Opis:: This question has entered to history of the European culture not only in the version of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle, but also as Pilate’s question. However, is this question every time about the same? Or is its intellectual version, which we deal with in philosophy, equivalent with the religious formula? Ancient philosophers, such as Descartes or Aristotle have already studied the question of truth. Truth is not an issue completely clear for man. Despite so many clear definitions, it does not give us full form of the notion of truth. All these centuries various inquires did not give us any answers. Every of definitions of truth shows us how to act, and according to which rules. We can agree on the classic definition of truth or reject it.

Opis:: The paper discusses the issue of the intellectual historian’s attitude to the subject of his research, especially if it takes the form of an intellectual conflict or controversy. It is a critical analysis of the possibility of assuming an objective attitude towards one’s own research: without any valuation. Based on Aristotle’s remarks on rhetoric, the author shows that the presentation of research results in writing is linked to taking a position towards them and giving them a place and meaning in the context of broader reasoning, which is synonymous with the operation of evaluation. The empirical context of the presented argument is provided by a self-analytical case study: the author’s research on Catholic modernism in Poland. Reflecting on it, the author points to another source of the impossibility of objectivity, hidden in the hermeneutic method of research. Gadamer’s postulate of writing history again and again for the sake of the changing historical context leads to a strong emphasis of the worldview of researchers themselves in their studies.

Opis:: Szkic ukazuje, w jaki sposób autorska metoda kerygmatycznej interpretacji, zaproponowana przez Mariana Maciejewskiego, określiła warsztat i praktykę badawczą uczonego. Bohater artykułu został przedstawiony jako historyk literatury, dokonujący kerygmatycznej egzegezy tekstów romantycznych (liryki i epiki), który kontynuując dialog z tradycją badań, proponuje nowe spojrzenie na zjawiska literackie, wykorzystując paradygmat kerygmatu apostolskiego (ewangelicznego). Takie ujęcie literatury eksponuje historię ludzką, mocniej akcentuje kompleks najgłębszych doświadczeń egzystencjalnych osób mówiących (podmiotu, narratora) czy bohaterów; jednocześnie daje możliwość pełniejszego opisu głębokiej struktury utworu. Troską uczonego jest usytuowanie zjawisk literatury wobec rzeczywistości Słowa proklamowanego przez Ewangelię. Praktyka badawcza Mariana Maciejewskiego została tu ukazana jako forma pewnego świadectwa wierności wobec Słowa.
The sketch shows the way, in which the author's method of kerygmatic interpretation suggested by Marian Maciejewski has defined the workshop and research practice of a scholar. The protagonist of the article is presented as a historian of literature practicing the kerygmatic exegesis of Romantic texts (lyric and narrative ones), who, while continuing his dialog with the tradition of research, suggests a new look at literary phenomena, using the paradigm of the apostolic (evangelical) kerygma. Such an approach to literature exhibits the human history and emphasizes the complex of existential experiences of the persons speaking (the lyrical subject, the narrator) or of the protagonists; at the same time it makes it possible to describe more fully the deep structure of the work. The scholar's concern is locating the phenomena of literature against the reality of the Word proclaimed by the Gospel. Marian Maciejewski's practice of research is presented here as a form of a certain testimony of his faithfulness to the Word.

Opis:: This article argues that, strictly speaking, from its inception with the ancient Greeks and for all time, philosophy and science are identical and consist in an essential relationship between a specific type of understanding of the human person as possessed of an intellectual soul capable of being habituated and a psychologically-independent composite whole, or organization. It maintains, further, that absence of either one of the extremes of this essential relationship cannot be philosophy/science and, if mistaken for such and applied to the workings of cultural institutions, will generate anarchy within human culture and make leadership excellence impossible to achieve. Finally, it argues that only a return to this “common sense” understanding of philosophy can generate the leadership excellence that can save the West from its current state of cultural and civilizational anarchy.

Opis:: Since most pressing today on a global scale is to be able to unite religion, philosophy, and science into parts of a coherent civilizational whole, and since the ability to unite a multitude into parts of a coherent whole essentially requires understanding the natures of the things and the way they can or cannot be essentially related, this paper chiefly considers precisely why the modern world has been unable to effect this union. In so doing, it argues that the chief cause of this inability to unite these cultural natures has been because the contemporary world, and the West especially, has lost its understanding of philosophy and science and has intentionally divorced from essential connection to wisdom. Finally, it proposes a common sense way properly to understand these natures, reunite them to wisdom, and revive Western and global civilization.
