Celem tekstu jest podjęcie tematu pracy wokół granic (boundary work) czy zarządzania granicami (boundary management) z uwzględnieniem trybu zatrudnienia oraz statusu rodzinnego badanych osób. Proponowana perspektywa krytycznie podchodzi do dominujących koncepcji work-life-balance, podkreślając dynamiczny i niekończący się proces wzajemnych oddziaływań, w ramach którego granice między pracą a życiem codziennym i rodziną są na co dzień przez jednostki wytwarzane, podtrzymywane, negocjowane oraz przekraczane. Odwołując się metodologii badań jakościowych, chcemy zobaczyć, jak respondenci rozumieją i definiują obszary graniczne oraz jak wygląda proces codziennego zarządzania granicami w zależności od trybu pracy. W tekście dyskutujemy realizowane strategie zarządzania granicami: strategię racjonalnego regulowania granicy i różne strategie kontestowania i zacierania granicy przez badane osoby.
The article aims to examine the subject of boundary work and management, taking into account the employment mode and family status of the researched persons. The proposed perspective is critical towards prevailing work-life-balance concepts and emphasizes the dynamic and interminable process of mutual influences in which the boundaries between work, everyday life, and family are produced, maintained, negotiated and crossed on a daily basis by individuals. Drawing on qualitative research, we want to see how respondents understand and define the term border areas and what the forms of the day-to-day boundary management process are, depending on the mode of work. In our text we discuss implemented border management strategies: the strategy of rational regulation of the border as well as various strategies of contesting and blurring the border among the researched persons.

Praca jest podstawową formą aktywności ludzkiej. Wartość pracy w życiu człowieka kształtuje się pod wpływem procesów edukacyjnych, kulturowych, społecznych i ekonomicznych. Prezentowane wyniki badań empirycznych pozwalają ukazać miejsce pracy w systemie wartości osób migrujących zarobkowo. Praca jawi się tu najczęściej jako wartość instrumentalna, służąca zdobywaniu innych wartości, niepozbawiona jednak aspektów wartości samej w sobie (autotelicznej).
Work is the basic form of human activity. The value of work in people’s lives is shaped under the influence of educational, cultural, social and economic processes. The following results of empirical research show the position of work in the hierarchy of values of people migrating to earn their living. In this case, work is mostly perceived as instrumental value being a means of gaining other values. However, it is not devoid of some aspects of being a value in itself (autotelic).

There must be efforts in living more intensely. We want to clarify in this article what these efforts mean and what presumptions they have. We want to point out that the deepening of perceptiveness and sensitivity is the way leading to a more intense life. Only a sensitive and perceptive person is a great fortune to themselves, also greatly enriching their surroundings.

Opis:
More than half of physicians in Poland are over 50 years old. This raises concerns about the risk of lack of continuity of health care services due to the generational gap, particularly marked among interventional specialties. The physical and mental burden of general surgery affects those doctors in particular. The aim of the study is to assess whether the type of the profession pursued influences the average lifetime of a physician in Poland and the impact of the surgeon’s occupation on life expectancy compared to the rest of the population according to gender. Demographic data was obtained from official publications of the Central Statistical Office. Data on 189,459 physicians in Poland were obtained from the Central Register of Doctors. A total of 6,496 physicians and dentists deaths in the period from January 1st, 2010 to June 30th, 2014, including 722 surgeons, were analyzed. In general, both male physicians and dentists died at an older age than the mean population (74.9 years and 74.7 years vs. 68.9 years; p <0.05). Among women, only dentists lived longer (78.5 years) p <0.05), while women physicians died at a younger age than the average in the general population (76.4 vs. 77.2 years; p <0.05). The average lifetime of both male and female surgeons was 74.2 and 77.5 years, respectively. The average life expectancy of people aged 25 years with college/university education is 80.3 years for men and 86.6 years for women. Male surgeons live significantly longer than the average life expectancy in the general population of men. The average length of life of women surgeons is significantly lower than the average lifespan of women in the general population. The actual lifetime of surgeons in Poland is significantly lower than the expected average life expectancy for other people aged 25 with tertiary education. The average lifespan of surgeons in Poland does not differ significantly from the average life expectancy of other Polish physicians.

