Opis:
Optical fibers may be applied in the technique of measuring electric current, particularly as so-called optical current transducers. They are small in size, cheap, light and safe. Their sensitivity, however, connected with the Faraday effect, is rather poor, and they are also susceptible to considerable disturbances (deformations of the fibers). Their sensitivity can be increased by lengthening the path of effect, but this involves also an increase of noise and greater fluctuations of the measured signal due to changes of internal stresses induced by external factors. These negative phenomena can be reduced by applying fibers less sensitive to deformations. The author supposes that photonic crystal fiber with a glass core may display such properties. Orifices in the cladding can to some extent prevent the propagation of deformations from outside the core, and thus decrease the birefringence of the fiber induced by elastooptic effects. The paper presents preliminary measurements of typical photonic crystal fiber exposed to mechanical vibrations.

Opis:
In optical fibers there exists an optical birefringence induced by external factors and stress produced in technological processes. The induced birefringence makes difficult to apply optical fibers in heads of polarimetric sensors. It has been proposed to use a photonic crystal fiber working in an index guiding regime due to the small value of stress in a fiber core produced by internal and external factors. This article presents an expansion of our earlier investigations. The expansion consists of investigations concerning the influence of external magnetic field induction on the state of polarization of light in the function of an azimuth of the input linear polarization ϕ. On the basis of the resulting characteristics optimal working points of the tested fiber were determined.

Opis:
The paper presents the experimental results of the investigations of optical fibre current sensors with an external transformation. The head of the sensor is made of the glass which has a high value of the Verdet constant. The sensor was built on the glass bar (with high value of the Verdet coefficient), polarisers, plastic optical fibres, a light source and a detector module. The paper deals with magnetic field measurements of two types of electrical current conductors: a typical conductor with circular cross-section and a busduct. Output signals from the optical current sensor were displayed on the digital oscilloscope and memorized in ěComp for a further analysis. This type of sensor was investigated on a laboratory stand and on an electrical power line which included conductor where the high intensity electric current flow. The constructed optoelectronic current sensor was tested for detection of current with intensity of the order of 200 A, with an accuracy of a few percent. Practically, the upper border of the current detection by means of this sensor is much higher.

Opis:
The phenomenon of optical birefringence in optical fibers is caused by external factors and stress induced by the manufacturing process. This optical birefringence makes it difficult to apply optical fibers as a polarimetric sensors head. Author of this paper, proposes the application of index guiding photonic crystal fibers because stress values in a fiber core caused by internal and external factors are lower. In this paper investigation results extended in comparison with the previous author’s investigations are presented. This extension relies on investigation of magnetooptic for wavelength 405 nm. On the basis of experimental results optimal work points of optical sensing fibers were determined.

The paper deals with the optical fibre current sensor based on new optical fibre made of glass with a high value of refractive index. This kind of glass was developed to meet the requirements of these optical fibres. The aim of investigations was to develop a new optical fibre with adequate magneto-optical properties and a relatively weak linear birefringence resulting from the process of its production. These features are of essential importance for optical fibre current sensors. The results of investigations concerning such optical fibres have been presented, displaying satisfactory magneto-optical properties, as well as only low linear birefringence induced by stresses arising in the course of their manufacturing.

Opis:
The paper concentrates on the optical fibre sensors of electric current intensity. The specially elaborated glasses with high values of refractive indices were investigated in the prepared testing stand. The glasses have possessed the refractive index values n in the range 1.6 ≤ n ≤ 2.2. For the glasses the values of the Verdet constants for two waveguides: $λ_1$ = 635 nm and $λ_2$ = 1550 nm were determined. The obtained results showed that the elaborated on the base of new glasses optical fibres are much more sensitive on the action of magnetic field than the silica fibres.

The present paper deals with investigations concerning optical fibre current sensors. They are mainly applied in measurements of the intensity of the electric current in the power lines as so-called optical transformers of the electrical current. The most important advantages of fibre current sensors are: safety of service, insulating power as well as their insensitiveness to electromagnetic interference. The investigations were concentrated on designing of adequate sensing fibre, and particularly on the choice of an adequate kind of glass, of which this fibre could be made. Besides, also the head of the fibre current sensor was designed, basing on the suggested and produced sensing fibre. The paper presents the results of magneto-optic tests of the glass and the sensing fibre.

Opis:
The authors of the presented paper deal with investigations concerning applications of the optical fiber sensor of the magnetic field in electric DC engines with permanent magnets. The aim of the sensor is to measure the state of magnetization of permanent magnets (basing on the measurements of magnetic field induction). The knowledge of the state of magnetization helps to decide whether permanent magnets need to be additionally magnetized in order to prevent damages of the whole engine. This can be done automatically, even when the engine is running. For the purpose the Faraday magnetooptic effect is used. The presented investigations concern an optical fiber sensor of the magnetic field provided with a glass rod characterized a high value of the Verdet constant as the sensing element. Thanks to the application of optical fibers the connection of the sensor head with the whole measuring system is constructed of insulating material without using of electrical connections.
