Opis:
The first Salesian who on 12th August, 1945 started a pastoral service in the Parish of the Holy Trinity in Czaplinek was Rev. Bernard Zawada. During the period of 68 years, there were 12 parish priests belonging to the Salesian Congregation. Since 1947 there have been 70 priests among the support personnel, 26 of whom have already passed away. There were also 25 assistant seminarians who helped the priests in their pastoral care. There were also two coadjutors in the parish. Apart from the parish church the priests also served in 9 nearby churches. Two of them were built by the Salesians on the ruins of old churches. After the separation from the parent parish and the constitution of three new parishes, there remain now two churches to serve which are located within the town: the parish church of the Holy Trinity and an auxiliary church of the Exaltation of the Cross. There is also an active oratory and 10 different parish communities.

Rev. Bronislaw Szymański, a Salesian priest,  following the indications of the Second Vatican Council, screened religious films in Polish parishes in the years 1965-1988. He was a complete amateur in that area. In the case of foreign films (Italian or English-speaking), it was necessary to translate the texts into Polish. Within 23 years, he presented 11 religious films in over 2.5 thousand projections, which were watched by nearly two million viewers. Those projections were performed mainly in parishes, monasteries and nunneries, seminaries, and for the communities of other faiths. Rev. Szymański was also an experienced and sought-after preacher. In the years 1959-2002 he conducted a 19 one-week retreats for the Salesians and 92 parish retreats for the faithful.

Opis:
The history of the martyrdom of the Polish Roman Catholic clergy is still being researched. The present article refers to the content of one of the sources presenting the life in KL Dachau, where the largest number of clergy were imprisoned during the whole World War II. The source is a personal notebook authored by a member of the Society of St Francis de Sales, a seminarist Wiktor Jacewicz. He managed to survive a period of five years in Dachau. In his notes, we can find a description of different elements from the daily life of the concentration camp in Dachau such as prayer, sacraments, work, study, correspondence and sports. The source is a valuable contribution to our knowledge about the reality of life in KL Dachau.

Opis:
The Metropolitan Archbihop of Lviv of the Latin Rite Bolesław Twardowski (1854- 1944) was the founder and the initiator of the construction of the Church of Our Lady of Ostra Brama in the district of Lviv - Górny Łyczaków. The votive church dedicated to the Mother of Mercy was to be a symbol of gratitude for the return of Lviv and Eastern Galicia to their homeland after years of captivity. Started in 1931, the construction of the church was completed and on 7 October 1934, Archbishop Twardowski consecrated it. After that ceremony, at the residence of the archbishop the votive church was given to the Salesians of the Province of St. Jack in Cracow. The Church of Our Lady of Ostra Brama was a rectoral church in the parish of St. Anthony where the Salesians carried out pastoral ministry until 4 June 1946. In 1989, the church was taken over by the Salesians of the Byzantine-Ukrainian Rite where in 1992, the parish of the Protection of Our Most Holy Lady Theotokos (Pokrov) was erected.

Opis:
During the night of 25th to 26th of September 1953, at the same time when Stefan Wyszyński the Primate of Poland, a Salesian bishop Antoni Baraniak SDB, was arrested. One of the Cardinal’s closest co-workers was imprisoned for three years at a detention centre in Mokotów district in Warsaw where he was brutally interrogated and subjected to physical and psychological torture. He was, among others, interrogated 145 times sometimes even for several hours in a row. He had his fingernails pulled out and was often held for many days naked in a freezing cold cell full of faeces. In spite of cruel tortures he never broke down and did not testify against the Primate which was the main goal of the communist authorities. If they had received any information related with Stefan Wyszyński’s pastoral activity, they would have been able to sue him and accuse of high treason and a counter-revolutionary initiatives. In the state of physical exhaustion, bishop Baraniak was later transferred to a Salesian house in Marszałki near Ostrzeszów in Poland and subjected to house arrest. He stayed there from December 29th, 1955 to April 1rd, 1556. From Marszałki the bishop went to sanatorium in Krynica where he managed to improve his health condition ruined by the period of imprisonment. The article deals with the Salesians’ concern about bishop Antoni Baraniak during his internment in Marszałki.