Background The paper is aimed at indicating the similarities and differences in use of benefits supporting work–life balance (WLB) between women and men working in Polish small/medium and large enterprises. Material and Methods The sample included 556 workers (311 women, 245 men), aged 20–68 years old employed on the basis of employment contracts for at least a year in Polish enterprises. The respondents completed a questionnaire on the use of benefits guaranteed by the Polish Labour Code, referring to their current workplaces. Results Women took maternity leaves and returned to the same work position after using childcare leaves more often than men. Men took leaves on demand more often than women. Our results also showed that in comparison to women working in smaller enterprises, those working in large enterprises were more likely to use almost all the analyzed WLB benefits – paid days off to take care of others, educational leaves, leaves on demand, maternity leaves and return to the same work position after childcare leave, reduction of business trips when pregnant or having young children and breastfeeding breaks. The size of enterprise, however, did not differentiate the take-up of benefits among the studied men. Conclusions Our analysis brought unexpected results on the lack of common availability of the WLB benefits guaranteed by the law in the case of employees who worked on the basis of employment contracts. We also found that women used most of child rearing benefits guaranteed by the law more often than men, which might reflect still a traditional division of child care responsibilities in Poland. The article presents the meaning of professional work as experienced by teachers in the midlife transition period (the concept by P. Oleś). Qualitative research conducted with the use of an autobiographical method (a reference to the journal writing tradition of F. Znaniecki and his followers, including pedeutology experts) has been placed within the framework of everyday life sociology as presented by A. Schütz, P. Berger and T. Luckmann, and P. Sztompka. The purpose of the presented study is to focus on how the stage of one’s development influences the quality of work and determines the meaning and importance of professional experiences. In order to describe it, a reference has been made to the research conducted among 6 female teachers in the midlife transition period.

This paper reports on the ongoing impact of Covid-19 pandemic in daily life in Argentina, highlighting the initial consequences of the quarantine established on March 20th in an attempt to control the outbreak. We focus on the perception of the role of political authorities, the media and the impact on habits in everyday life, which are being re-shaped in this new context. Online interviews were conducted in different cities of the North, Center and South of Argentina, including the capital, Buenos Aires. This is an exploratory analysis of an ongoing public health event whose consequences are presently far from clear, but its current contours have forced people to modify their daily routines, if not their lives. We highlight extreme reactions, ranging from “indifference” to “panic” or “selfishness” with “solidarity” emerging as the desirable and adequate response to the situation of “mandatory social isolation” or quarantine. Amid the uncertainty regarding the present and the future, novel contours emerge that account for the specificity of a South American country marked by recurrent economic and social crises throughout almost its entire history. Argentina was already struggling with financial difficulties, rising poverty and a fragile labour market characterized by high rates of unemployment and informality. This already delicate scenario was worsened by the sudden irruption of the first cases of Covid-19.

Opis:
The author reveals previously unknown details of the Nałkowskis’ family life which affected the development of Wacław’s character and his interests. These details were also decisive as factors which influenced his scientific and social commitment. Social relationships of his parents and their affinities were also analyzed in order to explain the origins of his worldview. Wacław’s combative nature was already developed in the Russian school, where every symptom of Polish patriotism as well as all forms of free thought were punished. Many questions concerning Nałkowski’s activities can be explained by his experiences from his student days and by the atmosphere at home, where most of his works were written, and where numerous debates and meetings with the representatives of the Polish scientific and patriotic circles were held. The article was composed with the use of the unique source materials collected in the Nałkowskis’ Family Museum in Wołomin, and the memoires of Zofia Nałkowska, the well-known writer and scientist’s daughter.

