    The article discusses one the methods facilitating an establishment or disintegration of the civil society. The concept of the civil society is based on the assumption that all people are equal. The establishment of so understood civil society is facilitated by the granfalloon technique, that is referring to the group pride. However, the society may be also disrupted by means of the granfalloon technique, which takes place when the granfalloon is based on an ethnocentric idea. It is the doublespeak that is invaluable in establish¬ment of granfalloons disintegrating the civil society. The characteristics of this propaganda technique has been also discussed in this article.

    Opis:
    The subject matter of the paper is the structure of legal awareness of Poles. Speaking more precisely, it deals with a sense of entitlement and duties in the situation of a total shortage of consumer goods on the market. The author focuses on the service-recipiant versus service-recipient relation. The data which the author’s studies have gathered along with everyday observations point out that the decisive majority of people, in the case when the service provider fails to fulfil his duties, in no way demand that their entitlements be satisfied. This happens even then when these entitlements are warranted by the existing legal system. One may call such a phenomenon retardation of legal awareness within the sphere of life in question. The author has analyzed some chosen factors which could contribute to this state of affairs, such as the system of law binding in Poland, and the psycho-social situation in the society organized along the totalitarian principles. The social issue in question concerns the period before 1989, that is the period prior to the democratic changes. It is interesting to see this problem now, when four years have passed since the socio-political breakthrough.

    Tezą tekstu jest, że życie i wychowanie w totalitarnym społeczeństwie (PRL) nie mogło pozostać bez wpływu na mentalność dużej przynamniej części społeczeństwa. Wielu autorów, zarówno socjologów jak językoznawców i psychologów podkreślało w swoich pracach ten aspekt rzeczywistości stawiając tezę, że funkcjonowanie w świecie wykreowanym przez totalitarny język determinuje i deformuje postrzeganie rzeczywistości i kategorii opisu świata społecznego.
    The thesis of the text is, that growing up and surviving in totalitarian society (People’s Republic of Poland - PRL) had a profound effect on the mentality of Poles. Many authors – sociologists, linguists, and psychologists alike – have noted that living in a world created by totalitarian language determines and deforms the perception of reality, along with the categories in which the social world is perceived and described. This is precisely what I will argue in this paper.

    This paper discusses the results of two empirical research projects on consumer micro-loans in Poland recently conducted at the Institute of Applied Social Sciences (University of Warsaw) and the Institute of Justice. The text summarizes the main findings of both studies and focuses on their main common thread: the various dimensions of social exclusion among average consumers who enter the loan market. The text argues that individuals who take consumer loans usually experience financial exclusion, which in turn prevents them from obtaining the cheaper credit available from banks. At the same time, by entering the loan market individuals de facto exclude themselves from effective legal protection (from courts and administrative bodies), which should be provided as an element of the rule of law in a democratic state. Building on these premises, the concept of “cascade exclusion” is proposed as an analytical framework for theses on interrelated dimensions of exclusion.
