    The aim of this article is to demonstrate the differences appearing in French and Italian scientific texts and their translations into Polish. The specificity of the scientific text causes enormous difficulties faced by novice translators. On the one hand, one must faithfully reflect the merits of work, and, on the other hand, take care of the appropriate style of the target text. As Stanisław Gajda [1982] states, each discipline produces a completely separate language termed “scientific sublanguage”, and the basic difficulty in the case of translation by people not familiar with the scientific language seems to be the recreation of the specific nature of the scientific language of the source text in the target text. The multidimensionality and interdisciplinary nature of scientific translation should also be considered because only on the basis of interdisciplinary knowledge can the translator choose the appropriate translation strategy.

    This article analyzes typical problems that arise when translating scientific and technical texts in the field of geodesy from the Russian language into Ukrainian. The analysis of complex cases that appear in the process of translation of scientific texts gives us grounds to assert that their distribution into lexical and grammatical aspects is rather conditional, since in each language, including Ukrainian, the grammatical is combined with the lexical, and transmission methods in the translation of grammatical forms and structures often depends on their lexical content. The ways of overcoming these problems are suggested, which will contribute to the process of affirming in the scientific style specific traditions, inherent in the Ukrainian language, both at the lexical and grammatical levels. These traditions have taken the back seat under the influence of a long period of the Russian language dominating in the field of science.

    This work describes specific morphological and syntactic features of Ukrainian scientific and technical speech in the context of the appearance of non-substantiated norms of the literary Ukrainian language of passive verbal constructions, and provides adequate methods for the translation of passive constructions from Russian into Ukrainian. The most common mistakes are found in the translation from the Russian language into Ukrainian syntactic constructions with passive verb forms, the causes for the appearance of these false constuctions are analyzed, and their inexpedient use is justified, as well as the need to use specific Ukrainian constructions when translating from Russian passive verbal constructions to the Ukrainian language.

    Opis:
    The subject of analysis in this article is the translation of David Lodge’s campus novels into Polish and Russian. The first two parts of his trilogy were chosen for analysis, namely Changing Places and Small World. University novels, typical primarily for English and American cultural space, have their own linguistic and genre specifics. Their authors are most often academic teachers; they also act as the main characters. No Wonder elements of scientific discourse appear on the pages of the novel and cultural elements related to the realities of University life, which are a challenge for translators.
    Предметом анализа в настоящей статье являются польский и русский переводы университетских романов Дэвида Лоджа. В качестве материала для анализа были использованы две первые части его трилогии – Changing Places и Small World. Университетские романы типичны прежде всего для англо-американского культурного пространства. Они обладают своей языковой и жанровой спецификой. Авторами этих романов являются, как правило, университетские преподаватели, они же выступают в роли главных героев. Ничего тогда удивительного в том, что на страницах данного типа произведений появляются элементы научного дискурса, а также культурные элементы, связанные с университетской жизнью, являющиеся, как правило, большим вызовом для переводчиков.
    Przedmiotem analizy w niniejszym artykule są tłumaczenia powieści uniwersyteckich Davida Lodge’a na język polski i rosyjski. W charakterze materiału do analizy wybrano dwie pierwsze części jego trylogii, a mianowicie Changing Places i Small World. Powieści uniwersyteckie są typowe przede wszystkim dla angielskiej i amerykańskiej przestrzeni kulturowej, mają swoją specyfikę językową i gatunkową. Ich autorami są najczęściej nauczyciele akademiccy, oni też występują w charakterze głównych bohaterów. Nic więc dziwnego, że na kartach powieści pojawiają się elementy dyskursu naukowego oraz elementy kulturowe związane z realiami życia uniwersyteckiego, które stanowią wyzwanie dla tłumaczy.

    Speaking about Belarusian literature in Poland we focus on fiction, its translation into Polish and the study of literature. The existence of the Belarusian literature in Poland in the post-war period is indicated by the following bibliographies: a bibliography of translations for the period 1945–1994 (G. Charytoniuk, Literatura białoruska w Polsce. Bibliografia przekładów za lata 1945–1994, Białystok 1996) and a subject bibliography for the period 1945–1998 (G. Charytoniuk, Polskie białorutenika literackie. Bibliografia przedmiotowa 1945–1998, Białystok 1998). The new political, economical and social conditions in Poland after 1989 have had an influence on the situation of the Belarusian literature. In addition to the existing departments some new university departments and scientific branches have been organized. Their aim is to realize new scientific projects connected with the Belarusian literature in Poland and Belarus. A lot of nongovernment organizations (funds, partnerships, associations) have been organized not only in Bialystok region, but also in the other parts of the country. A new publishing market has been established which has focused on the modern literature of Central and Eastern Europe including Belarusian literature. The Internet also plays an important role in popularization of the Belarusian literature. That literature has been included in the database of the National library (Przewodnik Bibliograficzny, Bibliografia Zawartości Czasopism), regional libraries (Bibliografia województwa podlaskiego) and the digital library (Polska Bibliografia Literacka). The information is searched by institutional scientific depositories and digital libraries. The considerable part of the information has not been registered in the bibliographic database. In this situation it is necessary to develop an integral literature bibliographic database of the Belarusian literature in Poland.
    Kiedy się mówi o literaturze białoruskiej w Polsce, trzeba mieć na uwadze literaturę piękną, jej przekłady na język polski i literaturę przedmiotu. O obecności literatury białoruskiej w Polsce powojennej świadczą bibliografie: przekładów obejmująca lata 1945-1994 (G. Charytoniuk, Literatura białoruska w Polsce. Bibliografia przekładów za lata 1945-1994, Białystok 1996) i przedmiotowa lat 1945-1998 (G. Charytoniuk, Polskie białorutenika literackie. Bibliografia przedmiotowa 1945-1998, Białystok 1998). Nowe warunki polityczne, społeczne i ekonomiczne w Polsce po 1989 roku wpłynęły i na sytuację literatury białoruskiej. Pojawiły się nowe uniwersyteckie katedry i zakłady naukowe. Realizują one projekty badawcze uwzględniające literaturę białoruską w Polsce i na Białorusi. Powstały liczne organizacje pozarządowe (fundacje, towarzystwa i stowarzyszenia) nie tylko na Białostocczyźnie, ale i w innych miejscach w kraju. Utworzył się nowy rynek wydawniczy, który zwrócił uwagę i na współczesną literaturę krajów Europy Środkowej i Wschodniej, w tym białoruską. Ważną rolę w popularyzacji literatury białoruskiej pełni Internet. Literatura ta jest rejestrowana przez bibliografię narodową (Przewodnik Bibliograficzny, Bibliografia Zawartości Czasopism) i regionalną (Bibliografię Województwa Podlaskiego). Wyszukiwanie informacji ułatwiają instytucjonalne repozytoria naukowe i biblioteki cyfrowe. Znaczna część dokumentów pozostaje jednak poza rejestracją bibliograficzną. Pojawia się więc potrzeba stworzenia bazy literackiej dotyczącej literatury białoruskiej w Polsce, która dążyłaby do kompletności bibliograficznej.
