This paper presents a method of measuring deformations in the contact between flat surfaces and a way of estimating the shares of elastic and plastic deformations in the total contact deformations. Experiments showed that the share of plastic deformations in the total contact deformations varied depending on the strength parameters of the specimens and the roughness parameters of the contacting surfaces, amounting to a few per cent and to 37% for respectively steel specimens and specimens made of aluminium alloy AW5754. A strategy for estimating all the deformation components for the tested specimen types and the kinds of machining is presented.

This paper describes a the effect of storage time on selected mechanical properties of potatoes, method for determining the impact strength and dynamic shear strength of potatoes on a test stand designed by the authors. The results of preliminary tests examining the effect of storage time on the average impact bending strength and shear strength values of potatoes cv. Irga are also presented. The above parameters and changes in their values during storage time have to be determined to support the optimization of technological processes in the food processing industry, including the production of French fries and potato chips.

The main aim of this article is to develop mathematical equations of the performance stream (Vc) of a water ram with regard to the height of water delivery (hc). The study was performed on the sample water ram of my own design mounted on a specially designed test stand. The content of the article is divided into two parts. The first part describes a generalized equation on the base formulae used historically to determine the performance of the water ram. The second part presents the results of research and summarizes the mathematical equations determining the streams performance (Vc) according to the height of water delivery (hc). In conclusion the article makes interpretations of the results. The motivation to approach these issues stems from the question: How much will the performance of the water ram has on the ability to set a receiver tank at different heights?

Gears used for the tests may be made of metal or plastic [1, 2, 5]. The stand has been designed in an open system and it is powered by a three-phase electric motor. The control is provided by a single-phase inverter with three outputs, which provides full speed control. All components have been installed on a table equipped with T-slots in order to determine the optimal position of the drive and the tested gear. The load of the stand is realized by an electromagnetic powder brake. Load torque of the gear depends on the supplied current. During the test, you can change settings such as speed or load torque. Torque meters installed on input and output of the demonstrator let you control the work of the whole gear. Values supplied by the torque meters (torque and speed) are recorded on a computer in real time (according to PC RTC) and archived by specialized software. The software installed on your computer allows you to view results of the measurements. The possibility to control working time lets you precisely define the time intervals of various stages of the research. Using timer makes it possible to observe the current consumption of the transmission and helps to establish the research process. Thanks to data, recording you will know when the gear is damaged. Tests at this stand allow for obtaining stable working parameters, and thus for obtaining not distorted, accurate results of the demonstrator operation. Changing the gear is exceptionally simple because of the use of sliding splined connections of the couplings. Separating couplings between which the gear is situated and unlocking, the terminal allows exchanging it.

The purpose of this publication is to present the construction and adaptation of the test stand intended for motorcycle simulation research. The stand is designed to study the impact of motorcycle vibrations that act on the body of the driver and passenger. Motorcycles belong to one of the types of transport that directly affects users. Excessive vibrations transmitted to the body of the driver and passenger can make driving uncomfortable and even dangerous. The vibrations of motorcycles depend mainly on the technical condition of the vehicle, the structure of the vehicle, and the construction of the engine. The stand was built on the basis of a hydraulic power supply unit, distributor, and electrohydraulic pulsators. The purpose of the construction of the stand is to examine a given group of motorcycles to learn and eliminate vibrations that occur in various areas of motorcycles and affect the comfort, health, and safety of motorcycle travelers. Test studies of the presented stand are presented in this article. The preliminary results of the simulation tests determined the possibility of testing individual elements and motorcycles on the laboratory stand.

Article presents verification of LiFePO4 battery simulation model. Verification of battery model was made to assure real parameters of battery cells used for simulation. Simulation model of battery and test stand, similar to the stand used for test on a real battery, was designed in AMESim software. Data of the battery and single cell of battery characteristics were verified to assure true parameters for further tests of power transmission system of the vehicle. For verification theoretical model of the battery, real tests of battery discharging were performed in laboratory. Test stand used for battery discharging was build. Test stand was equipped in water resistor enable to set up various loads of battery. Electrical parameters of battery and battery cell were collected by voltage probes and current clamps and stored in database. Test was performed in similar condition, each time starting with fully loaded battery. Tests ends when battery management system shut down battery main switch. Tests conditions, virtual and real, were performed during similar battery load. Comparing data from unloading tests in laboratory enable to verify data of battery and battery cells designed in AMESim software. Such verification provide reliable model of the used battery. Model of the battery can be used in further simulation test of vehicle, where battery is installed.

