    While establishing the lay ministry of the catechist, Pope Francis expressed his hope that, as was the case in Christian antiquity, the catechist—because of the tasks entrusted to him—would be simultaneously a witness of faith, a master and a mystagogue, a companion and an educator who teaches on behalf of the Church. The aim of this article is to highlight the mystagogical dimension of the education of catechists preparing to enter the ministry in parish communities, and to present the related directions of pastoral activities carried out in the Church of Katowice as part of the Archdiocesan Centre for Pastoral Formation. The main research problem concerns the nature of the formation of catechists serving in parish communities and their specific competences. The study uses the methods of analysis and synthesis. The analysis of catechetical documents, carried out in the light of chronologically (sequentially) complementary guidelines concerning catechists' formation enabled to distinguish the mystagogical elements of the theological-pastoral formation of catechists. The article emphasises the postulate expressed in the Catechetical Directory for the formation of catechists as “witnesses of faith and mystagogues” and the lay ministry of the catechist established by Pope Francis, as a possibility and necessity for the formation of two types of catechists that complement each other through their competences: the school catechist—a teacher of religious education, and the catechist who undertakes ministry in the parish community. Pastoral initiatives supporting the formation of parish catechists conducted in the Archdiocese of Katowice are presented as an example of catechetical-pastoral implementation of the postulated activities. They serve as an inspiration for activities in other formation centres.

    Opracowanie jest kontynuacją badania tekstów niemieckojęzycznych rękopisów kaznodziejskich z XIX w. odnalezionych w archiwum sanktuarium skrzatuskiego. Analizowane kazanie na szóstą niedzielę po Wielkanocy (VI. Sontag nach Ostern), a właściwie ze względu na zwięzłość – szkic kaznodziejski, jest napisane w formie homilii do perykopy Ewangelii św. Jana (15,26–16,4), zasadniczo do jej pierwszych dwóch wersetów o obietnicy Jezusa zesłania Pocieszyciela – Ducha Świętego. Treść homilii o bardzo prostej i przejrzystej strukturze (dwie części z trzema elementami każda) jest adresowana do katolika w parafii. Wiara w działanie Ducha Świętego w Kościele przez wieki zachęca do dawania świadectwa wierze dziś. Powinno się to dokonywać przez nauczanie chrześcijanina w środowisku domowym („apostoł w swoim środowisku”), a nawet w gospodzie wobec prowadzących spory religijne, przez zgodność wyznawanej wiary z czynem („wiara bez uczynków jest martwa, a uczynki bez wiary są jak drzewo bez korzenia”), walkę z wadami (zazdrość, pijaństwo, cudzołóstwo, skąpstwo, lichwiarstwo, mściwość, niecierpliwość) i świętość życia w miłości Boga, bliźniego i nieprzyjaciół oraz na końcu życia przez „świętą śmierć”.
    The article is a continuation of the study of German-language manuscript texts from the 19th century, found in the archives of the Skrzatusz sanctuary. The analyzed sermon on the sixth Sunday after Easter (VI. Sontag nach Ostern), or rather because of the brevity – the homiletic preaching, is written in the form of a homily to the words of the Gospel of Saint John (15,26–16,6,4), basically to its first two verses about the promise of Jesus to send the Comforter – the Holy Spirit. The content of a homily with a very simple and transparent structure (two parts with three elements each) is addressed to believers in the parish. Faith in the work of the Holy Spirit in the Church for centuries encourages them to give witness of faith. This should be done by teaching the brothers in the home environment (“the apostle in his environment”), and even in the pub towards religious disputes, by the compability of his faith with works (“faith without works is dead, and works without faith are like a tree without a root”), fight against moral defects (jealousy, drunkenness, adultery, miserliness, usury, vengefulness, impatience) and the sanctity of life in the love of God, neighbor and enemies and finally through “holy death”.

