    Opis:
    This paper presents a components importance analysis of a complex technical system with the use of selected reliability components importance measures. The analysis was carried out on a propeller shaft stern tube seal of a ship propulsion system. The reliability structure of the analyzed system was modeled by means of the fault tree. For given system components the following were determined: the Birnbaum’s reliability and structural importance measure, reliability improvement potential, criticality measure and Vesely-Fussell’s measure. A transformation of measures based on rescaling their values has been proposed to simplify the comparative analysis using different measures with reference to the same system components. A transformation process for the analyzed system has been presented together with a results visualization of comparative components importance analysis by means of 3D bar charts and radar charts for a data series determined as system components and importance measures. Comments on the proposed methodology have been presented and other ways of its application have been indicated.
    W artykule przedstawiono analizę ważności elementów złożonego systemu technicznego z wykorzystaniem wybranych niezawodnościowych miar ważności elementów. Analizę przeprowadzono na przykładzie systemu smarowania i uszczelnienia pochwy wału śrubowego układu napędowego statku. Strukturę niezawodnościową analizowanego systemu zamodelowano z wykorzystaniem drzewa niezdatności. Dla poszczególnych elementów systemu wyznaczono niezawodnościową miarę ważności Birnbauma, miarę strukturalną Birnbauma, Potencjał przyrostu niezawodności, miarę krytyczności oraz miarę Veseley-Fussell’a, Zaproponowano transformację miar polegająca na przeskalowaniu ich wartości w celu ułatwienia analizy porównawczej wykorzystującej różne miary w odniesieniu do tych samych elementów systemu. Przedstawiono dla analizowanego systemu proces transformacji oraz zaprezentowano wizualizację wyników analizy porównawczej ważności elementów z wykorzystaniem wykresów słupkowych 3D oraz wykresów radarowych dla serii danych ustalonych jako elementy systemu oraz jako miary ważności. Przedstawiono uwagi dotyczące zaproponowanej metodyki i wskazano inne możliwe jej zastosowania.

    Opis:
    The paper presents an improved methodology of analysing the qualitative importance of components in the functional and reliability structures of the system. We present basic importance measures, i.e. the Birnbaum’s structural measure, the order of the smallest minimal cut-set, the repetition count of an i-th event in the Fault Tree and the streams measure. A subsystem of circulation pumps and fuel heaters in the main engine fuel supply system of a container vessel illustrates the qualitative importance analysis. We constructed a functional model and a Fault Tree which we analysed using qualitative measures. Additionally, we compared the calculated measures and introduced corrected measures as a tool for improving the analysis. We proposed scaled measures and a common measure taking into account the location of the component in the reliability and functional structures. Finally, we proposed an area where the measures could be applied.
    Artykuł przedstawia udoskonaloną metodykę jakościowej analizy ważności elementów w niezawodnościowej i funkcjonalnej strukturze systemu. Przedstawiono podstawowe miary ważności, takie jak: strukturalna miara Birnbauma, rząd najmniejszego minimalnego przekroju niezdatności, liczba powtórzeń i tego zdarzenia w drzewie niezdatności oraz miara strumieni. Jakościowa analiza ważności elementów została zilustrowana na przykładzie podsystemu pomp obiegowych i podgrzewaczy instalacji zasilania paliwem silnika napędu głównego statku kontenerowego. Dla przeprowadzenia jakościowej analizy ważności elementów opracowano model funkcjonalny systemu oraz drzewo niezdatności. Ponadto, porównano wartości wyznaczonych miar ważności i wprowadzono skorygowane miary ważności jako narzędzie usprawniające proces analizy. Zaproponowano wykorzystanie skalowanych i powszechnie znanych miar zależnych od lokalizacji elementów w strukturze niezawodnościowej i funkcjonalnej. Zaproponowano także możliwe obszary wykorzystania zaprezentowanych miar.

    The paper presents the application of cost-based, component-importance measures for complex technical systems. A stern tube sealing system installed on a sea vessel was used as an example of a complex technical system. Selected statistics of a ship’s operation losses were calculated. Selected, known-importance measures were presented and the authors’ own approach to cost-based, component-importance analysis was shown. The following measures were discussed: the operation-interruption cost index, the maintenance potential, the simulation-based maintenance index, and maintenance and operational costs. A description of factors influencing the importance of the technical system components was provided.

    Opis:
    Selected issues of component importance analysis for complex technical systems have been presented in this paper. A generic example of a complex technical system and selected statistics of operating losses have been described. A description and diagrams of both qualitative and quantitative importance analysis have also been included. The most significant problems facing complex technical system modelling have been pointed out. A multi-criteria system component importance analysis and the basic criteria for a system component quality evaluation have also been introduced. Some factors influencing the importance of the technical system’s components have also been described. Finally, the necessity of further developing importance analysis methods for machinery operation has been highlighted.

    Anticipatory Failure Determination (AFD) is a tool used in the TRIZ (Theory of Inventive Problem Solving) methodology. This article introduces its concept and describes the process of AFD in different versions of the method. The article presents the application of the AFD method at a very early state of a system’s development, i.e. its concept formulation stage, which corresponds to a technology readiness level (TRL) equal to 2. The system under analysis is a set of devices used to reduce displacement ship hull resistance. The system was modelled using functional analysis. An analysis of system resources was then carried out. Possible direct, indirect, and accident-related failures were identified. A multi-criteria analysis of the causes of system failures was conducted from which the top 10 potential failures were selected. Observations were made on the applicability of AFD in respect to systems not yet implemented.
