Dlatego istotną kwestią są działania zmierzające do uregulowania ich działalności. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie wybranych regulacji sektora oraz ocena czy obejmują one rynek w sposób wystarczający.
    Nowadays in digital age many financial institutions decide to cooperate with FinTech entities. Such decision allows them to create brand new products and improve those in their pipeline. However financial market is not always ready for such innovations. With scarce and vague regulations, FinTech sector is not always able to guarantee the safety of consumers’ fundsand FinTech entities may in the worst case scenario not be allowed to function on financial market. Therefore all actions leading to stable regulations are deemed especially important.The aim of this article is to present the chosen regulations of this sector and assess whether they are sufficient.

    Research background: The current changes in the global stock markets are related to the next wave of the industrial revolution ?Industry 4.0?. It is expected that the Industry 4.0 will lead to an acceleration of the innovation process and growth of volumes of tailor-made products. The stock markets started to react to the upcoming technological changes over the last decade, which are reflected by the changes in the composition of the major stock indices where the technological sector started to grow in importance. But innovations are not only connected with the specialized technological sector, but they are also of direct concern to the whole spectrum of economic entities. Besides the private investments that are usually allocated via the stock market, also the public sector investments play an important role. Purpose of the article: The aim of this paper is to investigate the relationship between government expenditures on research and development (R&D) and stock markets (and GDP) in the US and in Germany. Methods: We use the tools of descriptive analysis as well as correlation and regression methods of estimation. Findings & Value added: Our research confirms that the collection of data on R&D on annual basis for Germany and the US is insufficient for analytical and systemic management purposes. The real effects of investments in the R&D are time lagged. The regression analysis of annual data confirms only the statistical importance of patent applications as well as interest rate and stock index as independent variables in explanation of variability of real economy growth during the 1985?2017 period. Our model did not prove the significance of government expenditures. We can explain it, among others, by the fact that governments do not pay sufficient attention to the challenges yet, which are associated with the Industry 4.0, especially in the US, where the government expenditures in R&D gradually decrease. The governments in both economies try to increase their support, but fiscal sustainability is a limiting factor.

    Technology entrepreneurship focuses on transforming research and scientific potential into innovative goods and services. It is an interesting proposition for small and medium-sized enterprises planning to improve the competitive position based on advanced technology. Its use in economic practice faces certain limitations, arising both from the specifics of that category of entities and the external conditions of their operation. This article aims to identify and analyze of the incidence of barriers to technology entrepreneurship and to assess the impact of these negative factors on the development and benefits of using this concept in the SME sector companies. The survey conducted on a sample of 300 small and medium-sized enterprises from the region of Lodz aims at achieving the objective of the paper. The results allowed to determine the impact of selected barriers (considered by generic criterion and the direction of impact) on the level of development of technology entrepreneurship.

    In recent years heating in Poland has been transformed as a result of the priorities of the country's energy policy implemented within the European Union. The increase in energy security, the development of renewable energy sources and the fulfilment of legal and environmental requirements are very important. Exploitation of district heating systems should ensure reliable and safe heat supplies for industrial and municipal customers with high energy efficiency and reduction of environmental impact. The article discusses the conditions and directions of centralized heating systems development as well as technical and economic issues, which are important for the security of heat supply. The Author describes selected technological innovations used in the technical infrastructure for heat transfer and modern IT systems which are improving the management of heating systems. The article includes the results of simulation research with use of IT tools showing the impact of selected innovations on the improvement of network operation conditions. Directions of modernization of heating systems in the aspect of increasing energy efficiency and security of heat supply have also been indicted here.

