    The article discusses the phenomenon of transformation of masculinity which can be observed in Polish society. The text discusses this issue using the dichotomy between the "old" paradigm of masculinity, and the "new" one and presents the determinants of both of them. While the first one clearly defines masculinity and fatherhood leaving almost no space for self-reflection and redefinition of one’s role, the second paradigm provides a variety of possible patterns, with no indication which one is right. The article discusses the results of a quantitative study showing the degree of satisfaction of women and men with the division of duties that take place in their households. The complementary material for analysis is brought by selected contemporary TV series broadcast on Polish television in which the characters represent different models of masculinity, both assigned to the "old" and the "new" model. The author’s reflections on these two sources - the quantitative research and the analysis of TV series’ heroes - lead to conclusions concerning the relationship between the TV series “reality" and "real” world. The author hypothesizes that the TV series soothe the audience tension as regards appearing models of family relations and of masculinity, and that they transform the individual experience into the common one.

    The text describes the question of gender roles individualisation and their redefinition in relation to the notion of family. The analysis focuses on a new vision of fatherhood, i.e. a model that allows male care and sensitivity, which translates into active and committed child care (“caring masculinity”). The article is the analysis of selected Internet blogs and portals edited by men – source that will serve as material for reflection on both the condition of the father in contemporary Poland and dilemmas related to this.

    The article deals with the problem of parental authorities as understood by young men who become fathers themselves and define themselves as committed parents. The inspiration to undertake this subject emerged from the theme of the reserved, cool, strict or even totally absent father, which appears in the biographical discourse of respondents. Key research questions were as follows: Do modern fathers have a strong model of fatherhood? And if not, does this disadvantage result in the loss of the role and the necessity of its individual clarification? The analytical axis of the text is a twofold understanding of fatherhood, based on notions of parenthood and parenting, defining “old” and “new” dimensions of fatherhood. The “old” pattern is discussed as an important reference point for young fathers. The article presents the impact of the old pattern upon the present one, which is perceived as modern and caring. The data comes from individual interviews with fathers of young children, representing different social classes and coming from cities of different sizes. The research was based on the biographical method.
    Artykuł porusza kwestię rodzicielskich autorytetów w rozumieniu młodych mężczyzn, którzy sami zostają ojcami i definiują się jako zaangażowani w nową rolę rodzice. Inspiracją do podjęcia tematyki jest motyw zdystansowanego, chłodnego, surowego lub nawet zupełnie nieobecnego ojca pojawiający się w dyskursach biograficznych respondentów. Kluczowe pytania badawcze sformułowano następująco: czy współcześni młodzi ojcowie mają silny wzorzec ojcostwa? A jeśli nie, czy skutkiem jego braku jest zagubienie w roli i konieczność indywidualnego jej doprecyzowania? Oś analityczną tekstu stanowi dwojakie rozumienie ojcostwa zbudowane wokół pojęć parenthood i parenting definiujących jego „stary” i „nowy” wymiar. Dyskusji poddany jest „stary” wzorzec jako ważny punkt odniesienia dla młodych ojców. Omówiony został wpływ przeszłego wzorca na ten obecny, postrzegany jako nowoczesny i zaangażowany. Źródło danych stanowią wywiady indywidualne przeprowadzone. Wywiady oparte zostały na metodzie biograficznej i przeprowadzone z ojcami małych dzieci reprezentujących różne klasy społeczne, pochodzącymi z i miejscowości różnej wielkości.

    Artykuł porusza zagadnienie zmieniających się ról w rodzinie z naciskiem na przemiany ojcostwa. Inspiracją do podjęcia tematyki są niedawne zmiany w prawie, regulujące urlopy ojcowskie w Polsce (17 czerwiec 2013), a także obserwowany narastający trend poruszania tematyki ojcostwa i męskości w mediach. Podstawowa hipoteza brzmi: polskie społeczeństwo jest na etapie redefiniowania ról w rodzinie, lecz poziom deklaratywny wyprzedza praktykę. Ponadto, kobiety zdają się być propagatorem zmian, a mężczyźni dopiero zaczynają się konfrontować ze stawianymi im wyzwaniami. Artykuł omawia najnowsze wyniki przeprowadzonych przez autorkę badań ilościowych, na ogólnopolskiej próbie reprezentatywnej. Dyskusji poddany jest pozytywny odbiór społeczny urlopów ojcowskich w zderzeniu z wolniej postępującą redefinicją roli kobiety i mężczyzny na poziomie codziennych praktyk opiekuńczo-wychowawczych. Omówione są przypuszczalne powody, dla których zmiany w obrębie rodziny następują w takim właśnie tempie.
    The article discusses the issue of changing roles in the family with an emphasis on the transformation of fatherhood . The inspiration to raise this subject are the recent changes in the law regulating paternity leave in Poland (17th June 2013) and also a growing trend to discuss the subject of fatherhood and masculinity in the media. The key hypothesis is: Polish society is in the process of redefining the family roles, but the declarative level is ahead of practice. Moreover, women seem to be the promoters of change, while men are just beginning to confront themselves with the challenges they face. The article discusses the recent results of the author’s quantitative research on a representative nationwide sample. The discussion concerns the positive social perception of paternity leave juxtaposed with the more slowly progressing redefinition of the role of a woman and a man at the level of everyday care and education practices . Finally, the most likely reasons for the fact that the changes progress at a low pace are discussed.
