remote sensing - Opis:
- At the end of the 60’s of the last century in the Institute of Geodesy and Cartography researches on the use of air photos for non-topographic purposes has been undertaken. In 1971 the Laboratory of Aerial Photointerpretation was set up. Its assignment was to use aerial photos made with different techniques, especially black and white as well as color infrared films to obtain information about the status and condition of the geographical environment. It should be mentioned that the Institute of Geodesy and Cartography received approval from the US authorities for the purchase of Kodak Aerochrome Infrared film and to use it for research purposes. Aerial color infrared photographs have been widely used to study the health status and sanitary conditions of pine stands. In 1974 the Laboratory was transformed into the Department of Interpretation of Aerial and Satellite Images. On the initiative of the Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography, supported by other ministries, and above all by the Central Office of Geology, the Presidium of Government adopted the decision No. 145/75 on the use satellite images and aerial photographs in managing the national economy. On the basis of this decision, at the beginning of 1976 Director of the Institute of Geodesy and Cartography set up within the Institute the National Remote Sensing Centre – OPOLiS.