    The article presents a method for the assessment of the implementation maturity of innovative technological solutions. The method in question constitutes a crucial support element for knowledge transformation and technology transfer processes. It can be used at different stages of innovation creation and enables a systemic evaluation of the implementation maturity and the practical application readiness of new technologies. When used for the evaluation of newly created innovative products, the method improves a country’s innovation performance and boosts the level of its competitiveness, because it constitutes an effective system for the monitoring of the implementation of the results of research into practice. The advantages of the method in question have been proved by numerous practical applications of products stemming from R&D undertakings.
    W artykule zaprezentowano metodę oceny stopnia dojrzałości wdrożeniowej (SDW) innowacyjnych rozwiązań technicznych opracowaną w ramach Programu Strategicznego pt. „Innowacyjne systemy wspomagania technicznego zrównoważonego rozwoju gospodarki”. Opracowane narzędzie stanowi istotny element wspomagania procesów transformacji wiedzy i transferu zaawansowanych technologii procesowych i produktowych w obszarze wytwarzania oraz eksploatacji maszyn i urządzeń technicznych. Metoda SDW jest przydatna na różnych etapach powstawania innowacji, głównie poprzez ewaluację rozwiązań z ukierunkowaniem na ich dojrzałość wdrożeniową oraz potencjał aplikacyjny. Wykorzystanie metody do oceny powstających rozwiązań przyczynia się do wzrostu innowacyjności i konkurencyjności gospodarki poprzez bardziej efektywną kontrolę procesu wdrażania wyników badań naukowych do zastosowań praktycznych. Walory metody SDW zostały po-twierdzone w kolejnych aplikacjach, m.in. do oceny rozwiązań innowacyjnych związanych z zastosowaniem zaawansowanych technologii warstwy wierzchniej w przemyśle.

    Plan budowy w Polsce elektrowni atomowych jest wyzwaniem nie tylko w wymiarze technologicznym czy inwestycyjnym, ale także społecznym. Związany jest z kontrowersjami o charakterze politycznym, gospodarczym, kulturowym i ideologicznym. Przygotowywanie Programu Polskiej Energetyki Jądrowej, rozpoczęte przez rząd w 2009 roku, stanowi zatem istotne wyzwanie z zarządzania zmianą społeczno-technologiczną. Celem artykułu jest spojrzenie na realizację programu jądrowego z perspektywy nurtu społecznego współzarządzania technologią (technology governance), którego główny element stanowi system oceny technologii (technology assessment). Zadaniem systemu oceny technologii jest umożliwienie przeprowadzenia kompleksowej, wielowymiarowej ewaluacji wdrażanych innowacji technologicznych (szczególnie tych wywołujących kontrowersje społeczne), uwzględniającej interesy i opinie różnych grup społecznych. Głównym problemem jest pytanie o to, jaki model oceny technologii wykorzystywany jest przy realizacji Programu Polskiej Energetyki Jądrowej. W pierwszej części artykułu zaprezentowane zostały kontekst technology governance i główne modele oceny technologii: od eksperckiego do partycypacyjnego; w drugiej części zastosowano te narzędzia do analizy sposobu wdrażania w Polsce energetyki jądrowej.
    Introducing nuclear power to the Polish energy system faces controversies of a political, economic, cultural and ideological nature. Implementation of the Polish Nuclear Power Programme, launched by the Polish government in 2009, is therefore a major challenge in the area of public participation in the decision-making process. The purpose of this article is to provide an insight into the nuclear programme implementation from the perspective of technology governance, with a special focus on the applied technology assessment procedures. The main questions of the article are: which model of technology assessment has been used in decision-making practice in the field of development of Polish nuclear energy? How is the public participation in decision-making and evaluation of risks and chances of nuclear energy present in this process? In the first part of the article the perspective of technology governance and models of technology assessment have been presented. The second part consists of an empirical analysis of the nuclear energy development in Poland from the point of view of technology assessment.

    Technological innovations are becoming a truly global phenomenon in the course of the twentieth first century. The article draws attention to the issue of sponsorship of two innovative projects dedicated to classical music – The Met Live in HD movie-theatre transmissions and Digital Concert Hall concerts on demand. The text shows how NGOs and commercial companies have been supporting the projects. The analysis includes all supporters. These are, respectively, Bloomberg, Toll Brothers and The Neubauer Family Foundation for The Met, and Sony and Deutsche Bank for Berliner Philharmoniker. Case study was chosen as the research method. The analysis revealed flexibility between the patterns of sponsorship and patronage, as well as absence of CSR term within campanies’ self-descriptions, except Deutsche Bank case.

