- Availability of the category of animal traits: the manner of revealing contexts of knowledge acquisitionThe paper concerns the contexts in witch children acquire knowledge. It's main aim was to verify the hypothesis, that the availability of context related to cultural transmission is easier of access, compared to the knowledge that preschool children derive from their own direct observation of the world. The comparison was performed on the example of asset of data about animals (their appearance or lifestyles, or symbolic connotations). The study was conducted as an experiment, requiring children to solve a problem that involved creative thinking. Children were asked to create an image and give a description of an imaginary animal that combined features of two animals known to the child, selected for similarities in their appearance or for 'character traits' associated with them. The participants were twenty children in two age groups (4 to 5 and 6 to 7 years old). Qualitative analysis was also applied to the strategies of constructing descriptions of imaginary animals.
