Opis:
Life Cycle Assessment, included in company environmental management methods, has particular importance in marketing management. Analysis of dangers to the environment through tools such as the LCA method allows for comparisons of alternative company management strategies. LCA is characterised as a technique for environmental management that enables environmental impact assessment of the product, process, industry, and even the comprehensive economic sector. LCA also influences decisions regarding environmental policy modification, but most importantly, it influences a company's marketing activities. The LCA technique is applied the world over with great effectiveness in studying specific phases of a product's life cycles – from 'birth to death'; however, Poland's experience in this domain constitutes continuously developing research areas. The experience of foreign research centres confirms the possibility of applying LCA techniques in supporting environmental risk assessment of innovative technologies where LCA is used to study the environmental impact of a new generation product, i.e. flocculants from polymer wastes. This article presents the results of a study of the effectiveness of applying a new generation of polyelectrolyte (gained from polystyrene waste) in treating industrial wastewater and the LCA environmental impact assessment, which was carried out using SimaPro software. Based on the analysis of the results of the application of sodium salts of sulfone derivatives of polystyrene in the treatment of mine water, it was found that these products significantly reduced the pollution indicators of mine water from KWK1. Accordingly, they provided the basis for the development of technical-scale technology.

Opis:
Polymer flocculants are used in wastewater treatment processes, and the necessity and universality of their use result from changes in production technologies, also causing variability in the parameters of treated wastewater. Industrial wastewater contains a substrate that is difficult to biodegrade (BOD5/COD < 0.02), and the presence of toxic compounds makes it necessary to treat them in many stages before discharging them to the receiver or reusing. The study aimed to assess the possibility of using a new generation flocculent to support coagulation. The research was conducted on mine water originating from hard coal mines and on treated coke wastewater from the biological sewage treatment plant. The synthesis of copolymers of acrylamide with acrylic acid and acrylamide with acrylonitrile allowed the extraction of effective products – flocculents with specific properties, supporting the coagulation process and reducing the parameters of contaminants in treated industrial wastewater. Compared to commercial polyelectrolyte Praestol, copolymers of acrylamide with acrylic acid removed turbidity more effectively than acrylamide-acrylonitrile copolymers.

Opis:
The massive emergence of plastics has contributed to their widespread use in everyday life. Unfortunately, the lack of appropriate technologies for processing these materials has contributed to environmental pollution by plastic particles. This study investigated the possibility of obtaining nanoparticles from selected plastics such as polyethylene and polyethylene terephthalate. Polyethylene was obtained from plastic bag waste, and polyethylene terephthalate was from crushed plastic bottles of mineral water. The first stage of nanoparticle production was to grind the collected used plastic waste, i.e., plastic bags and plastic bottles, to the smallest possible size using a cutting mill. Next, the waste was ground in a planetary-ball mill and then homogenised in a homogeniser. The particle size distribution of the obtained particles for selected waste plastics was examined using the Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) method. The objective of the work was achieved – as a result of the performed procedures, nanoparticles of waste plastics were obtained. The following average sizes for particular materials were obtained: plastic bottles (PET) 212.81 nm, plastic bags (PE) 208.14 nm, and smaller particles, e.g. 27.74 nm.
