Opis:
Dry matter, crude protein, crude fat, crude ash, crude fibre and elements (phosphorus, potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, manganese, lead, chromium, molybdenum, cadmium, cobalt, nickel and copper) were determined in extracted and unextracted Moringa oleifera leaves. The leaves were ground in a laboratory grinder (unextracted leaves) and a portion was subjected to continuous comprehensive water extraction at 95-100°C (extracted leaves). Next, densification was carried out in a rotary evaporator, where the material was dried natively in vacuum. The chemical content of the samples was analysed according to standard methods. The concentration of P was determined by the colorimetric method. An Atomic Absorption Spectrometer was used to determine K, Na and Ca by emission flame spectroscopy, and Mg, Zn, Fe, Mn, Pb, Cr, Mo, Cd, Co, Ni and Cu by absorption flame spectroscopy. The nutritional value of herbs depends on the chemical composition of dry mass, especially the content of crude protein, mineral components and fibre fractions. The crude protein content of the extracted and unextracted leaves was 13.6 and 31.6% dry matter (d. m.), respectively. No crude fibre was found in the moringa leaf extract. Dried leaves contained 8% d. m. of crude fibre. Concentrations of crude fat in unextracted leaves implicated that they had five-fold more lipids than extracted from leaves. Total carbohydrates appeared to be the main component of dry mass. More total carbohydrates were found in the extract than in dried leaves (71 and 50% d. m., respectively). The research showed significant differences in the content of macronutrients between extracted and unextracted leaves of moringa. The extracted leaves contained higher quantities of all the studied macroelements. Moringa oleifera leaves may be considered to be a good and safe source of Fe, Zn and Cu. No Ni or Cd was found in the leaves of moringa.

Opis:
The study included an assessment of the chemical composition of three varieties of sea buckthorn (Ascola, Habego and Leikora) cultivated with and without an application of mycorrhizal fungi. Micorrhization was conducted with ectomicorrhizal mycelium, which is symbiotic for plants of the olive family. The study was conducted in 2014, at the Experimental Station in Lipnik (53°20′35″N 14°58′10″E), Poland. The soil in which the plants were grown belongs to rusty soils and is classified as Haplic Cambisol. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design with five replications (one shrub - one replicate). The content of nutrients and selected macroelements was determined in leaves of the plants. The mean crude protein content in the leaves reached 20.3% of dry mass. Mycorrhization decreased the protein concentration in the leaves of the tested varieties except the variety Leikora, which responded with a protein content increase. The crude fat content in the leaves of mycorrhized plants was higher by 4.7% than in the samples without mycorrhization. Application of mycorrhizae decreased the crude fibre content in the examined varieties. The least crude fibre was found in leaves of cv. Ascola (9.6%). Sea buckthorn leaves are a rich source of macroelements (N, P, K, Mg and Ca). The results of the study on mycorrhization of sea buckthorn do not demonstrate unambiguously the direction of changes in the content of basic nutrients and macroelements.

Opis:
The numerous publications on the positive impact of sea buckthorn and its products on human health concern mainly the fruits and seeds. However, there is little data relating to the properties of sea buckthorn leaves. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the chemical composition and isotope content in the leaves of sea buckthorn Hippophae rhamnoides L. depending on where its existence. The habitat conditions significantly differentiated the studies traits. Mean crude protein content in the leaves reached 235.0 g∙kg-1 d. m. The most proteins contain plants growing on native soil in the Dolna Odra Power Station. The ash content, fat, fiber and total carbohydrates was significantly higher in the leaves of sea buckthorn growing on sandy soil reclaimed from using ash from coal with NPK 60 – 70 – 70 + sludge. Their average concentration was: 49.2, 63.0, 128.1, 587.4 g∙kg-1 d. m., respectively. The concentration of micronutrients was varied and depended significantly from the place of living plants. A higher level of δ15N found in sea buckthorn grown on land reclaimed and fertilized with NPK. The conditions living of sea buckthorn didn’t differentiate δ13C value. It cannot be unequivocally determined whether the results of the study on the influence of habitat conditions on chemical and isotope composition of sea buckthorn leaves are permanent. Therefore, it is necessary to continue the research.
