    This article covers a particular form of Wisława Szymborska conceptism, her Thought fugues, which turns the world’s elements upside down and deconstructs them, uncovering their antinomies. The described reality takes the form of a concatenation, it is elliptic, based on seemingly symmetric tessellations, but in essence triggers some logic turns. It is possible to discern a similarity with advertising rhetoric and its constant variations of sense based on oppositions, such as double meaning, antiphrasis, paradox, or tautology. In all of which Szymborska is able to notice the condensing of meaning, or even some oxymoronic properties. It is perhaps this reason why her poetry is accessible to such a wide audience across the world. Though frequently condemned by 20th-century thinkers as a mere pleonasm, tautology becomes for the poetess a fluid material useful for her dialectics of imagination. Szymborska does not see language as a mirror of the world, but rather as an act of creating new worlds and new forms of life, like Wittgenstein did in his theory of language games. This is why she prefers such word games more than other poets. Due to their dual nature, tautologies constitute a potential and permanent element of Szymborska’s conceptual games.

    In the article, the phenomenon of semantically double compound in German is addressed. They are the focus of Georg Schuppener‘s monograph, published in 2019. The work is the first systematic description of this phenomenon and, in theory, offers a compact compendium on the phenomenon it deals with. The theoretical considerations are supported by numerous examples.

    Prefiksy werbalne, obok dwóch podstawowych funkcji: semantycznej i gramatycznej, mogą pełnić także funkcję tautologiczną. Proces tworzenia czasownikowych derywatów synonimicznych był żywy w polszczyźnie historycznej i przetrwał do dziś na gruncie gwarowym. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie procesów powstawania derywatów tożsamych na przykładzie materiału werbalnego pochodzącego z gwar południowomazowieckich, wskazanie ewentualnych przyczyn zjawiska tautologii oraz próba ustalenia, gdzie kończy się tautologia a zaczyna semantyka prefiksu.
    Verbal prefixes, apart from two basic functions i.e. semantical and grammatical, may also serve tautological functions. The process of creating verbal synonymous derivatives was alive in historical Polish language and remained alive in dialects. The purpose of this dissertation is to present the processes of creating corresponding derivatives on the example of a verbal material of southern Mazovian dialects, point possible causes of tautology phenomenon, as well as an attempt to determine where tautology ends and where prefix semantics starts.

    Opis:
    The present paper discusses diverse aspects of pleonasms in different types of German discourses. Pleonasm, similarly to tautology, is a strongly criticised phenomenon, not only by regular language users, but also by linguists, especially lexicographers. It does not change the fact, that it is widely used in different discourse types, especially in spoken and technical ones. It appears also on different levels of the language structure. It occurs that it is a mechanism of the language use and it should not be treated a priori as a mistake, because it is a specific language universal, present in different languages around the world.

    The analysis of the axiom of mathematical induction, which is given by the formula of mathematical logics is presented in the paper. It has been established that the famous formula of mathematical induction is executed only in case of ordered values of the variable linked by a quantifier. This ordering is not described analytically. Algebra of algorithms is applied for an analytical description of ordering of the variable values. The axiom of mathematical induction is described by the formula of algebra of algorithms.

    This article focuses on pleonasms extracted from the OCS Psalterium Sinaiticum and investigates their preservation in later representatives of successive CS Psalter redactions. In order to examine the use of the constructions under scrutiny, the (O)CS Psalters have been compared with one another and with the Greek and the Hebrew patterns of translation. The study provides a detailed description of lexical choices with respect to pleonasms present in selected contexts of the Psalter. It also considers analogical structures discussed in the literature on the subject, stressing a specifically emphatic character of (O)CS Psalter pleonasms, similar to that of their Greek and Hebrew equivalents. As observed, the use of pleonasms in the compared (O)CS Psalters is distinctly consistent and generally based on the Greek/Hebrew sources. Cases that could testify to these Biblical stylistic structures having already become independent on the Slavic ground are noted as exceptions.
    Artykuł koncentruje się na pleonazmach wyekscerpowanych ze staro-cerkiewno-słowiańskiego Psałterza synajskiego. Ma na celu zbadanie ich zachowawczości w młodszych reprezentantach kolejnych cerkiewnosłowiańskich redakcji psałterzowych. Teksty (s)cs. psałterzy porównano między sobą oraz z greckimi i hebrajskimi wzorcami przekładowymi pod kątem użycia rozpatrywanych konstrukcji pleonastycznych. Szerzej opisano leksykalny wybór w odniesieniu do pleonazmów obecnych w wybranych kontekstach Psałterza. Uwagę poświęcono także analogicznym strukturom omówionym w literaturze przedmiotu. Podkreślono specyficzny emfatyczny charakter (s)cs. pleonazmów psałterzowych, podobny do ich grecko-hebrajskich ekwiwalentów. Wskazano na wyraźną zgodność co do użyć konstrukcji pleonastycznych w porównywanych (s)cs. psałterzach, z reguły uzasadnioną greckim/hebrajskim wzorcem (wzorcami). Przypadki mogące świadczyć o usamodzielnieniu się na gruncie słowiańskim analizowanych biblijnych struktur stylistycznych odnotowuje się jako wyjątki.

    Opis:
    The paper focuses on acronym-based noun phrases, i.e. noun phrases consisting of an abbreviation and a non-abbreviated lexeme. The author works with the theory of lexical motivation which presumes the existence of several types of motivation, including abbreviation and syntactic motivation. While abbreviations are formed by means of abbreviation motivation, syntactic constructions such as noun phrases are formed by means of syntactic motivation. Both types of motivation are dominant in the forming of abbreviation noun phrases. The author distinguishes and explains the differences between tautological (PIN number), semi-tautological (SIM card) and explicative noun phrases (GPRS platforms) as well as abbreviation multi-word units (USB port). The paper points out manifold functionality of each type of abbreviation noun phrase/multiword unit and presents abbreviations as productive means of forming new constructions and lexemes. Their versatile character makes abbreviations universal forms for coining new expressions of terminological character and thus contributing to multiple terminological databases of languages.
    Celem artykułu jest opis fraz rzeczownikowych mających w swojej strukturze akronim oraz pełen (nie będący skrótowcem) człon rzeczownikowy. Autorka artykułu bazuje na teorii motywacji z jej postulatem o zróżnicowanych typach motywowania. O ile powstawanie skrótowców motywowane jest abrewiacją, struktury składniowe takie jak nominaty powstają w drodze motywacji syntaktycznej. W artykule wyróżnia się i omawia osobliwe cechy fraz rzeczownikowych tautologicznych (numer PIN), semi-tautologicznych (karta SIM) i objaśniających (platforma GPRS) czy skrótowców wieloczłonowych (port USB). Wskazuje się też na wielofunkcjonalność każdego z wymienionych typów oraz produktywność skrótowców w tworzeniu nowych jednostek leksykalnych. Ta cecha sprawia, że skrótowce postrzegane są jako uniwersalne środki formułowania nowych terminów specjalistycznych, a tym samym jako jednostki wybitnie przydatne w budowaniu baz terminologicznych danego języka.
