Opis:
Cloud detection is an important field in meteorology and remote sensing, due to clouds role in meso- and macroscale weather processes. Most of the dangerous weather events, such as hail fall, strong wind or severe storm can be forecasted or predicted using satellite imagery. MODIS data are very useful in nephological analysis as they cover vast majority of Earth surface and provide hiperspectral images with a short revisit time. Tests of RGB compositions of MODIS bands were performed, to look for model compositions for cloud detection. Three best compositions have been chosen: RGB 17/18-6-26, RGB 30-23-8, RGB 34-1-17. They allow to delimitate clouds and identify their family, type and (in some cases) specie. MODIS cloud masks accuracy has been checked, based on model RGB compositions. Results show that each mask detects different family or type of clouds, and accuracy and precision of this process depends on the mask parameters. For proper cloud delimitation an assistance of a qualified meteorologist is required.

The typological reading and application of Hebrew texts deserve the greatest attention among the numerous ways of reading and applying the Old Covenant ideas, traditions and texts. Through the typological reading and application of the text, the text is given broad latitude for its typological application. Treating the Bible from the typological point of view is not only restricted to quoting the books of the Old Testament. Instead, numerous allusions and references to events, characters, places and descriptions are made. The interpretation of these analogies leads to the understanding of the whole truth of the Old and New Testament. “Christians therefore read the Old Testament in the light of Christ who died and rose from the dead. Such typological reading reveals an inexhaustible part of the Old Testament” (CCC 129). Therefore typological thinking is necessary in order to interpret the Bible messages appropriately.

Let f(z), $z = re^{iθ}$, be analytic in the finite disc |z| < R. The growth properties of f(z) are studied using the mean values $I_δ(r)$ and the iterated mean values $N_{δ,k}(r)$ of f(z). A convexity result for the above mean values is obtained and their relative growth is studied using the order and type of f(z).

It is studied how rank two pure subgroups of a torsion-free Abelian group of rank three influences its structure and type set. In particular, the criterion for such a subgroup B to be a direct summand of a torsion-free Abelian group of rank three with the finite type set containing the greatest element which does not belong to the type set of B, is presented. Some results for nil groups and the square subgroup of a decomposable torsion-free Abelian group are also achieved. Moreover, new results for mixed Abelian groups supporting only associative rings are obtained. In particular, the first example of an Abelian group supporting only associative rings but not only commutative rings is given.

Zagadnienie stylistycznego ukształtowania komunikatów prasowych autorka ujmuje w trzech perspektywach, nawiązując do koncepcji stylów funkcjonalnych, komunikacji oraz dyskursu. We wszystkich tych płaszczyznach jest ponadto obecna problematyka genologicznego zróżnicowania wypowiedzi. Styl komunikatów prasowych autorka postrzega jako kategorię polimorficzną, pojemną i otwartą. Oznacza to możliwość rozpatrywania stylu na różnych poziomach konkretyzacji: najbardziej abstrakcyjnie (poziom komunikacyjny i/lub dyskursywny), mniej abstrakcyjnie (poziom gatunkowy) oraz konkretnie (poziom wypowiedzi). Dzięki temu gęstnieje siatka cech stylistycznych (często synkretycznych) i konkretyzują się wykładniki. Styl jest zaś rozpatrywany deskrypcyjnie – nie dyferencjalnie.
This chapter presents the problem of the stylistic form of press releases referring to the concepts of functional styles, communication and discourse. All these perspectives also refer to diversity of expression in terms of genre. The style of press releases is seen as a polymorphic, capacious and open category. This means the possibility of examining the style at different levels of concretization, including the most abstract manner (the level of communication and /or discourse), less abstract tone (the level of genres) and specific way (the level of expression). Due to this approach the grid of stylistic features thickens and the exponents are mapped.

Określenie takich kategorii pojęć pozwoli na sformowanie metody projektowej, której użycie będzie ułatwiało projektowanie domu jutra. Dom jutra jest umiejscowiony w szerokim kontekście historycznym, co pozwala na połączenie dziedzictwa kulturowego z przyszłością. Takie postępowanie chroni przed pułapką futuryzmu. Kontekst wartości w rozważaniach teoretycznych na tematy tak podstawowe jak dom, jest jądrem aksjologicznym. Wokół tak rozumianego punktu odniesienia będą toczyły się spory, tak długo jak będą istniały domy.
An attempt to define and isolate data for formulating a concept of the future. Defining such categories of notions will make it possible to form an effective method of designing tomorrow’s house. Tomorrow’s house is located in a broad historical context which facilitates a combination of the cultural heritage with the past. Such conduct protects us against the trap of futurism. The context of values in theoretical ruminations on such essential themes as the house is the axiological core. Around such a point of reference, disputes will proceed as long as houses exist.