    An analysis of documents of the local synods in fifteen Polish dioceses in Poland (1967-1994) gives an outline of what the preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is to look like in the case of 11 to 15 year-old teenagers. The catechetical preparation includes introduction to the liturgy of the Sacrament, the dialogue of the faith, the Christian maturity and the witnessing of the faith. There is a number of special service scenarios. It is crucial for the candidates to accept personally what results from the Baptism, that is the active participation in the life of the Church. Certain liturgical celebrations, retreats and the family prayer are particularly recommended in this time of preparation. The teenagers and adults with disabilities may undergo their pre-Confirmation program in the institutions that take care of them in partnership with parents or individuals in particular parishes. The immediate preparation in special circumstances (mature adults, engaged couples) may be arranged together with the youth groups or according to the special programs. There is also a custom to choose a name of a patron saint for the Confirmation. The parents, the sponsors and the parish community should accompany candidates by prayer, the formation and the catechesis for the adults. The Confirmation sponsors should be the godparents, the biological parents or other persons of the appropriate standing with the Church.

    Ustanawiając posługę świecką katechety, papież Franciszek wyraził nadzieję, iż podobnie jak miało to miejsce w chrześcijańskiej starożytności, katecheta ze względu na powierzone mu zadania będzie zarazem świadkiem wiary, mistrzem i mistagogiem, towarzyszem i pedagogiem, który naucza w imieniu Kościoła. Celem naukowym artykułu jest wydobycie mistagogicznego wymiaru formacji katechetów przygotowujących się do podjęcia posługi we wspólnotach parafialnych oraz prezentacja związanych z nią kierunków działań duszpasterskich, prowadzonych w katowickim Kościele w ramach Archidiecezjalnego Centrum Formacji Pastoralnej. Główny problem badawczy wyraża się w pytaniu o charakter formacji katechetów posługujących we wspólnotach parafialnych oraz ich szczególne kompetencje. Dla opracowania problemu posłużono się metodami analizy i syntezy. Analiza dokumentów katechetycznych, przeprowadzona w świetle chronologicznie (sekwencyjnie) dopełniających się wskazań odnośnie do formacji katechetów, pozwoliła na wyodrębnienie mistagogicznych elementów teologiczno-pastoralnej formacji katechetów. Wyrażony w Dyrektorium katechetycznym postulat formacji katechetów jako „świadków wiary i mistagogów” oraz ustanowioną przez Franciszka posługę świecką katechety artykuł akcentuje jako możliwość i konieczność formacji dwóch dopełniających się dzięki posiadanym kompetencjom typów katechetów: katechety szkolnego – nauczyciela religii, oraz katechety (katechisty) – podejmującego posługę we wspólnocie parafialnej. Jako przykład katechetyczno-duszpasterskiej realizacji postulowanych działań przedstawiono inicjatywy duszpasterskie wspierające formację katechetów parafialnych prowadzone w Archidiecezji Katowickiej. Stanowią one inspirację dla działań podejmowanych w innych ośrodkach formacyjnych.

    Święty Jan XXIII w swym Dzienniku duszy poświęca wiele uwagi zagadnieniom związanym z duchowością maryjną. Lektura myśli Papieża pozwala jednoznacznie stwierdzić, że duchowość Maryi ma znaczenie kluczowe i wzorcze dla praktykowanej przez niego duchowości. Dotyczy to również problematyki cnót teologalnych. Święty Jan XXIII wielokrotnie dawał wyraz swemu przekonaniu, że warunkiem bycia świadkiem wiary jest konkretne naśladowanie Maryi. Trzeba, tak jak Ona, zawierzyć Bogu całe swe życie i realizowane posłannictwo. Głęboka wiara, na wzór Maryi, inspiruje do dokonywania działań kreujących nową rzeczywistość współczesnego świata. Maryja nie tylko jest wzorem głębokiej wiary, ale też pokazuje jak troszczyć się o wzrost dojrzałości w wierze. Czynnikiem decydującym o rozwoju duchowym jest modlitwa. Papieski ideał traktowania Maryi jako wzoru cnót wiary, nadziei i miłości nie traci nic na aktualności w czasach dzisiejszych. Ta zachęta wymaga odpowiedzi ze strony każdego członka Kościoła.
    This article undertakes an attempt of answering the question: what does role Virgin Mary play in the christian spirituality? This answer is based on the Teaching of blessed John XXIII. This Pope claimed that Mother of God can be for all Christian People a good ex ample of the obiedence to God and in a fervent prayer. John XXIII recommended the worship of Virgin Mary as a way to the Union with God.
