The article presents classification of automatic identification and data acquisition techniques (AIDC) as well as techniques for indoor positioning of objects supporting logistic processes, including especially warehousing processes. The use of presented solutions and the possibility of combining AIDC technics with indoor positioning systems to increase the efficiency of logistics processes in warehouses were discussed. This combination can make a tool supporting rational decision making for allocation of idling employees and vehicles to warehouse tasks and reducing empty runs on the base of position analyse. Then, the idea of using popular AIDC devices − mobile terminals with and without RFID scanners to track the position of employees was presented and discussed. Mobile terminals can provide information about position, which can be used for the allocation of tasks (the reverse functions of mobile terminals). Review of AIDC techniques in warehouses and industrial facilities, information flow in AIDC techniques, positioning techniques in a closed space, Resources positioning and the efficiency of the warehouse process, typical and new approaches to positioning resources in warehouse, the reverse function of mobile terminals are presented in the article.

Opis:
The paper proposes a new approach to the agglomeration of data in cluster analysis. These approach faces the problem of data classification where under the same conditions different conclusions are draw. Such problems occur in many areas of daily life: medicine, technology, and economic and social sciences and economics. The new approach assumes that events like the harvest are attributed to the cumulative probability of their occurrence at the same time. Such approaches will not be found in probability. Thanks to the mathematical theory of records fairly accurate classification of the object can be provided. The paper presents a method of agglomeration of measurement data using the mathematical theory of records. This is the method which can be used in the cluster analysis by agglomeration.

The paper presents a case study of one of the picking zones of real Polish logistics centre of automotive parts and accessories. The aim of the study was to compare the effectiveness of different order-picking methods. The work organization in the warehouse was briefly presented. Then different routing methods in the one block rectangular warehouse were described (heuristics and optimal algorithm). The paper compares different variants of order-picking process and presents their ranking. The graphs of cumulative distribution functions of order-picking time may help the survey. The analysis was based on real data. Calculations were performed using a simulation with the use of Warehouse Real-Time Simulator.

An excessively strict level of reducing the emission of greenhouse gases is a serious challenge to broadly understood logistics. Alternative ideas for reducing the emission of toxic substances in the area of supply chains are sought. Will the Physical Internet, a brave and right idea, be one of the answers? Persuading companies into cooperation and creating innovative technological solutions in the PI-nodes of individual levels are, however, a question of strategic significance, to be settled in the long years to come. The assumed level of reduction of greenhouse gases "cannot wait that long". Implementing the idea of the Physical Internet is a tempting proposition in terms of environmentally sustainable logistics, but in a (very) long term.

The article presents a discussion on designing warehouse facilities and processes as a part of logistics systems. The main technical and organizational conditions of designing and modelling warehouses as well as internal and external factors influencing warehouse operation are presented. The stochastic nature of these factors is indicated. In the next part, a six-piece model of the warehouse facility is presented and discussed. The model embraces spatial conditions of the object and hierarchical division of space for functional reasons, internal transport subsystem with its resources, warehousing process and a set of organizational assumptions for modelling and designing. Typical elements of warehousing process, classification of warehouses due to their functions and tasks, functional classification of warehouse facilities, technological and organizational conditions of designing warehouse facilities, warehouse designing loop, the determinants of warehouse designing, the elements of the model of a warehouse, functional structure of a warehouse, warehousing process, internal transport system, logistics task, work organization rules and informatics system are presented in the paper.

In the face of challenges faced by today’s managers, such as unreliability of processes conducted within the company, low quality of materials, too long time of fulfilling the customer orders and missing the deadlines of their implementation, the role of dynamic parameters of the warehousing as the source of competitive advantage of a modern enterprise is growing. The aim of the study is to identify and analyze the factors determining the effective implementation of the warehousing in the Distribution Center. In the research there has been adopted the following hypothesis: with the increase in the number of customer orders, which is characterized by an increasingly smaller number of assortment items, the importance of managing constraints limiting the material flow within the warehousing is increasing. The above-mentioned hypothesis is verified in accordance with the test procedure including literature research and a case study. The research results show that the Theory of Constraints is an excellent tool supporting the transformation of the warehouse management method. With the help of the Theory of Constraints it is possible to determine precisely the places in the material flow, where the adaptation actions undertaken bring down the greatest effects.

Opis:
Products should always be accurately identified, regardless of the type of warehouse and the specificity of stored products. Proper acceptance of a given product into a warehouse is the basis for the implementation of subsequent warehouse processes and affects the optimization of the entire logistics chain. Appropriate marking and marking of the location of products deposited in the warehouse is currently determined by an IT system that supports companies in organizational, technological and administrative activities. The aim of the article is to present a model of the process of identification of products accepted and placed on a warehouse using the Anteeo WMS information system.
Produkty powinny zawsze być dokładnie zidentyfikowane, niezależnie od rodzaju magazynu i specyfiki przechowywanych produktów. Właściwa akceptacja danego produktu w magazynie jest podstawą do realizacji kolejnych procesów magazynowych i wpływa na optymalizację całego łańcucha logistycznego. Odpowiednie oznakowanie i oznaczenie lokalizacji produktów zdeponowanych w magazynie jest obecnie określane przez system informatyczny, który wspiera firmy w działaniach organizacyjnych, technologicznych i administracyjnych. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie modelu procesu identyfikacji produktów przyjętych i składowanych w magazynie przy użyciu systemu informatycznego Anteeo WMS.

