- This article presents the experimental results of the impact of the minimum and maximum ambient temperature declared by the manufacturer on the operation of safety devices in medium pressure regulators with a capacity of up to $60 m^3//h$. The article describes the principle of operation of medium pressure regulators that are used to reduce the pressure in the device from 10 kPa to 0.5 MPa at the inlet to the outlet pressure of 1.3 kPa or 2.0 kPa depending on the value of gas pressure in installation. Selected testing methods aimed at checking the operation of safety devices at the minimum and maximum ambient temperatures have been characterized. The requirements for safety devices, as well as factory settings and the working temperature of medium pressure regulators selected for testing are described. Durability tests at minimum and maximum ambient temperature were carried out on selected samples. After each period of durability testing, safety devices have been checked, i.e.: the bleed valve which should operate in the pressure range: – 2.2±0.4 kPa for a pressure regulator with an outlet pressure of 1.3 kPa, – 3.3±0.5 kPa for a pressure regulator with an outlet pressure of 2.0 kPa; protection against pressure increase, which should work in the pressure range: – 3.2±0.4 kPa for a pressure regulator with an outlet pressure of 1.3 kPa, – 4.5±0.5 kPa for a pressure regulator with an outlet pressure of 2.0 kPa; protection against pressure drop that should work in the pressure range – 0.8±0.3 kPa for a pressure regulator with an outlet pressure of 1.3 kPa, – 1.3±0.3 kPa for a pressure regulator with an outlet pressure of 2.0 kPa; and internal tightness and closing pressure (the value of which should be ≤ 2.5 kPa for a regulator with an outlet pressure of 2.0 kPa) were checked. The laboratory tests were carried out on a test stand for medium pressure regulators in the Laboratory of Research Fittings and Operational Techniques for Pipelines at INiG – PIB. The results obtained in the tests were presented and discussed.
