Opis:
Kilkuletnia współpraca Uniwersytetu Przyrodniczego we Wrocławiu z Urzędem Marszałkowskim w Opolu w ramach Programu Odnowy Wsi w Województwie Opolskim zaowocowała opracowaniem koncepcji rozwoju szeregu miejscowości.
Traditional wooden buildings of Opole villages evolved from the simplest ones into various types of frame constructions. The individual objects of this type with varied function survived to the present day in that area. A part of them were moved to the Bierkowice heritage park. However the wooden constructions were displaced by brick or stone, which began in the 18th century as a socalled “frankońskie” buildings. Considerably modest than “frankońskie” buildings are the “fryderycjańskie” settlements which are characterized most often by gables and densely situated buildings are considerably modest than “frankońskie” building. This type of building is scattered in the whole area of Opole Voivodeship. Thanks to this ordered, exact principles of building methods, the tested villages have legible, close spatial sets with homogeneous buildings up to the present day. But the recent years have brought menace to those excellently preserved villages. The intensive processes of modernization in the rural areas constitute the serious menace to the preservation of the cultural heritage. We observe a number of negative trends which may seriously reduce or even irreparably squander this important resource for the development. It is necessary to make an effort and take every possible action which will mould the consciousness as to of how big value the inherited traditional rural environment is. A few years’ cooperation of the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences with the Marshall Office of the Opole Voivodeship within the limits of Village Renewal Programme bore fruit in the form of the study of conceptions of development in a number of villages. During meetings with the village inhabitants the problems of preservation of the place identity with regional character of the Opole Voivodeship appeared. For this reason the conception of the multimedia handbook “Landscape of Renewed Village” has been prepared. The charts presented in the handbook allow to systematize the problems connected with investment processes in the rural area.

Opis:
Revitalization of rural areas, their efficient functioning together with preserving specific "country" character is a value appreciated in European Union countries. Very useful in those domains is the program of Village Renewal, which, through positive thinking of the parts participating in it, brings calculable effects such as increase in social and local activity, improvement of standard and quality of lives of village inhabitants, together with coincident preservation of the identity of the place, tradition and the landscape surrounding it. Opole villages have a very important characteristic, mostly they are of compact development which did not relent to dispersal during the centuries as it occurred in Lesser Poland area. Most of the elaborated villages did not submit to intensive development, hence well preserved, clear special sets and often undisturbed panoramas and entrances to the villages. Additional value is a characteristic yard development with well preserved architectonical details. It can constitute a base to determine directives constituting a base for protection of the identity of the place. The assignment of inhabitants is creating a new image of the village while saving those traditional elements.

Village Renewal Program
Opis:
Landscape perception and its valorization is not easy. Most of all we have to remember that the landscape is not only what we see but it also consists of a very important part which is overlooked. And it is connected with history, tradition, customs and also the needs of people who contributed to its present shape. These are also expectations which are a symptom of interest in the landscape, not only of the inhabitants of such a place, who play a part, but also expectations of local authorities who have enormous influence on it's shaping by making decisions which can irreversibly change the look of the space which surrounds us. The presented analyses of landscape interiors are a part of the elaboration performed within the limits of the program Village Renewal, and which aim at defining individual character of the place, searching for elements which identify the village and which can be its visiting card in future. In the presented elaboration an attempt has been made to estimate those elements, putting the main stress on the visual side of an analyze. For an open landscape, in which silhouette of the village is visible, analyzes varied a little to those created for interiors. The presented methods of analyzing landscape interiors and rural panoramas allow an exact estimation of chosen parts of the village from various angles. Stock-taking and analyzes run only in plans are not enough because of the lack of the fourth dimension, very important for formulating any conclusions and taking design decisions. It is important while dealing with defining new areas for inhabiting or service functions, but also while introducing singular elements. It considers not only building objects together with detail, colour or wall surface quality, but also greenery which can constitute a wonderful supplement to existing interiors. It is particularly important in the case of well preserved, former village sets, together with their unshaken panoramas and interior climate. The localization of new functions on the outskirts of these types of places should be precluded by serious analyze of results of such actions in panoramas and entrances to them, not only by economical prognosis.

