    This paper presents the perception of the Vistula river, the most important of Poland's rivers, by high-school students from selected Vistula towns and cities. The study of the perception of this river, conducted in 2006-2007, concerned, among other things, the symbolism of the Vistula, its role in nature and landscape of Poland, as well as the course of the river flowing through Poland. It was ascertained that most students perceive the Vistula as a symbol of Poland or the longest river in Poland, but they do not notice, for instance, its ecological role, although they are aware of its role in the landscape of Poland. The results of the study determine the direction and the topics of the geographic education concerning the Vistula river in Polish schools.

    W artykule przedstawiono możliwości poznania zróżnicowania nadwiślańskich krajobrazów kulturowych podczas edukacyjnych rejsów turystycznych szlakiem żeglownym Wisły, najdłuższej rzeki w Polsce. Przedstawiono charakterystykę Wisły z punktu widzenia trudności i atrakcyjności turystyki wodnej. Turysta - obserwator poznaje krajobrazy kulturowe głównie z perspektywy rzeki, ale nie wyłącznie. Są to krajobrazy: 1) miejskie 2) wiejskie 3) przemysłowe. Zwrócono uwagę na: pasowość krajobrazów nadrzecznych (korytarze), elementy dominujące i warstwy historyczne w sylwetkach (panoramach) miast, elementy związane z gospodarką wodną, przeprawami przez rzekę, eksploatacją surowców skalnych, a także na związki ludzi z rzeką (dawne zawody). Ukazano je jako zróżnicowaną i interesującą tematykę edukacyjną.
    The article presents the possibilities of discovering the diversity of the Vistula cultural landscapes during educational tourist cruises along the Vistula river route, which is the longest one in Poland. The Vistula is characterized from the point of view of difficulties and attractiveness of water tourism. A tourist-observer discovers cultural landscapes mainly from the perspective of the river, but not only. These landscapes include: 1) urban 2) country and 3) industrial ones. Much attention is paid to: strips – corridors of riverside landscapes, elements dominating the landscape, historical layers in urban panoramas, elements connected with water economy, river crossing, exploitation of rock resources, relationships between people and the river (former trades). All of the above are presented as a diversified and remarkable educational subject.

    W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki badań dotyczących percepcji rzek – ich wartości niematerialnych. Badania zarówno ilościowe jak i jakościowe przeprowadzono wśród studentów Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego w 2010 r. Opisywane przez respondentów rzeki były uznane przez nich jako „ich rzeki”. Najczęściej były to rzeki przepływające np. przez miejscowość, w której mieszkają lub w jej pobliżu. Zaprezentowano najczęściej wymieniane przez studentów wartości niematerialne „swojej rzeki”, a także – rzeki Wisły. Zwrócono uwagę na specyfikę języka jakiego, zarówno według autorki jak i respondentów, powinno się używać w przypadku opisu niematerialnych wartości rzek.
    The article presents the results of research on perception of rivers, their non‐material values. The examinations, both quantitative and qualitative, were conducted among students of the University of Warsaw in 2010. The rivers described by the respondents were considered to be “their rivers”, most often either flowing through their hometowns or nearby. The non‐material values of students’ rivers and the Vistula were presented. Much attention was paid to the specifics of the language, which should be used in describing non‐material values of rivers according to the author and the respondents.
