- The article focuses on the problem of body aestheticiziation as a source of social prestige in the con- sumer society. It also contains an attempt to verify the thesis that the body aestheticization is used as a tool to multiply the resources of social prestige. The results of the research on aestheticization of the appearance presented in the paper indicate that firmly fixed beliefs about social benefits that result from physical attractiveness are strongly entrenched among consumers of the beauty market. Nearly half of Poles claim that the external appearance is one of the most important values – it plays a deci- sive role in both personal and professional success. These beliefs are also illustrated in an observable, statistical increase in the economic value of the Polish beauty market from the current PLN 16 billion to PLN 20 billion forecast for 2021. Additionally, the analysis of secondary data confirms the general thesis that the aestheticization of the body is used to increase social prestige.
