Opis:
A design of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) construction, intended for autonomous flights in a group, was presented in this article. The design assumptions, practical implementation and results of the experiments were given. Some of the frame parts were made using 3D printing technology. It not only reduces the costs but also allows for better fitting of the covers to the electronics, which additional-ly protects them against shocks and dirt. The most difficult task was to develop the proper navigation system. Owing to high costs of preci-sion positioning systems, common global positioning system (GPS) receivers were used. Their disadvantage is the floating position error. The original software was also described. It controls the device, allows performing autonomous flight along a pre-determined route, anal-yses all parameters of the drone and sends them in a real time to the operator. The tests of the system were carried out and presented in the article, as well.

Opis:
Currently, the territory of the Republic of Poland faces a growing threat of contamination with its sources in catastrophes and technical failures in industrial plants (including nuclear power plants) and uncontrolled release of high-toxic chemicals during transport and, which cannot be excluded, terrorism. The increased level of threat resulting from, among others, those factors caused that the National Contamination Detection and Alerting Systems (KSWiA) with the Contamination Detection System of the Polish Armed Forces as the system coordinator was established in the Republic of Poland in 2006. This paper presents the outline of the aerial system of contamination detection, mainly its technical elements, based on the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) carrying on board basic and special-purpose equipment. The elementary way of operating the system while performing tasks as well as requirements for its maintenance and handling have been proposed. Introduction of UAV systems would greatly increase the effectiveness of the Contamination Detection System of the Polish Armed Forces, but also other civilian functional subsystems of KSWSiA. There are many advantages to using them, such as no need to expose personnel to contamination and an enemy impact, high mobility, maneuverability and the capability to operate under difficult terrain conditions.

The use of unmanned aircraft systems by the armed forces is currently an area of interest to many foreign and domestic experts, mainly due to the characteristics and properties of these systems. Amorphous battlefields, as well as dynamism, where efforts force the need for combat measures which are capable of carrying out the highest risk missions, are limiting the risk of losing personnel in manned aircraft. Due to the fact that the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland are involved in several operations outside the country, and the fact that a modern and strong army must also consist of modern armed forces, there seems to be a desire to acquire the latest technological achievements – unmanned aircraft systems. This publication discusses the possibility of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland. using unmanned aircraft systems.

The study was created thanks to the author’s preferences to learn increasingly more about new technologies that are able to increase the potential of internal security of the state. Recently, interest in recording areas (difficult to access, dangerous, monitored in adverse weather conditions, monitored due to the implementation of tasks by relevant services), the development of methods enabling the transmission of various materials at a distance, and performing other complicated activities have increased. For this purpose, unmanned aerial vehicles (so-called drones, UAVs) that are versatile in many respects are used. The author noticed the need to disseminate such innovative devices on native soil, especially for using them in multidirectional strengthening of the security sphere. Polish companies producing UAVs for many foreign customers have already marked their presence in this matter. The achievements of the designers are so impressive that it makes us appreciate the development of our technical thought, and above all, the use of drones to ensure security and public order in Poland. A series of training courses is already conducted by the Police Academy in Szczytno, which is a good solution both for teachers and, above all, for the trainees themselves. Such an initiative will undoubtedly translate into increased interest in drones, and especially the incredible usefulness of these devices for uniformed services and other entities.

In Vietnam, there are a huge number of quarries that are exploited and mainly provide materials to the construction sector of the country. However, most of the quarries are operating without topographic plans due to a lack of surveying activities. This paper introduces an approach of using low-cost UAVs to produce digital surface models which in turn are used to draw topographic maps of quarries in Vietnam. For assessments of accuracy, safety, and working efficiency, four quarries different in terrain conditions, namely Luong Son, Long Son, Nui Nho, and Nui Dai were selected as the study areas. Ground control points were established in each area by using GNSS/RTK for camera calibration and accuracy assessment. The accuracy of DSM was assessed using the root-mean-square error (RMSE) in X, Y, Z, XY, and XYZ components. Capturing images from each site were processed by using Agisoft®PhotoScan Professional 1.5.2. The results showed that all the DSM models of the four areas have high accuracy, RMSE on the checked GCPs ranges from 1.0 to 9.0 cm, from 1.2 to 5.0 cm, from 4.4 to 13.4 cm, from 1.6 to 10.3 cm, and from 4.9 to 16.9 cm for X, Y, Z, XY, XYZ components, respectively. We concluded that the low-cost UAV based mapping technology can guarantee the accuracy of DSMs, the safety of UAV flying, and the efficiency of surveying working simultaneously when using in quarries.

