Tourism, as one of the biggest and fastest growing industries in the world, has an enormous impact on the achievements of the Europe 2020 growth strategy. The main factor influencing its effectiveness, based on achievement of strategy indicators, is tourist infrastructure, which is understood as hotel and restaurant facilities used by tourists coming to a particular area to meet their needs associated with passive and active tourism. To achieve the highest effectiveness in this regard, the European Union has established the scheme of Ecolabel standards, implemented in individual countries through independent certification, compliance with which means that the strategy’s assumptions can be effectively implemented. According to experts, managing a facility in compliance with Ecolabel standards today is an example of innovative hotel management. In addition to the benefits resulting from taking care of the environment, the certification also allows for a reduction of the operating costs of a facility. This paper aims at verifying - through an econometric model – research hypotheses related to the reduction in operating costs of a facility that complies with the certification standards.

Meeting new and larger social needs in conjunction with the rapid increasing population in the world caused the destruction of the environment in many areas on Earth. Properly organized tourism and logistics are considered as an one of the most practical ways to save nature from the more harmful forms of exploitation. The main goal of this article is to present the concept of sustainable development of tourism, taking into account the problem of logistics services in the community Byczyna. This is an area which is characterized by numerous socio-economic problems, such as population decline, lack of industry, difficulties in the agricultural sector. However, Byczyna has a significant accumulation of tourist attractions that can help this area to improve the image and economic recovery. In the article shown a concept of a new tourism product called „Byczyński Kaleidoscope”, which in assumption is to contribute to development in this area of such forms of tourism, which are considered as environmentally friendly. Additionally, this product will enhance the historical and cultural heritage of the region and improve the economical existence of the local community.

They also discuss the importance of cross-border tourism from the perspective of sustainable development and the role of environmental education in sustainable tourism development. Tourism is one of the fastest developing sectors of the economy and one of the sectors extremely vulnerable to climate change. As all tourism destinations rely on their unique natural or cultural values, any changes in climate and an increase in extreme climate events impact on the industry more than the other economic sectors. The article presents the relationship between climate change and tourism, focusing on the ethical dimension of sustainable tourism. The aim of the article is to present the moral questions on sustainability in tourism in the context of climate change. It focuses on environmental values and presents its role in the context of sustainable tourism development.

The paper presents the issue of the sustainable tourism which corresponds with the concept of the sustainable development. The work concentrates on the theoretical analysis of the sustainable tourism, often treated as a tool of accomplishment of the sustainable development or the tool of the development of tourism itself. The article is an attempt to state the basic rules of the sustainable tourism on the so-called rural health resort areas. The work shows what kind of tourism can be developed on the analysed rural areas, at the same time being in harmony with the concept of the sustainable tourism. In the paper the analysis of the national and foreign literature from the domain of the concept of the sustainable tourism, including rural areas, and the observation of the chosen indicators of the sustainable development of health resorts villages are presented. The concept of the sustainable development arose in the 1970s and it was an expression of the critical reaction to the growing interference in natural and social and cultural resources. The concept of the sustainable development is not opposite to the possibilities of economic growth, on condition that the pace of the reproduction of the environmental resources is not slower than the pace of the usage of these resources. The theoretical basis of the usage of the rules of the sustainable development in the world literature started to be seen at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s. The document „Agenda 21 for Travelling and Tourism Economy” turned out to be fundamental for the development of the concept of the sustainable tourism. The practical use of the concept of the sustainable development in the rural areas economy needs devising indicators and indexes characterizing this development. The indicators are divided into: indicators of environmental pressure (danger, stress), indicators of condition (quality) of the environment and indicators of preventive activities. The economic significance of the tourism lies in its positive influence on the different departments of the economy, including agriculture. One of the more important impacts is stopping the migration of people from the rural areas.

