- The authors begin their report with quoting literature and say that 3 diagnosticated cases of symptomatic megaloblastic anemia on ground of lambiosis have been described up to now. Their own case concerned a young man who was complaining since two years of dyspeptic pains and pretended to feel since 4 mounths formication and numbness in the extremities as well as a general weakness. On base of physical examinations and additional tests a megaloblastic anemia has been stated as result of a chronic and neglected infestation of Lamblia. After 6 weeks of combined treatment with Vitamin B12 and atebrine a total disappearance of haematologic and neurologie symptoms has been stated. Control hospital examinations (the last one being performed a year after the treatment with Vitamin B12 has been stopped) did not reveal any changes in the peripheral blood and in the marrow. The authors presume that in the development of the megaloblastic anemia in the quoted case the following factors are playing role: disfunction in the production and absorption of antianemic factors, the possibility of a toxic lesion of the erythropoietic system by Lamblia toxines not being excluded. The case observed may be a further contribution to the problem of megaloblastic anemia pathogenesis.