The main goal of the study is an attempt to show that rites, regardless of what areas of social life they concern, always occur in an interactive and axionormative context. They are universal in nature, but their content and manner of manifestation in individual and group behavior are changing. Attempts were made to demonstrate this from the perspective of Jan Szczepański’s childhood and his youth experiences, related not only to work but also to selected aspects of everyday life. A broad, processual understanding of the rite (ritualisation process) was adopted as a set of individual and group behaviors based on common beliefs and values, both practical and expressive. Efforts were made to demonstrate the basic types and functions of rites, especially contained in the practices of organizational culture, so distant from the practices related to the work performed by Szczepański on the farm of his parents. The analysis made it possible to show how much the work and everyday life of the adolescent Szczepański was framed by sacred rites creating a coherent, predictable and transcendent image of the world and people.

Artykuł ma charakter badawczy, a jego celem jest uzyskanie odpowiedzi na pytanie o postrzeganą jakość życia w środowisku pracy oraz jej uwarunkowania, na podstawie wyników badań ankietowych przeprowadzonych w 2017 roku na reprezentatywnej próbie 308 aktywnych zawodowo mieszkańców województwa zachodniopomorskiego. Satysfakcja z pracy stanowiąca podstawę oceny jakości życia w tym obszarze jest uzależniona od wielu, najczęściej wzajemnie powiązanych ze sobą czynników, w tym postaw i oczekiwań jednostki wobec pracy oraz jej zadowolenia z poszczególnych materialnych i niematerialnych aspektów pracy. Za najważniejsze dla satysfakcji z pracy respondenci uznali: stałość i pewność zatrudnienia, dobre relacje ze współpracownikami, wysokość wynagrodzenia i sprawiedliwość przełożonego. Dwa pierwsze wymienione czynniki oraz wyposażenie miejsca pracy w potrzebny sprzęt i materiały, to te aspekty środowiska pracy, z których badani są najbardziej zadowoleni. Generalnie większość ankietowanych jest raczej zadowolona lub zadowolona z pracy, jednak przeciętny poziom satysfakcji z tego obszaru jakości życia jest niższy niż przeciętny poziom satysfakcji z życia ogółem.
Статья имеет исследовательский характер, а ее цель – получить ответ на вопрос о воспринимаемом качестве жизни в трудовой среде и его обусловлен- ностях, на основе результатов опросов, проведенных в 2017 г. на представи- тельной выборке 308 профессионально активных жителей Западнопоморского воеводства. Удовлетворение от труда, представляющее собой основу оценки качества жизни в этой области, зависит от многих, чаще всего взаимосвязанных факторов, в том числе отношения и ожиданий индивида от труда, а также его удовлетворения отдельными материальными и нематериальными аспектами труда. Самыми важными для удовлетворения от труда респонденты сочли по- стоянство и уверенность в трудоустройстве, хорошие отношения с сотрудника- ми, размер зарплаты и справедливость начальника. Два первых из перечислен- ных факторов, а также оснащение рабочего места необходимыми аппаратурой и материалами – те аспекты трудовой среды, которыми опрошенные довольны более всего. В общем, большинство опрошенных скорее всего довольны или довольны трудом, хотя средний уровень удовлетворения этой сферой качества жизни ниже, чем средний удовень удовлетворенностью жизнью в целом.
The aim of this research article is to obtain an answer to the question about the perceived quality of life in the working environment and its determinants, based on the results of surveys conducted in 2017 on a representative sample of 308 professionally active residents of West Pomeranian Voivodeship. The human expectations to work and the manner of its assessment depend on many the most frequently interrelated factors. The most important for the work satisfaction the respondents considered job stability and security, good relationships with co-workers, amount of remuneration and superior’s fairness. The first two mentioned factors and furnishing of the workplace with the equipment and materials needed are those aspects of the work environment with which the respondents are most satisfied. In general, most respondents are rather satisfied or satisfied with their work, but the average level of satisfaction with this area of the quality of life is lower than the average level of satisfaction with life in general.

The article reviews the book by Andrzej M. Gieniusz, CR, “Inesperto nell'arte di parlare”? (2 Cor 11, 6). Retorica al servizio del Vangelo (Percorsi culturali 25; Roma: Urbaniana University Press 2018). The author begins by discussing the publication in detail, and then proceeds to the specific issues related to it. These include Rom 7:1-6 read as transitio, Rom 8:12 as the test case of orality and literacy in Paul, the category of “religious experience” in Paul, the apocalyptic background of Paul’s attitude toward work, and the role of 1 Cor 15:8 in constructing the apostle’s ethos. The main characteristic of the book by Prof. Gieniusz is a creative combination of rhetoric and theology, discussed in the last part of the article. The book shows how to do theology focused on the newness of the Christian life, the primacy of grace and the uniqueness of Christ’s way (solus Christus).