Magnetorheological elastomers have properties that can be altered by magnetic field. Many materials were invented more than 30 years ago, but their development and improvement over the past three decades has led to new, more varied uses of these adaptable materials. The main goal of the paper is to present and investigate the application of a magnetorheological elastomer in an aviation structure. The potential advantage of this solution is a possibility to adjust the shape of the wing during the flight by altering the magnetic field strength, which in turn causes deflection of a magnetorheological elastomer. For the purpose of the investigations, an E214 aerofoil has been selected. The original, carbon composite model set a reference value of both lift and drag coefficient for an E214 profile. A thin layer of magnetorheological elastomer was placed on the upper side of the reversed wing. In order to fully understand the effect of such structural change on an aerial profile, the new research stand was designed and manufactured for the purpose of this research in the Institute of Aviation. Experiments were conducted due to evaluate the influence of magnetorheological elastomer on the overall performance. Results of investigations were presented and discussed.

Article presents the energetic balance of small-unmanned vehicle hybrid power transmission. The vehicle equipped with series hybrid transmission consisted of electric engines connected to the battery pack and small Diesel power generator. In mentioned construction, battery is used as energy buffer and combustion engine is used more as emergency power supply, and is turned on when battery is depleted. In other condition, power generator can be turned off, without reducing power of transmission parameters, except its range. Investigation was divided on two stages. At first stage generator, charging unit and battery were placed outside the vehicle. One piston power generator was feed by Diesel fuel. Fuel consumption of power generator was recorded from AVL fuel balance and energy parameters were recorded by power line analyser of BMR Company. Generator was connected to the direct current power plant. 70 Ah and 48 DC Lithium-polymer battery was charged from the power plant. After charging cycle, small water resistor was used to discharge the battery. Power parameters of discharged battery were measured. This enable to measure balance form tank to the battery. Second stage of the energetic balance determination was to measure internal resistances of vehicle power transmission from current inverter/converter connected to the engine and through the transmission up to the wheels of the vehicle. Power loss of energy at different speed of vehicle wheels without ground contact was measured in respect of power consumption. The series hybrid transmission is consider less efficient than parallel but because of specific configuration of power transmission, it was possible to reach higher efficiency

The article discusses assumptions for a prototype test stand designed for testing rotors in the conditions of work at their nominal speed, in particular gyrocopter and helicopter rotors. In the work presents an overview of similar solutions of test stand presented in the available literature and solutions proposed by companies, such as Swangate International or Luftfahrttechnik GmbH. Beyond these solutions the article also contains test stand used so far at the Institute of Aviation, these solutions were prepared for testing one type of rotor (for example: only for gyroplane rotors). The article provides the steps of designing a new test stand, which one of the basic assumptions is that it will be a universal test stand, giving the possibility to test different types of rotors. The article discusses two concepts of the stand with electric engine as a drive, gives the advantages and disadvantages of each concept, and indicates the selected solution. In addition to design and applied drive solution of the stand, the measuring part and data acquisition were also discussed. Moreover, the article focus on the advantages of rotor testing using the presented solution, as well as problems encountered during tests, in particular related to construction free vibrations and resonance. Vibration and resonance of the test stand are very important aspect of the entire design process, because it affects the quality and safety of the tests.

W artykule opisano możliwości zastosowania technologii Rapid Prototyping w procesie projektowania i budowy specjalistycznego stanowiska badawczego do obrazowania w podczerwieni procesu skrawania ceramiki cyrkonowej, stosowanej w protetyce stomatologicznej. Opisano technologię FDM, wymagania dotyczące charakteru badań naukowych prowadzonych na projektowanym stanowisku oraz koncepcję budowy. Przedstawiono sposób realizacji budowy stanowiska, uwzględniający specyficzne wymagania dotyczące badań na stanowisku znajdującym się w gabinecie stomatologicznym. Pokazano modele CAD 3D wybranych części oraz prototyp stanowiska.
This study examined possibilities of using Rapid Prototyping technology in the design and construction of specialized test stand for infrared imaging of dental zirconia’s ceramic samples. The FDM technology, requirements for carrying out research and a test stand idea is described. The realization of the test stand is presented taking into account the specific research requirements using test stand installed in the dental office. The 3D CAD models and the prototype test stand is presented.

In this article authors present force measurement method based on strain gauge measuring system installed inside pin, which is a part of light helicopter Main Landing Gear Shock Absorber. Strain gauges in full bridge configuration were installed inside the mounting pin (upper one – fuselage side). Placement and type of strain gauges were selected during the preliminary tests, which verified the validity and conditions of the force measurement. Preliminary tests allowed verification and selection of an optimal measurement system by testing two types of them. The impact on force according to the angle of force vector direction was also verified. Preliminary tests of the strain gauges equipped pin were performed using quasistatic tests stand – 40 T hydraulic press for applying force acting on shock absorber and pin. Whole measuring system is planned to be used in real time analysis of shock absorber force acting on fuselage mounting node. The strain gauges allows measurement of force in any place of the structure, the article presents the advantages of the system located inside pin. Additionally, the installation technologies of strain gauges in hard-to-reach places are presented. The article is summed up with an analysis of the problems, which arise during the installation and measurement process using strain gauges installed in such a specific place.