Opis:
The water is invariably connected with village landscape. Ponds appeared not only inside villages but also on their edges. They fulfilled utilitarian function, the inhabitants used to water the cattle in them and used them in case of a fire. The neighbourhood of water-courses and also existing water reservoirs was taken by location into consideration. Sometimes new ponds were created on the base of the rivers. They were located inside, on the edge of villages and also as an inseparable element of the parks close to manors and palaces. During the last century the number of water surfaces was considerably on the decrease, however at present people started to appreciate their value again. The former utilitarian function of the retainer water surfaces changed into decorative, recreational or fishing ones. It is alarming that ponds disappear gradually from the country area. The part of the neglected ones dry up because of the lowering of the level of the underground water, but a lot of ponds disappear because of the purposeful activity of man. In the place of the covered ponds new recreational areas arise or they are designed for building areas. At the same time they small ponds are placed on private properties, which confirms the natural needs of the people to commune with water. However, we may show a lot of the interesting examples of the development of water surfaces as regards both the landscape and the use. For the inhabitants of Pietna village in Krapkowice commune the existing ponds and the river are of the main value, which is the base for the new projects exhibiting the unique character of the village.

Do chwili obecnej około połowa z nich utrzymała swój miejski wygląd i odzyskała utracone prawa miejskie.

Opis:
Identification of the place in question is the most important issue for a village. There is nothing more confusing than an indistinction and chaotic pseudo-freedom which leads to the lack of orientation. One of the identifying elements both in the natural landscape and in their anthropogenic origin always were dominants. Their role in rural landscape is very important although not always appreciated, and in cases when it blemished the neighborhood, often underestimated. Traditional dominants in villages among others are: a church with a tower, often situated on a rise or in the highest place in a village, towers of distilleries, breweries or other production workshops in granges, water towers, towers of fire stations, windmills, former, brick tower transformer stations, chapels and side road crosses, single specimens of trees, whole farm sets, with remarkable, in comparison to the rest of the village, storage and farming buildings, mansions and palaces, former recreation halls distinguished by their size and arch castellated window openings, huge village ponds or empty squares in a village. The above mentioned not always are dominants. Everything depends on their surrounding which means that an element is receipted as a dominant and gives character both to the panorama and closed interiors. While situating objects where importance was to be stressed, terrain shape was used. Even a minor hill allowed a good exposition of a church, chapel or cross. Unfortunately, a new object with big cubature situated in a modern village most often takes into consideration only the functional needs of the users. Blocking vistas, dominants, gates or accents are the ideas which are avoided while designing, especially in rural areas. Impulsive actions can be noticed here, which answer only the needs of a moment. In fact it is difficult to find modern built objects in areas of a village which fulfill the expectations which were bestowed in dominants.

Opis:
The concept of order, including the spatial order, should be the basis for any actions concerning the development of the space surrounding us that this particular symmetry between nature and the human activity could be preserved and could mark the harmonious compatibility and the correct interdependence of components. While the cultural heritage as an important element of national heritage, is fairly well protected (durability of the legal solutions, the stabilized structures of public administration, social awareness) is the landscape, especially the rural landscape, it is not properly protected and treated with care, and one of the reasons for this is a crisis situation in terms of spatial planning. Institute of Landscape Architecture at the University of Environmental and Life Sciences (IAK) participates in activities in support of rural leaders since 2001, when it was initiated cooperation with the Office of the Marshal of the Opole Province. Since 2004, there were works began in the Lower Silesia region in cooperation first with municipalities and the local action groups, and afterwards in cooperation with the Marshal Office of Lower Silesia. The employees of IAK has begun since that time training for the rural leaders, moderators, and local authorities, realizing topics related to the cultural heritage and landscape conservation of the village. They were conducted in both provinces, as well as in Silesia, Lublin and Great Poland voivodeship.