Opis:
The purpose of the article is to show the need to implement solutions in warehouse facilities, focusing on achieving maximum efficiency while ensuring the precision of warehouse operations. In the first part of the article, problems encountered in the implementation of warehouse processes with the participation of man were identified, indicating disturbances generated by the human factor. The next step was to characterize the fully automated high bay warehouse with a description of their operation. Advantages and disadvantages of the presented solution are also described. Then, examples of the use of this type of facilities in two manufacturing companies are presented. The article ends with a summary that discusses the impact of automation on the development of the TSL industry.

The aim of this research is to improve a warehousing process. Its operations are characterized by deterministic and stochastic parameters. In such circumstances, the classical approaches based on deterministic methods leading to better performance of the process would not provide the expected results. Thus, the authors propose the methodology of process improvement. Introduction of a new technical equipment and reassignment of tasks to employees was proposed. The problem has been solved, providing significant improvement of the warehousing process. The proposed methodology of simulation-based process improvement has been proposed and verified. The process map created as the result of process analysis facilitates and accelerates the simulation model construction. The possibility to reflect random values brings the model closer to reality and increases the credibility of results.

Background: The publications can be found in the literature, which show the volumes of commercial warehouse areas in Poland. These data are used for evaluations of logistics attractiveness of voivodships. These evaluations influence decisions of local authorities, which create planning of territorial development and investment climate as well as decisions of investors, and as a consequence, they influence the economic regional development and local labor market. But the publications from various sources related to the subject of commercial areas of warehouses in various voivodships in Poland vary from each other and therefore they do not allow the evaluation of their real value. The aim of this paper was the identification of economic and infrastructure factors and their influence on the size and dynamics of the increase of commercial warehouse areas in Poland together with the market evaluation. Methods: The analysis of existing data covering available information about the characteristic features of the market of commercial warehouse areas in Poland was conducted. The following source documents were taken into account: reports prepared by research bodies and real estate agencies, materials and trade information published by owners of warehouse properties, professional press and opinion of market analysts. Additionally, the analysis of key success factors determining functioning of the market of warehouse areas was used as a tool of the strategic analysis. Results: Based on the conducted researches the areas of commercial warehouses in Poland and in each voivodship were calculated. The key indicators stimulating the development of this area were presented. The most important types of investors were defined and their shares in total investigated area were estimated. The supply and the demand were estimated and the values of rental rates and indicators of unused areas were given. The group of tenants was described as well as the structure of signed agreements and their share in total rental market. The author used also some of his own researches published in reports on the condition of the logistics in Poland. Conclusions: There is a relationship between the range and the dynamics of increase of commercial warehouse areas and the economic conditions (described by key macro-economic indicators) and the development of transport infrastructure as well as local economic and social conditions. Obtained results can be used by local authorities in territorial development and as a support for economic decisions, as well as by investors interested in construction of warehouses and their renting. The variability in time of presented values and their dependences on various factors shows the purposefulness of further researches in this area.
Wstęp: W literaturze publikowane są dane dotyczące wielkości komercyjnej powierzchni magazynowej w Polsce, które są wykorzystywane do oceny atrakcyjności logistycznej poszczególnych województw. Oceny mają wpływ na decyzje organów samorządowych kształtujących politykę przestrzenną i klimat inwestycyjny oraz na decyzje inwestorów, a poprzez nie na rozwój gospodarczy regionów i lokalne rynki pracy. Jednak publikowane w różnych źródłach dane dotyczące wielkości komercyjnej powierzchni magazynowej w poszczególnych województwach w Polsce są zróżnicowane i nie pozwalają ocenić ich rzeczywistych wartości. Celem pracy jest identyfikacja czynników ekonomicznych i infrastrukturalnych oraz ich wpływu na wielkość i dynamikę wzrostu komercyjnej powierzchni magazynowej w Polsce wraz z oceną rynku. Metody: Analiza danych zastanych obejmująca przegląd dostępnych danych i informacji pozwalających na charakterystykę rynku komercyjnej powierzchni magazynowej w Polsce. Analizie zostały poddane raporty instytucji badawczych i agencji nieruchomości przemysłowych, materiały i informacje handlowe publikowanie przez właścicieli nieruchomości magazynowych, prasa branżowa oraz opinie analityków rynku. Ponadto zostało wykorzystane narzędzie analizy strategicznej w postaci analizy kluczowych czynników sukcesu determinujących funkcjonowanie rynku powierzchni magazynowych. Wyniki: Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań obliczono wielkość komercyjnej powierzchni magazynowej w Polsce i w poszczególnych województwach w badanym okresie, oraz kluczowe czynniki warunkujące jej rozwój. Wskazano najważniejsze rodzaje inwestorów i określono ich udziały w wielkości badanej powierzchni. Oceniono podaż i popyt, a dla poszczególnych województw dysponujących tego rodzaju powierzchnią magazynową podano wartości stawek czynszu oraz wskaźniki powierzchni niewynajętej. Wskazano także branże występujące w grupie najemców oraz rodzaje zawieranych umów najmu i ich udział w wielkości najmu ogółem. Autor wykorzystał również w niniejszym artykule część wyników badań własnych opublikowanych w raportach dotyczących stanu logistyki w Polsce. Wnioski: Istnieje zależność pomiędzy wielkością i dynamiką wzrostu komercyjnej powierzchni magazynowych, a stanem gospodarki wyrażonym za pomocą kluczowych wskaźników makroekonomicznych oraz rozwojem infrastruktury transportu, a także lokalnych uwarunkowań gospodarczych i społecznych. Wyniki mogą być wykorzystane przez jednostki samorządu terytorialnego w pracach planistycznych i decyzjach dotyczących gospodarki przestrzennej oraz kierunków rozwoju gospodarczego, a także przez inwestorów zainteresowanych zarówno budową obiektów magazynowych jak i wynajmem powierzchni magazynowej. Zmienność w czasie wartości przedstawionych danych liczbowych i ich zależność od różnych czynników wskazuje na celowość kontynuacji badań w zakresie i przedziale czasu podanym przez autora.