In the paper a model test stand designed and built using original components of diesel engine 4CT90 is presented. The stand provides working conditions as close as possible to the exploitation conditions of the engine cooling system. This applies both to the intensity of heat inside the cylinders of the engine, the temperature uniformity along the cylinder axis, as well as variable-speed water pump. Research carried out on the model stand were aimed at checking the operation of the cooling intensity control with varying levels of filling of the cooling system and develop a control method of the cooling system before testing on the dynamometer stand. In addition, system operation at elevated cooling liquid pressure for the possibility of obtaining the elevated coolant temperature were checked. The influence of working conditions on the level of the temperature was also analysed. In this paper, the characteristics selected for two values of pressure, for 0.15 MPa and 0.2 MPa, and for two different values of the degree of filling of the cooling liquid were presented. During the warming-up and continuous heating of the cylinder and the cylinder head by electrical heaters, temperature and overpressure courses before and after the liquid radiator, temperature before the inlet and outlet of the liquid from the engine and the temperature at selected points inside the engine water jacket are designated. The results of measurements of the coolant pump flow at different speed water pump were also presented in this paper.

In the article, the problems of selected failures that may occur during operation of positive displacement compressors and possible reasons for their occurrence were described. It also included methods for checking performance and diagnostics, with particular emphasis on research using an electronic indicator. Possible mechanical damages of air compressors for various applications have also been characterized. Non-destructive diagnostic methods were described to detect and diagnose damage, taking into account their suitability and limitations in their application. In the further part of the article selected tests results of air compressor, specially adapted to simulation of failures were presented. The test stand has been equipped with sensors for measuring the pressure and temperature of the compressed gas and the sensor of the angular position of the compressor shaft, allowing examining the impact of damage on compressor working parameters. The result of the research was to compare the compressor indicator diagrams in the operational condition, with the simulated failure, and between different failures and to learn the changes of processes taking place inside the cylinder during the compressor’s work cycle. All the test results could be observed in real time, besides the diagnostic software, supporting the tests, made it possible to record measurements. In the described software, it is possible to compare the courses for different cases, to then make a comparative analysis of the results obtained in the state of functional and simulated disability.

In dynamic tests, especially landing gears, it is necessary to measure and record load levels. In this article, authors present measurement methods used in the landing gear tests on the 10-Ton Drop Test Machine, which is capable of simulating conditions similar to real landing in landing energy dissipation tests. Possible test objects include dampers, shock absorbers, and crash structures and devices. In described case load measurement can be done by several methods where one of them is strain-gauge plate based load measurement. This type of measurement is weighting system under the test object where all forces acting on it are measured. Strain gauge plate is usually tailormade measurement system, which is composed out of mechanical device (plate itself) equipped with strain gauge force sensors, strain gauge amplification system and recording system. In addition, differences between static and dynamic measurements are described as well as influence of dynamic test conditions on strain gauges behaviour. In the article, authors describe general layout of the system, advantages and disadvantages of the test stand and problems that may appear during measuring. Authors also emphasize how the accuracy of the design affects to the quality of measurement. At the end of the article, advantages and disadvantages of the test stand and problems that may appear during measuring are described.

The paper deals with the project of an electric motor with permanent magnets flux control for cars. One of the aims of this project is to test the prototype machine. According to the assumptions, this machine should have a high efficiency throughout the motor speed range and load. At the same time it should have a high starting torque and the ability to easy control of the speed of nearly 10,000 rpm. Testing of the prototype machine with such requirements means considerable demands on the test equipment. For these reasons, it was decided to build a new test stand with computer measuring system and high speed asynchronous motor fed regenerative inverter. The control of the test stand is based on the sb-RIO controller, and for measurement data acquisition system shall be responsible PXI modular systems both from National Instruments. All components of the test stand and their functions have also been described.
W pracy przedstawiono problematykę badań silnika elektrycznego z regulacją strumienia magnesów trwałych do napędu samochodów. Celem realizowanego projektu, oprócz analizy teoretycznej i budowy silnika, jest przeprowadzenie kompleksowych badań prototypu. W założeniach maszyna ta powinna charakteryzować się wysoką sprawnością w całym zakresie prędkości obrotowych i obciążeń, a jednocześnie powinna posiadać duży moment rozruchowy i zdolność łatwej regulacji prędkości obrotowej do wartości 10000 obrotów/min. Przebadanie prototypu maszyny o tak zdefiniowanych wymaganiach wymaga zastosowania odpowiedniej aparatury. Z tych względów zbudowano od podstaw nowe stanowisko badawcze z komputerowym systemem pomiarowym, w którym zastosowano, jako jednostkę napędową, wysokoobrotowy silnik asynchroniczny kontrolowany przez regeneracyjny przemiennik częstotliwości ze sterowaniem DTC firmy ABB. Sterowanie pracą stanowiska oparte zostało na kontrolerze sb-RIO, a za akwizycję danych pomiarowych odpowiada modułowy układ PXI - oba układy firmy National Instruments. W pracy przedstawiono wszystkie składniki tego stanowiska i omówiono ich działanie.
