Opis:
In accordance with the classic – developmental – approach to identity originated by Marcia (1966), there are two basic identity formation processes: exploration and commitment. The first step on the way to mature identity is exploration. The aim of the present study was to analyze the dynamics of exploration in the period when it begins: in early adolescence. The participants in the longitudinal study (with three measurements at half-year intervals) were 327 adolescents aged 11 to 15 (M = 13.26, SD = 1.20) – elementary and middle school students. The sample was balanced in terms of gender (45% were girls). The instrument we used was the Early Identity Exploration Scale (EIES; Kłym & Cieciuch, 2015), enabling the measurement of identity exploration in 12 domains: physical appearance, free time, family of origin, work, boyfriend–girlfriend relationships, own opinion formation, perception of own place in the life cycle, self-reflection, future, future family, outlook on life, and attitude toward rules. The analysis was performed using a latent growth curve model. It turned out that in some domains (physical appearance, work, boyfriend–girlfriend relationships, and outlook on life) the level of exploration systematically increased, despite the relatively short time of the study; the domain of boyfriend–girlfriend relationships was the only one in which we found no interpersonal differentiation in the intensity of this increase. It also turned out that there was interpersonal differentiation in the level of exploration at the outset in all the domains analyzed.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to examine identity statuses in various life domains and the relationship between identity and well-being. We adopted the three-dimensional model of identity (Crocetti et al., 2008), including: in-depth exploration, commitment, and reconsideration of commitment. Moreover, in accordance with domain-specific approach (Goossens, 2001), we sought to empirically derive identity statuses in various life domains. The participants included 835 emerging adults (Mage = 21.81, SD = 2.33). We examined eight domains previously identified in qualitative research: personality characteristics, past experiences, family, friends and acquaintances, worldview, hobbies and interests, aims and plans for the future, and occupation. To measure three identity processes, we used a modified version of the Utrecht-Management of Identity Commitments Scale (Crocetti et al., 2008) and to measure well-being we used the Mental Health Continuum-Short Form (Keyes, 2013). Results indicate that, although the statuses identified in previous research were, to a large extent, replicated (except moratorium), people were classified in different statuses in different domains; thus, we conclude that talking about statuses should be limited to a given domain. Well-being was the highest in achievement statuses and the lowest in diffusion, but only in two examined domains: personality characteristics and past experience.

Opis:
The main aim of the research was to empirically verify the model of relationships between the three identity dimensions: commitment, in-depth exploration and reconsideration of commitment, as differentiated in the model proposed by Crocetti, Rubini, and Meeus (2008), and the eudaimonic psychological well-being in the model proposed by Ryff (1989). The participants were 504 students and workers aged 17–55. Two separate models were created: one considered identity formation in educational domain, and the other – in occupational domain. Well-being was introduced to the model as an endogenous variable, explained by the three identity dimensions. In the model with educational identity, the identity dimensions explained 28% of well-being variance, and in the model with occupational identity – 17%. The results obtained highlighted the meaning of identity formation on the way to achieve eudaimonic well-being.

Opis:
The process of adolescence, including identity formation, differs significantly from what it was in previous generations. This is a consequence, among other things, of the demographic and economic changes that have taken place in recent years, locally as well as globally. This introduction is devoted to a review of these problems, and the current issue comprises texts addressing selected questions in detail. Some scholars identify groups of young people characterized by a tendency to consciously avoid making commitments typical of adults. However, research results point to the positive impact of taking on adult roles on perceiving oneself as an adult. The person’s identity develops from childhood, encompassing various domains. During the transition from childhood to adolescence, the increase in self-awareness is accompanied by an intensification of seeking information about oneself and one’s own functioning and of making plans for the future. The stage of adulthood involves the verification of previously made choices by resuming exploratory activities, whose intensity is in proportion to the amount of significant changes in the individual’s environment.

The main aim presented study was to examine the relationships between satisfaction with life (Diener, 1984) and five identity dimensions distinguished by Luyckx (Luyckx, Goosens, Soenens, & Beyers, 2006, Luyckx et al., 2008): commitment making, identification with commmitment, exploration in breadth, exploration in depth and ruminative exploration. The participants where 417 students and workers aged 19-17. The results indicated significant relationships between identiti dimensions and life satisfaction and also showed the differences between students and workers group: in student subsample significant appeared to be the connection between in breadth exploration and satisfaction with life, and in workers sub-samplem the connections of life satisfaction and exploration in depth. Moreover, in both sub-samples the significant links between satisfaction with life and ruminative king of exploration were reported. it was also found, that identification with commitment mediates the relation of commitment making anf life satisfaction.

Opis:
In the social-cognitive model of identity formation Berzonsky, (1989, 2011) distinguishes three styles of identity formation: informational, normative and diffuse-avoidant. In order to measure these three styles Berzonsky developed Identity Styles Inventory (ISI). Factorial validity of the questionnaire was usually established via Conhrmatory Factor Analysis with parceling (Crocetti, Rubini, Berzonsky, Meeus, 2009; Crocetti, Shokri, 2010; Zimmermann, Biermann-Mahaim, Mantzouranis, Genoud,Crocetti, 2012). Recently Cieciuch (2010) challenged the results obtained in those analysis and demonstrated that the diffuse-avoidant style should be treated as two-dimensional constructin Poland. In the meantime Berzonsky (2010) developed a revised version of ISI (ISI-4). We address the problem pointed out by Cieciuch (2010) in the Polish data collected with ISI-4. Exploratory and conhrmatory factor analyses, as well an inspection of the association between identity styles and both personality traits and priorities of values strongly support the necessity to split the diffuse-avoidant style measured by ISI4 in Poland into two subtypes.

Opis:
The factor structure of Michael D. Berzonsky’s Identity Style Inventory. How many styles are measured by ISI3?The Identity Style Inventory ISI3 developed by Michael D. Berzonsky is currently one of the most widely used measurement instruments in personality research – both in English language and Polish literature. The following paper is the Polish publication presenting the results of the study on the factor structure of identity styles as conceptualized by Berzonsky and operationalized in the ISI3 questionnaire. The study involved a total of 1995 people belonging to three developmental stages: early adolescence, late adolescence, and early adulthood. By means of confi rmatory factor analysis with parcelling, which has been used in English-language literature, the 3-factor structure of the inventory was confi rmed (similarly as in other countries). However, this paper questions the above method of analysis and proposes that it is necessary to check if the studied constructs are one-dimensional. Verifi cation conducted with the help of exploratory factor analysis and the comparison of alternative models with confi rmatory factor analysis seem to contradict the 3-factor structure. The collected empirical material appears to indicate that the diffuse-avoidant style (measured with the Polish version of the ISI3) in fact consists of two independent dimensions: the avoidant style and the diffuse-careless style.