"Doskonalenie systemów rozwoju innowacyjności w produkcji i eksploatacji w latach 2004-2008". Opracowane narzędzie stanowi istotny element wspomagania procesów transformacji wiedzy i transferu zaawansowanych technologii procesowych i produktowych w obszarze wytwarzania oraz eksploatacji maszyn i urządzeń technicznych. Metoda SDW jest przydatna na różnych etapach powstawania innowacji, głównie poprzez ewaluację rozwiązań z ukierunkowaniem na ich dojrzałość wdrożeniową oraz potencjał aplikacyjny. Wykorzystanie metody do oceny powstających rozwiązań przyczynia się do wzrostu innowacyjności i konkurencyjności gospodarki poprzez bardziej efektywną kontrolę procesu wdrażania wyników badań naukowych do zastosowań praktycznych. Walory metody SDW zostały potwierdzone w kolejnych aplikacjach, m.in. do oceny rozwiązań innowacyjnych związanych z zastosowaniem zaawansowanych technologii warstwy wierzchniej w przemyśle.
    This article presents a method of conducting the implementation maturity assessment of innovative technological solutions, which has been devised within the Targeted Research Project 'Development of Knowledge Transformation and Technology Transfer Methods' and later verified through the evaluation of the 280 innovative solutions resulting from the PW-004 Multi-year Programme 'Development of Innovative Systems of Manufacturing and Maintenance 2004-2008. The method devised is a crucial support element of the knowledge transformation and transfer of advanced process and product technologies within the manufacturing and maintenance of the technological machines and devices. It can be used at different stages of innovation creation, mainly through systems evaluation focused on their implementation maturity and practical application potential. When used for the evaluation of newly created systems, the method results in the development of the innovation and competitiveness of economy, because it constitutes a more effective monitoring system over the implementation of the results of scientific research into practice. The advantages of the method of conducting technology implementation maturity assessment have been proven in practical applications, i.e. the evaluation of innovative systems connected with the use of the advanced surface engineering technologies in industry.

    The paper presents a supporting system for assessing the degree of implementation maturity (SDW) of innovative technical solutions, developed under the Strategic Programme: “Innovative technical support system for sustainable economic development.” The system was verified in the course of the assessment of more than 170 innovative solutions arising as a result of Strategic Plan: “Innovative technical support system for sustainable economic development” executed at the Institute for Sustainable Technologies – National Research Institute in Radom. The developed tool is an important element supporting the processes of the transformation of knowledge and transfer of advanced process and products technologies in the area of production and operation of machines and equipment. The verification confirmed the usefulness of the method and system for evaluating the application potential at various stages of the development of innovative solutions. The use of the method allows more effective control of the implementation of research results into practical applications contributing to a boost of innovation and competitiveness of the economy. The effectiveness of SDW assessment system was confirmed in subsequent applications, including an application for the assessment of innovative solutions for SMEs and innovative activities undertaken by industrial and technological parks.
    W artykule zaprezentowano system wspomagający ocenę stopnia dojrzałości wdrożeniowej (SDW) innowacyjnych rozwiązań technicznych, opracowany w ramach Programu Strategicznego pn. „Innowacyjne systemy wspomagania technicznego zrównoważonego rozwoju gospodarki”. Działanie systemu zweryfikowano w trakcie oceny ponad 170 innowacyjnych rozwiązań będących rezultatem Programu Strategicznego pn. „Innowacyjne systemy wspomagania technicznego zrównoważonego rozwoju gospodarki” realizowanego w Instytucie Technologii Eksploatacji – Państwowym Instytucie Badawczym w Radomiu. Opracowane narzędzie stanowi istotny element wspomagania procesów transformacji wiedzy i transferu zaawansowanych technologii procesowych i produktowych w obszarze wytwarzania oraz eksploatacji maszyn i urządzeń technicznych. Weryfikacja potwierdziła przydatność metody i systemu do ewaluacji potencjału aplikacyjnego na poszczególnych etapach opracowywania innowacyjnych rozwiązań. Wykorzystanie metody umożliwia bardziej efektywną kontrolę procesu wdrażania wyników badań naukowych do zastosowań praktycznych, przyczyniając się do wzrostu innowacyjności i konkurencyjności gospodarki. Walory systemu oceny SDW zostały potwierdzone w kolejnych aplikacjach, m.in. do oceny rozwiązań innowacyjnych MŚP oraz innowacyjnych przedsięwzięć podejmowanych w ramach parków przemysłowo-technologicznych.

