decreased. For x= 0.03 the peak was hardly detectable. Our results on La$\text{}_{0.67}$Ca$\text{}_{0.33}$ Mn$\text{}_{1-x}$Sn$\text{}_{x}$O$\text{}_{3}$ reveal that a small substitution of Sn$\text{}^{4+}$ for Mn$\text{}^{4+}$ suppresses double exchange interactions and strongly affects the magnetic, thermal, and transport properties of the parent compound.

The c-axis orientation $YBa_2Cu_3O_δ$ thin film was prepared directly on MgO substrate by the pulse laser deposition. The thickness of the film was 170 nm. The superconducting critical temperature was $T_{c50%}$=89 K and the width of superconducting transition was Δ T= 1.6 K. Temperature dependence of the critical current of the film was obtained from the temperature dependences of the imaginary part of the AC susceptibility using the Bean model. The critical current density was $J_{c}$=1.2×$10^7$ A/$cm^{2}$ at 77 K in the self field. The critical exponents were calculated for several values of the DC applied magnetic field using the temperature dependences of magnetoresistivity. The thermal fluctuations in vicinity of the critical temperature were analysed.

The magnetization and the AC susceptibility vs. the temperature as well as the applied magnetic field of the thin film $(Tl_{2-x}Re_{x})Ba_{2}CaCu_{2}O_{y}$ with x=0 and 0.15 on R-plane sapphire substrate with $CeO_{2}$ buffer layer were measured and analyzed. XRD measurements show c-axis as well as a-b plane oriented Tl-1212 and superconducting pure phase. The zero critical temperature of the Tl-Re sample is 99.9 K and is practically the same as the critical temperature of the rhenium free sample: 99.5 K. The Tl-Re superconductor exhibits two peaks of the absorption part of AC susceptibility in the vicinity of the critical temperature in contrary to the rhenium free sample. The first peak placed in higher temperature is related to intragranular properties while the second peak is connected with the intergranular one. The critical current densities versus temperature were calculated from AC susceptibility as well as from the magnetization loops measurements using the Bean's critical state model. The Tl-Re film exhibits the higher critical current in comparison to the rhenium free thallium based film.

Opis:
The lower and upper critical fields, as well as the specific heat were measured as a function of temperature for good quality DyBa$\text{}_{2}$Cu$\text{}_{3}$O$\text{}_{7}$ high-temperature superconductor in the vicinity of superconducting transition temperature T$\text{}_{c}$ = 91.2 K. The number of superconducting and normal state electronic quantities were determined basing on the Ginzburg-Landau-Abrikosov-Gorkov theory. It is argued that on the basis of this BCS-like theory one can describe the superconducting properties and, in combination with some information on the electronic structure, also the magnetic properties of high-temperature superconductors.