Celem artykułu jest ukazanie zrównoważonej konsumpcji jako współczesnego atrybutu i uwarunkowania rozwoju branży turystycznej. Przedstawiona w pracy koncepcja konsumpcji zrównoważonej oraz bezpośrednie odwołanie się do niej w turystyce pozwoliło autorom określić współczesne zmiany zachodzące na rynku usług turystycznych i podkreślić znaczenie troski o ochronę środowiska przyrodniczego we współczesnych wyborach konsumenta. Zdaniem autorów, ukierunkowanie konsumenta usług turystycznych na ochronę środowiska przyrodniczego wpisuje się w globalne zmiany zachowań konsumenckich, zauważalne również w innych sektorach usług. Jak podkreślają autorzy, w przypadku turystyki zmiana ta jest szczególnie ważna, bowiem powszechne uznawanie turystyki za formę działalności gospodarczej przyjaznej środowisku doprowadziło przez lata do nieodpowiedzialnego gospodarowania zasobami przyrody na rzecz jej rozwoju, a w konsekwencji do wielu nieodwracalnych zmian. Realizacja zasad zrównoważonego rozwoju w turystyce poprzez konsumpcję stanowi, w ocenie autorów, nie tylko element warunkujący rozwój turystyki, ale również istotną cechę wyróżniającą na tle innych sektorów usług. Odwołując się do pojęcia zrównoważonej konsumpcji, autorzy podkreślają również istotną rolę branży turystycznej w implementacji zrównoważonego rozwoju w turystyce.
The aim of this article is to demonstrate the sustainable consumption as contemporary attribute and condition of the tourism sector development. The article presents the concept of sustainable consumption with direct reference to tourism that allowed the authors to define contemporary changes on tourism services market, highlighting the importance of protection of the natural environment in contemporary choices of consumers. In the authors’ opinion, the focusing of consumers tourism services on this protection is in line with the global changes of consumers’ behaviour that are visible in other services sectors. The authors also emphasize that this changes are particularly important for tourism. This relates to the universal recognition of tourism as a form of an environmentally friendly economic activity that over the years caused the irresponsible management of natural resources for development and consequently led to numerous irreversible changes. According to the authors, the implementation of the principles of sustainable tourism development by consumption is not only the element which decides on the development, it could be an important distinguishing feature in comparison to other services sectors. By referring to the concept of sustainable consumption the authors also emphasize the important role of tourism industry in implementation of sustainable development in tourism.

Climate change a phenomenon mainly caused by the high level of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission into the atmosphere of the Earth - makes human ecosystems vulnerable and is predicted to affect our everyday life in the near future. The increased intensity of storms, cyclones, drought and flooding; the greater magnitude and frequency of heat and cold waves and the continuous rise of the sea-level are likely to generate more geopolitical conflicts, especially in the most vulnerable regions of the planet. The three main categories of climate change impacts are classified as environmental, economic and social effects. The economic and social consequences of climate change are expected to significantly reduce the resilience of rural tourism regions and their capability to successfully respond to other possible critical events. Due to the impacts of natural disasters and extreme climatic events, global climate change affects European rural regions, too. The development of sustainable rural tourism requires the in-depth understanding of the ongoing processes and the development of tools that will serve the interest of tourism and local people alike.
Celem opracowania jest określenie przyszłości zrównoważonego rozwoju turystyki obszarów wiejskich w związku z wpływem zmian klimatycznych. Stwierdzono, że ze względu na skutki klęsk żywiołowych i ekstremalnych zjawisk klimatycznych, globalna zmiana klimatu wpływa również na europejskie regiony wiejskie. Rozwój zrównoważonej turystyki wiejskiej wymaga dogłębnego zrozumienia bieżących procesów i opracowywania narzędzi, które będą służyć zarówno turystyce, jak i ludności lokalnej.

The paper deals with the sound tourism –a new form of tourism, which is based on travelling to places with unique acoustic characteristics or unique soundscapes. The aim of the article is to analyze the relationship between sound tourism and sustainable tourism. The paper demonstrates that sound tourism conforms to the idea of sustainable development. It also highlights the fact that soundscapes should be protected given the opportunities they offer for sustainable development

Marinas are of key importance in the development of sustainable marine tourism, whereas requirements posed by certification organizations can have a motivating effect and contribute to the implementation of environmentally and socially friendly solutions. The aim of this study is to analyze two world-leading marina categorization systems: the Gold Anchor Scheme and the IMCI Blue Star Marina Certification System. A special focus is made on the criteria relating to sustainable development, such as requirements concerning services, equipment, and management, posed to marinas by the accreditation bodies. The following research question has been defined: Do certification and categorization contribute to the development of sustainable sailing tourism? The results of the conducted analyses show that part of the requirements set by the accreditation organizations running two of the most popular marina categorization schemes worldwide relate to the achievement of sustainable development goals. The requirements motivate the management at marinas applying for a category to implement solutions that are friendly to the environment and society, and contribute to the growth of local economies. The research results indicate that the categorization of marinas is not only of some marketing value but is also a useful tool in the development of sustainable marine tourism.