    Technology entrepreneurship is becoming one of the solutions resulting in increased innovativeness and competitiveness of enterprises in the conditions of the so called new economy. It is the process of transformation of an idea into innovation, and it covers the conversion of scientific knowledge into products and services aimed directly at the commercial market. At its basis lies the effective cooperation between the research centres, capital market institutions and business support institutions as well as enterprises. Hence an essential challenge faced by the business entities is the development of appropriate relationships and forms of cooperation with the elements of the business environment, allowing for the efforts of the commercial as well as science and technology spheres to be directed at the creation of innovation with the use of market opportunities and the potential of the dynamic business environment. Therefore the aim of this paper has been set to draw attention to the importance of shaping of appropriate forms of cooperation with the business environment in the process of technology entrepreneurship development. In order to achieve this aim, a case study of MakoLab S.A., enterprise operating in the IT industry has been conducted.

    Determinanty współpracy nauki i biznesu w branży farmaceutycznej – case study

    Opis:
    The subject of the article is commercialization of research which generates innovative products for the company involved. The aim of the research was to identify factors that influence the onset of cooperation and mutual research by scientists and entrepreneurs in the pharmaceutical sector. Empirical part of the research was based on case study method. The authors confront data collected during the desk research with the data obtained from studying a company that has been transforming from a pharmaceutical distributor into a production company in this sector. In order to develop innovative medical products, the company undertook cooperation with scientists who proposed solutions that are demanded in the market. Interviews with representatives of the company and scientists involved in cooperation were conducted. Additionally, the authors interviewed representatives of technology transfer office at Lublin University of Technology, who supported the cooperation with their consulting services, and made participating observations of the initial stages of cooperation. The analysis of the empirical data allowed presentation of success factors in initiating cooperation in implementing innovations for all the actors involved, i.e. companies, scientists and supporting institutions.
    Problematyka prezentowanego opracowania dotyczy komercjalizacji wyników badań naukowych, w efekcie których w przedsiębiorstwie wdrażane są nowe produkty innowacyjne. Celem przeprowadzonych badań była próba identyfikacji czynników wpływających na nawiązywanie współpracy oraz prowadzenie wspólnych prac badawczo-rozwojowych przez naukowców i przedsiębiorców, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem branży farmaceutycznej. Do realizacji badań empirycznych wykorzystano metodę case study. W pracy zaprezentowano przedsiębiorstwo z branży farmaceutycznej, które w ostatnich latach podjęło próbę przekształcenia z działalności handlowej w produkcyjną. W celu wprowadzenia innowacyjnych produktów analizowana organizacja nawiązała współpracę z naukowcami, zajmującymi się badaniami w obszarze zastosowania nowych technologii w branży farmaceutycznej. Na potrzeby realizacji prezentowanych badań przeprowadzono wywiady z naukowcami biorącymi udział w procesie komercjalizacji technologii, przedstawicielami analizowanego przedsiębiorstwa oraz pracownikami Centrum Innowacji i Transferu Technologii Politechniki Lubelskiej. Wywiady uzupełniono obserwacją uczestniczącą oraz analizą dokumentacji. Analiza wyników przeprowadzonych badań empirycznych umożliwiła prezentację czynników sukcesu w inicjowaniu współpracy i wdrażaniu innowacji, dotyczących zarówno obu stron procesu komercjalizacji, jak też ich otoczenia.

    Artykuł jest próbą znalezienia odpowiedzi na pytanie czy i jak współpraca międzynarodowa przyczynia się do rozwoju innowacji technologicznych, których celem już na etapie prac badawczo-rozwojowych jest wzrost konkurencyjności przedsiębiorstw i regionów. Dokonano analizy uwarunkowań dla rozwoju innowacji technologicznych, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem kontekstu współpracy nauki i gospodarki, również międzynarodowych badań pro-innowacyjnych, podejmowanych przez przedsiębiorstwa. Pokazano ciekawe trendy w finansowaniu prac B+R w przedsiębiorstwach przez podmioty zagraniczne, programy rządowe i międzynarodowe organizacje. Zwrócono uwagę na wzrost znaczenia dla podnoszenia innowacyjności powiązań kooperacyjnych czyli branżowych klastrów środowiska międzynarodowego, będącego Źródłem synergii korzyści. Autorka zwraca uwagę, że szczególna rola w promowaniu idei open innovation i zauważalna integracja wysiłków środowiska B+R, zarówno w sektorze nauki jak i w biznesie, przypada obecnie zespołom naukowobadawczym, poszukującym nowych rozwiązań technologicznych w obszarach środowiskowych, szeroko rozumianej energetyce odnawialnej, zrównoważonym transporcie i technologiach ograniczających emisję.

