    Opis:
    This article aims to describe the possible variants of the course of events after Brexit, from a Scottish perspective. Three dimensions are taken into the account: future model of UK–EU relations, symmetry of Brexit inside the UK and possibility of the second independence referendum in the near future (less than five years). These dimension have allowed to distinguish three main variants of further development, that are in short named by the author as: passive variant, Scottish exception and another referendum. It seems at this point that the Scottish Government is bound to carry out the second referendum, especially if the British government chooses a variant of the so-called hard Brexit. The European argument, which is so often used by Sturgeon in political debate does not necessarily lead to an increase in support for the independence, especially when eventual membership in the European Union of an independent Scotland is burdened with so many question marks.

    Scottish Independence Referendum will take place on 18 September 2014. There would be only one question during referendum: “Should Scotland be an independent country? The reform of devolution established by Scotland Act 2012 is sometimes overlooked by observers as too little too late. The most principal issues of the referendum will be: economy, oil resources, currency, defense and European Union. Main doubt around referendum is whether Scotland would be better economically after Independence. Scotland’s position within the EU is likely to be shaped more by any agreements between the parties than by pre-existing principles of EU law. Doubts about Scottish membership in the EU have to be viewed in the context of the referendum on the UK’s membership in the European Union, that will take place if the Conservative Party wins the 2015. British political class have always behaved differently towards the European integration than continental elites The importance of the European dimension of the Scottish Independence Referendum was proved by Panelbase poll in May 2013.

    The article describes and explains the phenomenon of the political myth of Margaret Thatcher – her anti–Scottish attitude and policies and its impact on the process of decomposition of the United Kingdom. The author indicates that the view of Margaret Thatcher’s dominance in Scotland is simplified, stripped of complexity, ignoring significant information conflicting with the thesis, but that also plays an important role in current politics, legitimizing secessionist demands and strengthening the identity of the Scottish community. In the contemporary Scottish debate with its unequivocal defence policy of Thatcher is outside of the discourse, proving its sanctity status. Thatcher could see this special Scottish dimension within the United Kingdom, but treated it rather as a delay in the reforms needed in the country. There are many counterarguments to the validity of the Thatcher myth. Firstly, many negative processes that took place in the 80s were not initiated by Thatcher, only accelerated. Secondly, the Tory decline in popularity in the north began before the leadership of Thatcher and has lasted long after her dismissal. The Conservative Party was permanently seen in Scotland as openly English. Thirdly, there is a lot of accuracy in the opinion that the real division is not between Scotland and England, only between southern England and the rest of the country. Widespread opinion that Thatcher was hostile to Scotland is to a large extent untruthful. She has never retreated radically from any of the Scottish privileges, such as the Barnett formula or the Scottish Development Agency.

    This article aims at presenting the activity of Scotland as a sub-state entity with reference to the field of its foreign policy. Its main assumption is that the concept of foreign policy has significantly changed in recent decades. The term most often used to describe this phenomenon is “paradiplomacy” understood as the involvement of non/state actors in autonomous diplomatic practices. The article will argue that Scotland’s activity within the international arena allows for it being considered as paradiplomatic, even protodiplomatic. It will be further demonstrated that the most important target of Scotland’s paradiplomatic activity in Asia is China. The motivations of the Scottish paradiplomacy towards Asian countries can be seen on the regional, state and external levels. The article concludes that the relations between Scotland and the United Kingdom as regards foreign policy can be studied as bridging the complementary and discretion models.  
    (PARA)DYPLOMACJA SZKOCJI WOBEC KRAJÓW AZJATYCKICH Przedmiotem niniejszego artykułu jest opis aktywności Szkocji, jako podmiotubez statusu państwa, w obszarze polityki zagranicznej. Podstawowym założeniem niniejszegoartykułu jest stwierdzenie, że polityka zagraniczna uległa istotnym zmianomw ostatnich dekadach. Pojęciem, którego używa sie najczęściej do opisu tego zjawiskajest paradyplomacja, rozumiana jako zaangażowanie podmiotów niepaństwowych w autonomicznedziałania dyplomatyczne.W artykule stwierdzono, że aktywność Szkocji na arenie międzynarodowej pozwalana określenie jej mianem paradyplomacji, a nawet protodyplomacji. Wskazuje się, że najważniejszym celem paradyplomatycznej aktywności Szkocji w Azji są Chiny. Motywacjetych działań widoczne są na poziomie regionalnym, państwowym oraz zewnętrznym.Konkluzją artykułu jest także stwierdzenie, że wzajemne relacje między Szkocjąi Zjednoczonym Królestwem w prowadzeniu polityki zagranicznej są formą pośredniąmiędzy modelem swobody i uzupełniania się.

    Artykuł ma na celu analizę procesu polskiej migracji do Szkocji po roku 2004, przy wykorzystaniu metod ilościowych oraz jakościowych. Migracja opisywana jest w dwóch podstawowych wymiarach: za pomocą określenia skali przepływów migracyjnych (flow), tj. napływu i odpływu migrantów, oraz liczby cudzoziemców w danym czasie na terenie kraju (stock). W badaniach jakościowych kluczowe jest określenie motywacji, strategii migracyjnych, podejmowanych aktywności oraz mechanizmów integracji z lokalną społecznością. Analizy takie, prowadzone w niniejszym artykule, zostały uzupełnione o wprowadzający opis możliwych źródeł informacji na gruncie brytyjskim. W artykule uwzględniono również tło historyczne migracji polsko-szkockich oraz ogólnobrytyjski kontekst, nieodzowny w tym przypadku, jako że Szkocja formalnie stanowi wyłącznie część składową Zjednoczonego Królestwa.
    The article contains an analysis of the process of the Polish migration to Scotland after 2004 based on quantitative and qualitative methods. Migration is described in two basic dimensions: by defining the size of the flows, i.e. the inflow and outflow of migrants, and the number of foreigners in the country in a given time. In qualitative methods the key elements are motives, migration strategy, activities migrants engage in and mechanisms of integration with the local community. Such analyses carried out in the present article have been supplemented with an introductory description of possible British sources of information. A historical background of the Polish migration to Scotland has also been taken into consideration in the article, and so has the overall British context, which was indispensable in this case, as Scotland is part of the United Kingdom.