Opis:
Small-unmanned aerial vehicle propellers usually have a low figure of merit due to operating in the low Reynold’s number region due to their size and velocity. The airflow on the airfoil becomes increasingly laminar in this region thus increasing the profile drag and consequently reducing the figure of merit of the rotor. In the article, the airfoil geometries are parameterized using the Class/Shape function transformation. Particle swarm optimization is used to design an airfoil, operating in a Reynolds number of 100,000, which has a high lift to drag ratio. To avoid exceeding geometric constraints of the airfoil, a deterministic box constraint is added to the algorithm. The optimized airfoil is then used for a preliminary design of a rotor; given some design, constraints on the tip chord the rotor radius and the blade root chord, with parameters that achieve the highest theoretical figure of merit. The rotor parameters are obtained using a combination of momentum theory and blade element theory. The figure of merit of an optimal propeller with the same geometric parameters is then compared using the optimized airfoil and the Clark Y airfoil. The optimization is done in MATLAB while the aerodynamic coefficients are obtained from XFOIL. The results of the numerical simulation are presented in the article.

One of the issues related to formation flights, which requires to be still discussed, is the stability of formation flight in turns, where the aerodynamic conditions can be substantially different for outer vehicles due to varying bank angles. Therefore, this paper proposes a decentralized control algorithm based on a leader as the reference point for followers, i.e. other UAVs and two flocking behaviors responsible for local position control, i.e. cohesion and repulsion. But opposite to other research in this area, the structure of the formation becomes flexible (structure is being reshaped and bent according to actual turn radius of the leader. During turns the structure is bent basing on concentred circles with different radiuses corresponding to relative locations of vehicles in the structure. Simultaneously, UAVs' airspeeds must be modified according to the length of turn radius to achieve the stability of the structure. The effectiveness of the algorithm is verified by the results of simulated flights of five UAVs.

The research problem described in the paper originates from the lack of adequate force protection of tactical level logistic units supporting forces in battle. The author tries to prove the necessity of the application of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in order to ensure security of tactical level supply chains. The new technologies may be an innovative and perspective solution for the problem of the absence of force protection structures in logistic units. The author considers the use of UAVs for observation, reconnaissance and active force protection of logistic points and logistic units supporting tactical level forces. The problem is to choose the correct UAV type and to organise the unmanned autonomous systems (UAS) defined as electromechanical systems with no human operator on board, capable of performing operations in airspace.

The paper presents the testing process dedicated to the unmanned aerial vehicle flight controller. The quality of performance of stabilization and navigation tasks has been investigated not during standard in-flight tests, but in the hardware in the loop (HIL) simulation environment. The virtual flight was controlled by the real autopilot. The artificial flight parameters were generated and autopilot uses them as in real flight conditions. Such approach saves time and is economically justified, because of the lack of hardware losses during the failed flight tests.

Unmanned aerial vehicles are increasingly used in military service and in everyday life. Drones can be used for many purposes i.e. recreation, military applications or to increase the safety of citizens. Unmanned aerial vehicle can become a source of information, based on which object/operator can make a certain decisions. Unmanned aerial vehicles are increasingly used in ecological research. UAV can be capable of making sophisticated maps and may scan terrain for forest fires. They can contribute to safe infrastructure maintenance and management. Often, however, these objects being in the possession of civilians can become a source of danger and impact on privacy. It is therefore necessary to detect and recognize such objects in a real time. The aim of this study was to analyse the acoustic signal of unmanned aerial vehicle equipped with four rotating propellers – X4 structure (12000 rpm/min). The maximum speed of the object is 60 km/h and the ceiling to which it can operate flights reaches 1500 m AGL. The acoustic signal was acquired by Olympus LS11 digital recorder. Recordings were performed when the object is away from the recording equipment at the distance of 1 km. Analysis of the recorded signal can provide a significant information about the unmanned aerial vehicle. Results showed that some specific characteristic signal features are clearly visible in the signal even if the object is far away from the recording equipment.