Określając czynniki obiektywne uwzględniono między innymi przeciętne miesięczne wynagrodzenie brutto, stopę bezrobocia rejestrowego. Oceny jakości życia w oparciu o czynniki subiektywne dokonano na podstawie badań ankietowych przeprowadzonych wśród mieszkańców Podkarpacia. Trudno jest określić jednoznaczną definicję pojęcia jakości życia. Każdy z nas rozumie ją inaczej. Dla jednych wystarczy zaspokojenie podstawowych potrzeb i posiadanie odpowiednich dóbr materialnych. Z kolei dla innych najważniejsze są bezpieczeństwo, relacje międzyludzkie oraz realizacja życiowych planów. Na poziom jakości życia wpływa wiele czynników, między innymi posiadanie zatrudnienia i związane z tym odpowiednie wynagrodzenie. W 2014 roku w Polsce wynagrodzenie brutto przekroczyło 4 tys. zł. Jednak poziom wynagrodzenia w województwie podkarpackim był znacznie niższy, gdyż nie przekroczył 3,5 tys. zł. Z badań wynika, że mieszkańcy Podkarpacia najbardziej obawiają się zwolnienia z pracy, na co wskazało prawie 60% ankietowanych. Utrata pracy powoduje zmniejszenie lub utratę dochodów, zmianę stylu życia oraz często pogorszenie stanu zdrowia fizycznego i psychicznego. Z przeprowadzonych badań wynika, że największy wpływ na jakość życia mieszkańców Podkarpacia ma stan zdrowia, wykształcenie, poziom zamożności oraz poziom dochodów. Na jakość życia ma wpływ bardzo wiele czynników, które zmieniają się w zależności od sytuacji społeczno-gospodarczej danego państwa. Ponadto problemy, jak również pojawiające się możliwości, z jakimi spotykamy się w życiu codziennym wpływają na ocenę jakości życia. Obecnie jednym z aspektów, który w znacznym stopniu wpływa na jakość życia jest praca.
The article presents some aspects that affect the development of the quality of life. The quality of life was based on objective and subjective factors. The objective factors are, among other things, the average monthly gross wage, unemployment rate registered. Quality of life due to subjective factors was based on a survey conducted among the residents of Podkarpacie. It is difficult to determine a clear definition of the concept of quality of life. Each of us understands it differently. For some, it is enough to meet the basic needs and the availability of appropriate material goods. In turn, for the others most important are security, human relations and the realization of life plans. The level of quality of life is affected by many factors, among others, having employment and related appropriate remuneration. In 2014, gross salary in Poland exceeded 4 thousand PLN. However, the level of remuneration in Podkarpackie was much lower, because it does not exceed 3.5 thousand PLN. Research shows that the people of Podkarpacie are most afraid of dismissal, which was indicated by almost 60% of respondents. Job loss causes a decrease or loss of income, changing lifestyle and often deteriorating state of physical and mental health. In the study, the biggest impact in terms of the quality of life of the inhabitants of Podkarpacie is put on health, education, the level of wealth and income levels. The quality of life is affected by a number of factors, which vary depending on the socio-economic situation of the country concerned. In addition, problems as well as emerging opportunities which we encounter in everyday life affect the assessment of the quality of life. Currently, one of the aspects, which greatly affects the quality of life is work.

The article presents the analysis of plans for the life of students graduating from the Craft Vocational School. The plans are connected with the future decisions about the further professional development path (or its lack). It provides particular attention to the aspect of functioning of young people in the space of the modern world, which obliges to decide constantly about their future and is associated with responsible choices and an appropriate perspective of planning. It makes an important role in finding their own place in the world, functioning in a dynamically changing reality. The article explains what is the awareness of lifelong professional development as an existential value.
