Galicia in the period of Napoleon - Opis:
- The events of 1809, in so-called East Galicia, are still a gap in historiography. Piotr Strzyżewski's expedition belongs to little known episodes. He intended to overcome and join the largest territories under Austrian partition to the liberated lands. The effects of his efforts were much more modest, for they depended on Napoleon I's decision and negotiations with Emperor Franciszek I. It is worth emphasising the scope of Strzyżewski's actions and the attitude of Polish society. It was manifested, among other things, by the large number of volunteers who conscripted to the Polish army. It should also be stressed that the military successes of Poles were considerable.