The aim of this article is to refer tourism destination product to sustainable consumption in tourism. Realization of this aim was possible by theoretical presentation and directly compiling of both concepts. The starting point of them was a specification of the features of tourism destination product. Decision about choosing the issues was a result of literature review on sustainable development. The researchers highlight that further consideration will be concentrating on space (as one of areas of implementation of sustainable development) and sustainable consumption. In the author’s opinion the issues presented should be particularly related to tourism sector. The basic reasons for this approach are: specifics of tourism destination product; differences in tourists’ needs; varied degree of satisfying tourists needs. The general consideration of consumption and tourism destination showed that no clear conclusions can be drawn. In relation to the above, in the author’s opinion the reference of tourism destination product to sustainable consumption in tourism seems like a challenge. The issues mentioned in the article can serve as a starting point of a discussion.
Artykuł ma na celu odniesienie produktu obszaru recepcji turystycznej do konsumpcji zrównoważonej w turystyce poprzez bliższe przedstawienie obu pojęć oraz ich bezpośrednie zestawienie ze sobą na podstawie wyszczególnionych cech produktu obszaru recepcji turystycznej. Podejmując rozważania na gruncie konsumpcji zrównoważonej w turystyce, uwzględniając również wskazywaną konieczność badań nad zrównoważonym rozwojem w odniesieniu do przestrzeni, autor wybrał szczególny dla tej tematyki przedmiot badawczy, jakim jest produkt obszaru recepcji turystycznej. Zdaniem autora jest to zagadnienie wymagające szczególnego odniesienia do konsumpcji zrównoważonej w turystyce, ze względu na swą ogólną specyfikę, różnorodność potrzeb zgłaszanych przez turystów oraz zróżnicowany stopień zaangażowania w proces zaspokajania własnych potrzeb. Dyskusja nad ogólnymi pojęciami obszaru recepcji turystycznej i konsumpcji pokazała, że już na etapie dość ogólnych wniosków pojawiają się wątpliwości i niejednoznaczność. Próba odniesienia pojęcia produktu obszaru recepcji turystycznej do konsumpcji zrównoważonej w turystyce wydaje się więc wyzwaniem szczególnym, które zdaniem autora wymaga dalszych badań. Przedstawione w artykule rozważania mogą stać się przyczynkiem do dyskusji.

This research attempts to answer whether Cittaslow is a myth or an effective model for development for Taraklı, a small town in the Sakarya province of Turkey. The study was designed and analysed using the mixed method research model. The results are as follows. Since Taraklı became a Cittaslow, the number of tourists increased which ultimately helped to fight against unemployment and also increased income of people. Women’s participation in the labour force had increased and their representation in public places was enhanced. Important steps were taken towards the preservation of cultural heritage. Along with quantitative and qualitative improvements in green areas, the local people’s awareness of environmental protection has increased.

Human communities have always taken actions to create a healthier environment for living and working. Those efforts are best documented in the architectural structure everywhere, starting from ancient history to the present. It is assumed that the town of Ulcinj is one of the earliest cities on the Adriatic coast. The building morphology and urban structure of Ulcinj is 2,500 years old and is continued by multi-ethnical society. Hence, the urban structure of Ulcinj developed harmonically across the rock hills which encompass the city beach, forming the urban structure which is perceived as the unity of land and sea. The study investigates the Ulcinj urban structure, urban management, sustainable development, focusing on human comfort, and environmental actions with a view to accomplish better and more natural life. Bioclimatic passive design principles are associated with an environmental sustainable design, interrelated to the microclimate of the region, connected to the thermal, spatial, visual, acoustic, and air quality. The research method consists of empirical observation through the city and riviera. According to the conceptual findings of this paper, with a proper implementation of bioclimatic passive principles, the work seeks to indicate that it is possible to achieve a higher level than the current one. Hence, the huge number of tourists and overnight stays can make a difference in eco-tourism, and sustainable development if we can achieve energy efficiency, and preserve the natural resources in accordance with passive bioclimatic principles.

The article also informs about planned investments in the above-mentioned areas in the coming years.
