    Opis:
    The Double Penetration Method (DPM) method of measuring ESPD (Electrosensitive Protective Device) response time was presented by Dzwiarek (1997). Calibrating the measuring equipment is a crucial stage of the procedure. Experimental verification of theoretical predictions is also crucial. For calibration purposes, a device simulating real ESPD operation thus enabling a correct setting of the response time was designed (Dźwiarek, 1997). Theoretical analysis has shown that measuring ESPD response time with the DPM is subject to localisation errors made in the localisation of the detection zone border, rod position measurement errors made during highspeed penetration, and time delay measurement errors. The values of all those components of the total error have been determined experimentally using the calibrating device. Measurements have been taken under conditions as close to real ones as possible proving that the total measurement error is really enclosed within the assumed limits.

    Opis:
    In preventing the accidents due to improper operation of the control systems the periodical inspection of their functioning is of crucial importance. Therefore, the control system designer should specify how often the system should undergo the periodical inspection. The paper presents some recommendations for the determination of periodical inspection frequency of safety related control systems in machinery. The recommendations are based on simple and easy to use mathematical models which have been developed by adaptation and simplification of models used for the determination of maintenance policies of complex systems. Practical implementation of the proposed recommendation is illustrated on some actual case studies.

    Opis:
    In the process of testing an electrosensitive protective system, determining its response time is of crucial importance. A unique double penetration method of measuring electrosensitive protective device (ESPD) response time has been worked out in the Central Institute for Labour Protection. In the first step, low speed penetration enables the detection zone border to be localised. In the second step of measurement, the probe is injected at a high speed and response time is measured. Three different ways have been taken for validation of the method: theoretical analysis, calibration of the stand, and taking a series of measurements. The double penetration method enables ESPD response time measurement results to be obtained, the accuracy, repeatability, and reproducibility of which is satisfactory enough to be assessed objectively.

    Technika RTLS UWB znajduje coraz szersze zastosowanie w inteligentnych systemach wytwórczych do celów usprawnienia organizacji pracy oraz poprawy jakości. Przeprowadzone analizy wykazały, że systemy te mogą być także wykorzystane do redukcji ryzyka związanego z obsługą maszyn. Analizy wypadków zaistniałych w latach 2012 i 2013 potwierdziły, że technika lokalizacji nie będzie skuteczna w ochronie części ciała człowieka, ale może być bardzo przydatna w przypadku konieczności przebywania całym ciałem w strefie zagrożenia.
    The RTLS UWB approach has become more and more commonly applied in intelligent manufacturing systems in order to improve organization of work and product quality. The results obtained from the analyses conducted proved that those systems are also applicable to reduction of the risk posed by machine operation. Upon analysis of the accidents happened in the years 2012 and 2013 one can state that the localisation technique cannot be effective in protecting particular parts of human body, it may be useful where the need appears for the whole body to be present at the dangerous zone.     Opis:
    The scope of this study covers events resulting from improper functioning of machine control systems. An accident model providing a basis for formulating a checklist for accident analysis has been developed. Data about 700 accidents were collected. An analysis has proved that in the group of accidents caused by improper functioning of machine control systems, serious accidents happened much more frequently as compared to the group of accidents with no relation to the control system. The reasons for the majority of incidents caused by improper performance of safety functions consist in the errors made by designers. In view of that, incorrect behaviour of a worker should be treated as a normal event instead of a deviation causing an accident.
