Opis:
2,4-Dinitroanisole (DNAN) has excellent properties as a replacement for 1,3,5-trinitrotoluene (TNT) in melt-cast explosives, and the polymeric modifier used is critical to the mechanical modification of the DNAN/RDX energetic composite. In our research, the typical polymeric modifier acrolein-pentaerythritol resin (APER) was successfully added experimentally to the DNAN/RDX system, and the effects of interfacial interactions on the mechanical properties of these polymers in reinforcing the DNAN/RDX energetic composites were investigated by molecular dynamics simulations, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and mechanical testing. The results showed that strong attractive interactions exist between the polymer and the explosives, wherein van der Waals forces were found to play the main role. The morphological micro-images also showed tight binding between the polymer/explosive interfaces, which supported the calculated strong interfacial interactions. The mechanical tests confirmed that adding the polymers can obviously reinforce the mechanical strength and toughness of DNAN/RDX systems. The above observations revealed that the cooperative effects of the APER polymer can help to reinforce the interfacial interactions and mechanical properties of DNAN/RDX composites, which is of importance in the formulation and mechanical evaluation of advanced energetic composites.

Opis:
Longleaf pine is an important tree species in the southeastern United States and studying the temporal patterns of pollen shedding is crucial to a better understanding of its phenology and seed production. In this study, field observation data on the timing of pollen shedding from 1958 to 2013 were analyzed with reference to local weather conditions. Our results indicated that the time of peak pollen shedding after January 1 (TPPS) ranged from 53 days (about February 22) to 95 days (around April 5). There was no significant trend of decreasing TPPS. The number of days with the maximum air temperature above 0 °C was close to the TPPS. The accumulated maximum daily air temperature for the TPPS approximated an average of 1,342 °C. The TPPS declined with an increase in the average air temperature during winters. The time of 80% accumulated pollen density (TAPD) varied from 5 to 32 days, with an average of 13 days. Taylor’s power-law was evident in the TAPD data, with the time group of 10–15 days having an interval time of 2 years. Winter weather was not correlated with the TAPD. These results provide new information concerning the pollen phenology for longleaf pine trees

Opis:
The leaching kinetics of Y and Eu from waste phosphors using a hydrochloric acid (HCl) solution containing hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) were investigated. Characterization of the waste phosphors was performed using XRD to ascertain the phases as (Y0.95Eu0.05)2O3 (red phosphors), (Ce0.67Tb0.33)MgAl11O19 (green phosphors), (Ba0.9Eu0.1)Mg2Al16O27 (blue phosphors), and SiO2 (quartz). The influence of factors such as HCl concentration, addition amount of H2O2, temperature, and reaction time on the leaching performance of Y and Eu was investigated. The maximum leaching recoveries of Y (99.87%) and Eu (88.72%) were obtained at 4 M HCl, 0.2 cm3/g H2O2, 60 ℃ temperature, and 180 min of reaction time at a liquid-to-solid ratio of 7.5 cm3/g. Leaching kinetic results showed the best fit with the shrinking sphere model (1-(1-x)1/3)=kct), ensuring that the overall leaching process was governed by a chemical control mechanism. Activation energies of 42.35 and 33.28 kJ/mol were acquired for leaching of Y and Eu, respectively, at 40-70 ℃, which further supports the proposed chemical control leaching process.