Opis:
This article discusses female stereo(types) functioning in culture and social awareness. It analyses Cindy Sherman’s series of photographs, highlighting film as one of its sources. Hollywood productions did not only create but also consolidated several female images whose network of beliefs, views, and fantasies about women continues until today. Exploring the female types generated by cinema, the artist changes her outfits-costumes, hairstyles, make-up, and set design not only to present the multitude of the types but also to encourage self-reflection. Another important aspect of the article is identity. Using Untitled Film Stills to provide context, the author of the text analyses the complexity and amalgamation of female identity based as much on women’s own choices as on what seems personal but is in fact effected by visual culture. This leads the author to the discussion of stereotypes embedded in our awareness through which we are able to recognise what the photographs communicate. The same stereotypes also format our perception of reality, distorting and inhibiting our processes of learning and reflection. The point of both Sherman’s series and this article is to expose these stereotypes and activate our defence mechanisms to negate them.

The concept of typography over the centuries changed its meaning. Special transformation of the meaning of the term occurred in the late nineteenth/twentieth century, when typography ceased to be the exclusive domain of printers and the art of beautiful type. The transformation of the modern world, new ways of communication, as well as changes of social and technological character meant that its functional and productive nature started to be clearly accentuated. Today, when typography entered the digital space, gaining a wide range of new means of expression, its value as a tool of visual communication, of the mediator between the author and the reader is obviously emphasized. Its aesthetic function, so important in the past, becomes of less significance. The paper summarizes various definitions of typography, both those of foreign, as well as of Polish authors, showing the evolution of the concept. Particular attention was paid to the development of the concept of typography in Poland in the difficult period of the communist regime, the chaos of the 90s, and today.

The paper considers organising wireless access in vehicular environments. Such environments are normally affected by Doppler effects, so the IEEE 802.11p standard is expected to ensure an appropriate quality of service for moving objects. Theoretically, the IEEE 802.11p standard compensates for Doppler effects, but it should be ascertained whether 802.11p is still efficient at tiny Doppler shifts and when an object moves at higher speeds. The 802.11p link provides a data rate which is twice as low for 802.11a. Thus, an end-to-end simulation is carried out for the links at wide ranges of signal-to-noise ratio by varying the Doppler shift from 0 Hz to 100 Hz. The simulation also involves 8 modulation types for 128-, 512-, and 1024-bit packet transmissions to cover all possible study cases. The efficiency criterion is the packet-error rate, to which the data rate is additionally considered. The main simulation result is that the 802.11p link is efficient only at not high speeds. The packet length should be shortened to suppress the influence of the object’s speed. Therefore, to enable high-quality wireless access in vehicular environments, a combination of the 802.11p and 802.11a links should be used, where phase shift keying is more effective for 802.11a and quadrature amplitude modulation is more effective for 802.11p. The trade-off herein is a data rate versus margin speed.

Nawierzchnie asfaltowe, tak jak każdą konstrukcję, cechuje określona trwałość, co oznacza, że ustalone dla nich funkcje są spełniane w konkretnym lub prognozowanym okresie ich użytkowania. Program budowy dróg krajowych zakłada, że w latach 2014–2023 powstanie 2,2 tys. km dróg krajowych, w tym 35 obwodnic o długości ponad 360 km. Planowane drogi będą kosztować prawie 93 mld zł, przy czym ok. połowa tej kwoty będzie pochodziła ze środków unijnych. Generalna Dyrekcja Dróg Krajowych i Autostrad zapowiedziała, że 810 km nowych dróg powstanie w technologii betonowej, stawiając tym samym na dywersyfikację działań obu branż – betonowej i asfaltowej.
National road construction program stipulates that in the years 2014-2023 2.2 thousand km of national roads will be built, including 35 ring roads with a total length of over 360 km. The planned roads will cost nearly PLN 93 billion, approx. half of this amount to come from ED funds. The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways announced that 810 km of new roads will be built in concrete technology, thereby diversifying the activities of both sectors - concrete and asphalt industries.

Opis:
Current codes of biological nomenclature define taxon names using types and ranks: the type determines the minimal membership of a named taxon, and the rank is supposed to determine its limits. Homo is “the taxon including the type species Homo sapiens that is assigned to the rank of genus”. However, there is no “genus concept” (analogous to a species concept), and thus no way of empirically determining the limits of a particular genus, even in the context of a single agreed phylogeny. The same problems also apply to higher taxa at all other ranks under current codes, leading to great taxonomic instability. All proposed objective criteria for determining membership of taxa at a particular rank (e.g., geological age, genetic divergence) are shown to be problematic. In contrast, the clades named by phylogenetic definitions are objective and stable. Node−based and branchbased definitions are most precise; however, apomorphybased definitions can be ambiguous due to difficulty in defining alternative character states, and optimisation uncertainty. A major benefit of ranks (information about relative nesting of taxa) can be achieved even more efficiently using standardised but rankless suffixes already widely used in phylogenetic taxonomy. Finally, in situations where the phylogeny is poorly known, phylogenetic nomenclature appears to be superior to the Linnean system. Phylogenetic nomenclature does not force one to officially name poorly corroborated groupings, whereas Linnean codes compel users to erect and name genera even when relevant supraspecific relationships are poorly known.