Background: A key element of the evaluation of warehouse operation is the average order-picking time. In warehouses where the order-picking process is carried out according to the "picker-to-part" rule the order-picking time is usually proportional to the distance covered by the picker while picking items. This distance can by estimated by simulations or using mathematical equations. In the paper only the best described in the literature one-block rectangular warehouses are considered. Material and methods: For the one-block rectangular warehouses there are well known five routing heuristics. In the paper the author considers the return heuristic in two variants. The paper presents well known Hall's and De Koster's equations for the average distance traveled by the picker while completing items from one pick list. The author presents own proposals for calculating the expected distance. Results: the results calculated by the use of mathematical equations (the formulas of Hall, De Koster and own propositions) were compared with the average values obtained using computer simulations. For the most cases the average error does not exceed 1% (except for Hall's equations). To carry out simulation the computer software Warehouse Real-Time Simulator was used. Conclusions: the order-picking time is a function of many variables and its optimization is not easy. It can be done in two stages: firstly using mathematical equations the set of the potentially best variants is established, next the results are verified using simulations. The results calculated by the use of equations are not precise, but possible to achieve immediately. The simulations are more time-consuming, but allow to analyze the order-picking process more accurately.
Wstęp: Kluczowym elementem oceny funkcjonowania magazynu jest średni czas kompletacji zamówień. W magazynach, w których kompletacja odbywa się wg zasady "człowiek do towaru" czas kompletacji zazwyczaj jest proporcjonalny do dystansu pokonanego przez magazyniera, który może być oszacowany za pomocą symulacji lub z wykorzystaniem wzorów matematycznych. W artykule rozpatrywane są najlepiej opisane w literaturze magazyny prostokątne jednoblokowe. Metody: Dla magazynów prostokątnych jednoblokowych znanych jest 5 heurystyk wyznaczania trasy magazyniera. W artykule autor rozpatruje jedną z nich: metodę return (w dwóch wersjach). Przedstawione są wzory na średnie dystanse pokonywane przez magazyniera podczas procesu kompletacji zamówień znane z prac Halla i De Kostera. Autor przedstawia też własne propozycje. Rezultaty: Wyniki uzyskane w wyniku zastosowania wzorów matematycznych (wzory Halla, De Kostera i autora artykułu) porównano z rezultatami symulacji komputerowych. Dla większości wzorów średni błąd szacunku nie przekracza 1% (wyjątkiem są wzory Halla). Do przeprowadzenia symulacji wykorzystano program Warehouse Real-Time Simulator. Wnioski: Czas kompletacji zamówień jest funkcją wielu zmiennych i jego optymalizacja nie jest zadaniem łatwym. Może być jednak przeprowadzana dwuetapowo: najpierw korzystając ze wzorów matematycznych wybiera się zbiór wariantów potencjalnie najlepszych, następnie wyniki weryfikuje się za pomocą symulacji. Opis:
Warehousing is a labour-intensive process, requiring warehouse operators to use different methods of work and various equipment and to be in constant motion. During this process, various types of warehousing errors can occur, which can be reduced with the introduction of a suitable strategy. A prerequisite for this is to have sufficient knowledge of the specifics of error prevention in the warehouse process that are mainly linked to how warehouse operators perceive the usefulness of modern technology, the introduction of modern work processes and their own accountability in work. This study aims to develop a strategy that takes into account these aspects and is an ideal solution for the prevention of potential errors in the warehouse process of the company.