Zaproponowano nową metodę wczesnego wykrywania pęknięć zębów przekładni zębatej polegającą na analizie słabego sygnału drganiowego zmodulowanego niskimi częstotliwościami. Uzyskaną obwiednię zmodulowanego sygnału drgań wykorzystano do wyznaczenia częstotliwości modulujących. Zdemodulowane częstotliwości charakterystyczne otrzymano za pomocą adaptacyjnej, czasowo-częstotliwościowej reprezentacji sygnału z obwiedni sygnału drganiowego wyznaczonej z wykorzystaniem transformaty Hilberta. Spektrogram adaptacyjny odzwierciedla częstotliwość zazębienia i jej harmoniczne, częstotliwość sprzęgła, częstotliwość nośną oraz wstęgi boczne w sygnale drganiowym poddanym analizie z użyciem zoptymalizowanego przekształcenia falkowego. Proponowaną metodę weryfkowano przy użyciu sygnału symulowanego i rzeczywistego. Wyniki wskazują na możliwość efektywnego zastosowania proponowanej metody do detekcji pęknięć zębów przekładni zębatej.
A new method for the early detection of the gear crack was proposed by the analysis of the weak low-frequency modulated vibration signal. The envelope of the modulated vibration signal was extracted and used to demonstrate the modulating frequencies. The demodulated characteristic frequencies were obtained with the adaptive joint time-frequency signal representation from the Hilbert transform envelope of the vibration signal. The adaptive spectrogram matches the meshing frequency and its harmonics, the coupling frequency, the carrier frequency and the sidebands in the vibration signal by the optimized wavelet. Simulated and experimental vibration signals are used to test the proposed method. The results show the applicability and effectiveness of the proposed method for gear crack detection.

Opis:
We consider stabilizing a discrete-time LTI (linear time-invariant) system via state feedback where both the quantized state and control input signals are involved. The system under consideration is stabilizable and stabilizing state feedback has been designed without considering quantization, but the system’s stability is not guaranteed due to the quantization effect. For this reason, we propose a hybrid quantized state feedback strategy asymptotically stabilizing the system, where the values of the quantizer parameters are updated at discrete time instants. We also extend the result to the case of static output feedback.

The elastic and thermodynamic properties of the anti-perovskite superconductor $ZnCNi_3$ and $CdCNi_3$ are investigated by first-principles calculations. With the local density approximation as well as the generalized gradient approximation for exchange and correlation, the ground state properties and equation of state are obtained, which agree well with other theoretical calculations and experiments. Furthermore, by the elastic stability criteria, we predict that $ZnCNi_3$ and $CdCNi_3$ are not stable above 98.1 GPa and 196.5 GPa, respectively. The dependences of the heat capacity, thermal expansion coefficient, the Grüneisen parameter and bulk modulus ($B_{T}$ and $B_{S}$) on pressure and temperature for $ZnCNi_3$ and $CdCNi_3$ are also obtained successfully.

Opis:
The pressure induced phase transitions of $OsB_2$ from the orthorhombic structure (Orth) to the hexagonal structure (Hex) is investigated by using ab initio plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory, together with quasi-harmonic Debye model. We find that the pressure-induced phase transition occurs at 2.8 GPa and 12.5 GPa by local density approximation and general gradient approximation, respectively. It is predicted that $OsB_2$ has no phase transition temperature from the Orth structure to the Hex structure. Moreover, the dependences of the relative volume V/$V_0$ on the pressure, thermal expansion coefficient α on the pressure and temperature are also successfully obtained. The electronic properties including energy band, total and partial density of states and electron density difference for two structures are also analyzed. The Mulliken charges and Bond populations for both Orth and Hex structures are also obtained.

Opis:
Barley stripe mosaic virus (BSMV) is an established and extensively used virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) vector for gene function analysis in monocots. However, the phenotypes generated by targeted gene silencing may be affected or masked by symptoms of BSMV infection. To better understand the potential effects of BSMV-VIGS in hulless barley (Hordeum vulgare var. nudum), the accumulation pattern of BSMV and its impacts on vegetative growth and water status were investigated. The results indicated that the vegetative growth of infected plants was significantly and continuously impacted by BSMV from 10 to 40 days post inoculation (dpi). When the accumulation of BSMV was extremely high (7 to 11 dpi), infected plants displayed twisted leaf tips with an increased water lose rate (WLR) and decreased water content (WC). Virus accumulation declined and stabilized after 25 dpi, at this stage, the WLR and WC were unaffected in the infected plants. The efficiency of VIGS was tested by the silencing of Phytoene desaturase (PDS). RT-qPCR indicated that BSMV-VIGS can be sustained with good efficiency for up to 40 dpi under an altered condition with lower temperature (22 ±1°C) and higher relative humidity (70 ±10%). It was concluded that 25 to 40 dpi was the appropriate time zone for drought-related gene analysis by BSMV-VIGS under such condition.