    Celem artykułu jest analiza znaczenia innowacji technologicznych w handlu elektronicznym, a także ocena, w jaki sposób mogą one wpływać na kształtowanie się sektora e-commerce. W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki własnych badań ankietowych przeprowadzonych wśród właścicieli e-sklepów, jak również e-konsumentów, zwracając uwagę na liczbę i stopień wykorzystywanych narzędzi przez przedsiębiorców oraz wymagania klientów wobec podmiotów prowadzących sprzedaż internetową. Analizy zagadnienia dokonano w kontekście charakterystycznych dla współczesnego wirtualnego rynku zjawisk, jak big data, konkurencyjność, komodytyzacja, rosnąca świadomość klientów.
    The aim of this article is an analysis of the meaning of technological innovations in e-commerce as well as the review of how they might influence the shaping of the e-commerce sector. The article presents the results of an in-house survey research, conducted among the online store owners and customers. It focuses on the number of tools and the degree to which they are used by store owners as well as clients' demands towards sellers. The analysis of this issue was made in the context of the characteristic for the modern virtual market occurrences, such as big data, competitiveness, commoditization, increasing awareness of customers.

    W opracowaniu dokonano przeglądu współczesnych znaczeń, definicji, określeń oraz ograniczeń innowacji technologicznych, technicznych i organizacyjnych, ze wskazaniem roli odgrywanej przez podmioty gospodarcze w procesach innowacyjnych, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem uwarunkowań i możliwości wprowadzania innowacji w rolnictwie. Poruszono ewolucje znaczeniowe innowacji jako podstawowego elementu rozwoju gospodarczego XXI wieku, omówiono pojęcia innowacji technologicznych i technicznych w skali mikro i makro (rynek światowy); współczesne pojęcie innowacji jako procesu ujmującego kompleks zjawisk i zdarzeń tworzących nowe technologie lub produkty. Formy działania, znaczenie i miejsce przedsiębiorstw, jednostek badawczo-rozwojowych i administracji w procesach innowacyjnych. Źródła wiedzy potencjalnych wytwórców o zapotrzebowaniu na innowacje. Funkcjonowanie nauk podstawowych, rolę i znaczenie dochodu (zysku), monopolizację i przyczyny ograniczania konkurencyjności. Dążenia do zamiany pieniędzy na wiedzę, wiedzy na innowacje i innowacji na pieniądze. Cechy charakterystyczne innowacji w technologiach rolniczych (kreatywność, tempo, zasięg). Sprzężenia zwrotne pomiędzy technologiami a środkami technicznymi. Ograniczenia powodowane dyspersją i zróżnicowaniem potencjalnego rynku oraz barierami dochodowości, w tym udziałem rolnictwa w PKB.     The paper presents the review of modern meanings, definitions, terms and limitations of technological, technical and organizational innovations with indication of the role played by economic subjects in the innovation processes with particular consideration of preconditions and possibilities of introducing innovations in agriculture. Meaning evolutions of innovations as a basic element of economic development of the 21st century were raised. Technological and technical innovation terms in the micro and macro scale were discussed (global market); modern term of innovations as a process presenting a set of phenomena and events which create new technologies and products were also raised. Forms of operation, meaning and place of enterprises, research and development units and administration in innovative processes. Sources of knowledge of potential producers on the demand for innovations. Functioning of basic sciences, role and meaning of income (profit), monopolization and reasons for limiting competitiveness. Aspiration to change money into knowledge, knowledge into innovation and innovation into money. Characteristic features of innovations in agricultural technologies (creativity, rate, scope). Feedback between technologies and technical means. Limitations caused by dispersion and diversity of a potential market and income barriers, including participation of agriculture in GDP. Possible trends of development and changes of innovativeness. The paper includes materials available in the literature and results of own studies.
