    Opis:
    Research on the evolution of tourism space in Maghreb cities is hindered due to the limited availability and questionable credibility of the data. The guidebook analysis method was developed by S. Liszewski (1999) and it offers a way of analysing tourism space. The main objective of this research paper is to indicate the advantages and disadvantages of using this method to analyse changes in the urban tourism space of the Maghreb. This paper presents conclusions of the research conducted in six locations in the period 2012-2014.

    The author attempts to sum up research on urban tourism space conducted as a part of the tourism geography MA seminar at the University of Łódź. He checks and enhances the definition of tourism space and tests a method of analyzing the contents of guidebooks across time. He also defines the correlation between the range of forms of urban tourism space, changes to it as well as to population, and the past and the present functions of the city.

    In the paper the characteristics of one of the most valuable rivers in Łódź, the Jasień, are described. The Jasień is a unique example of a river once working for industry but now existing as untapped tourism potential despite its negative image and even being partly forgotten. The description of the most valuable historical hydro-technical work along the river’s course is given with some useful historical information. In the summary, a suggestion of how the river bank might become a trigger for studying Łódź’s history, as its industrial development was so strongly related to the river network.

    Artykuł ma charakter przeglądowy, a jego celem jest przedstawienie kierunków badań polskich geografów turyzmu nad miastami. Prezentując główne kierunki badań autor omówił prace dotyczące: walorów turystycznych miast, funkcji turystycznej miast, miejskiej przestrzeni turystycznej, analizy rynkowej miasta turystycznego, czasu wolnego mieszkańców miast oraz badań krajobrazów turystycznych miast. Na zakończenie pracy autor przedstawił, jego zdaniem, najważniejsze problemy badawcze miast czekające na podjęcie przez polskich geografów turyzmu.
    This article is a review and its aim is to present research into urban areas by Polish tourism geographers. In presenting the main research trends. the author has discussed work on the following issues: the tourism assets and function of urban areas, urban tourism space, the market analysis of a tourism urban area. the leisure time of urban inhabitants, and the study of urban tourism landscapes. In the conclusion the author presents the most important issues, in his opinion, awaiting study by Polish tourism geographers.
