- Opis:
- Introduction. Chronic neurological diseases include Parkinson's disease – PD, multiple sclerosis – MS and stroke – S. In addition to pharmacology and other modern methods, rehabilitation plays a key role in the treatment of patients with these diseases. Aim. The aim was to examine the participation of people with PD, MS and S in physiotherapy. It was decided to examine how many people used it, how they assessed its effectiveness, and whether sex, age, duration of the disease and functional status were related to undergoing rehabilitation by these people and assessing its effectiveness. Material and methods. 192 people were examined: 116 women (60.42%) and 76 men (39.58%). People diagnosed with one of three diseases were enrolled in the study: PD (n = 61; 31.77%), MS (n = 81; 42.19%), S (n = 50; 26.04%). The research tool was a questionnaire containing questions about sex, age and duration of the neurological disease. The subjects' fitness in everyday activities was tested using the Katz scale. The respondents were also asked about the type of therapy and whether they felt better after physiotherapy. Results. Among the respondents, 127 people (66.15%) participated in rehabilitation, while 65 people (33.85%) did not. Men benefited more from rehabilitation than women: p = 0.0159. People with MS – in a smaller percentage participated in rehabilitation than with PD and S. The duration of the disease was associated with participation in rehabilitation only in the patients with MS. Comparisons for improvement after rehabilitation showed its effectiveness in each case (p < 0.0000). Conclusions. Participation in neurological rehabilitation is not satisfactory. Men participate in it more than women. Age and functional status are unrelated to undergoing rehabilitation. People with MS less often than PD and S participate in rehabilitation – the duration of the disease is important. In the opinion of the respondents rehabilitation is effective in improving health.
