One of the most important problems of the present day is the safety of the existence of a human being and his or her cultural, civilizational and environmental existence. The idea about what should be done in order to guarantee the safe existence of species is the reason for the discussion within the broad circles of those dealing with science and also philosophy, and in particular eco-philosophy. It is eco-philosophy that truly focuses on substantiating the ways of thinking as well as the rules governing the committed and well-thought actions related to the environmental protection. Educational initiatives for sustainable development are open to the influence of eco-philosophy. Therefore, the need to fill educational strategies and programs with the subtle philosophical “matter”, expressed in the form of values and related behavioral norms, opens a significantly large space for eco-philosophers and the eco-philosophy itself. It needs to be emphasized that the relation between the education for sustainable development and the activities aimed at strengthening the structures of the civil society creates additional interest on the part of numerous social entities as regards the philosophical discourse.

Every agribusiness company affects the natural environment, to a smaller or larger extent. There can be no choice between the environment and economic development, therefore the agribusiness companies must adjust their development to the possibilities that the environment offers. The aim of this study is to present ecological innovations in agribusiness companies and their reference to the idea of sustainable development. Survey research was carried out among 156 agribusiness companies from Kujawsko-pomorskie Province of Poland. The only companies participating in the research were those in which some ecological investments were implemented. The research showed that the agribusiness companies consider the policy of introducing ecological investments to be very important. The companies are trying to bring into their management the strategy of eco-innovations so that they can operate with a benefit for its consumers and the natural environment. The basic types of ecological investments in the surveyed agribusiness companies include: careful waste segregation, ecological production and limiting harmful gas emission. The ecological innovations stem from the principles of sustainable development, they support the introduction of sustainable solutions in the companies, they also allow for a more efficient use of natural resources and contribute to the limitation of actions harmful to the environment while maintaining the high level of innovativeness.

Today, the more and more intensive use of natural resources and consequent environmental degradation have made the issue of sustainable development a central place in many discussions going on in scientific circles. In this light, ecological awareness, as well as pro-ecological attitudes and behaviors of people seem to be only too significant. The aim of this article is to present the results of research conducted among the inhabitants of the Municipality of Zawadzkie, Opole Voivodeship. The study examined the relation between the level of environmental awareness and manifestations of environmental attitudes and behaviors. The obtained results were also subjected to a comparative analysis of two groups of respondents: inhabitants of towns and villages. The study did not show any significant differences between residents of towns and villages in terms of their ecological awareness and environmental attitudes and behaviors. It can therefore be concluded that changes in the sphere of awareness and specific environmental actions that are being taken in the surveyed community are not related to the place of residence. Residents of towns and villages have a similar access to knowledge and cultural changes concern both groups. It is worth pointing out that awareness as such and knowledge of the environment does not guarantee developing proper attitudes and pro-ecological behaviors, and changes in the area of specific environmental activities are of a long-term nature and do not occur overnight. Research has also shown that although knowledge about ecology is not always reflected in everyday attitudes and behaviors of the respondents, changes in environmental direction can be observed in both urban and rural areas.

Generation-based approach to natural resource economics has been developed in the article. Based on sustainable development definition, generations can be categorized by present and future ones. An ecological classification of the global natural resources has been proposed, which is related to future generations. Economic issues of eco-futuristic classification have also been raised in the article. Classification of ecological values has been proposed and ecological values being incorporated into a form of ecological culture and exploited as a new factor of production have been analyzed. The effect of increasing marginal futuristic utility of ecological values has been revealed at the end of the article.

Though the issue of eco-innovation is a new category in economic sciences, it is seen by farmers as a way to attain competitive advantage in the global market more and more often. The main determinants of implementation of eco-innovation in the economy are the formal and legal regulations and market factors. The primary purpose of eco-innovation is to reduce negative environmental impact of agricultural activity and to produce food that is good for people. The aim of this article is to present the issue of eco-innovation and to indicate strengths and weaknesses as well as opportunities and threats for agriculture that result from their implementation.
Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie zagadnienia ekoinnowacji oraz wskazanie silnych i słabych stron oraz szans i zagrożeń dla rolnictwa z ich wprowadzania. Mimo że zagadnienie ekoinnowacji jest nową kategorią w naukach ekonomicznych, to staje się coraz częściej dostrzegane przez rolników jako sposób na uzyskanie przewagi konkurencyjnej na globalnym rynku. Główne determinanty wdrażania innowacji ekologicznych w gospodarce to regulacje formalno-prawne oraz czynniki o charakterze rynkowym. Celem innowacji ekologicznych jest przede wszystkim zmniejszenie negatywnych skutków działalności rolniczej na środowisko naturalne, jak również produkcja żywności przyjaznej dla ludzi.

Civilization development has led to emerging of many facilities in human life and business, but has also introduced major changes and created a new order that over time has come to be in opposition to nature. The possibility to reconcile ecological, economic and social reasons is to be found in the idea of sustainable development. The prerequisite for achieving sustainable development is education, which is one of the fundamental human rights that enables integral development. The purpose of the study was to verify the role and importance of education in the emergence and implementation of a circular economy idea. As it turned out, research has shown that sustainable development is largely dependent on the implementation of the circular economy in which the education is a fundamental and necessary tool.

Green Economy is often seen as a remedy to the largely failed efforts of sustainable development. This paper unpacks and discusses the ambiguities of strategies towards a Green Economy in order to encourage reflection about its potential unintended and undesired outcomes. It juxtaposes current arguments in favour of Green Economy with real economic, political and cultural developments. Three arguments receive special attention: first, the proposition that the Green Economy reformulates the failed or at least insufficient strategies of sustainable development; second, the assumption that “economy” and “ecology” can now be reconciled; and third, the assumed positive effects of greening of the economy for countries in the Global South and their fight against poverty. The paper argues that the Green Economy can turn out to be a false promise.
Pomimo licznych sukcesów polityka zrównoważonego rozwoju nie powiodła się. Ekologiczne, społeczne i ekonomiczne problemy nie zostały rozwiązane. Strategia zielonej gospodarki wydaje się być uaktualnieniem zrównoważonego rozwoju. Celem artykułu jest pokazanie dwuznaczności zielonej gospodarki. Ma ona pokazać wszystkie efekty tego typu polityki, również te, które nie są intencją państw ją wprowadzających. W tekście zestawiono niektóre z argumentów na rzecz zielonej gospodarki z realnymi uwarunkowaniami gospodarczymi, politycznymi i kulturowymi. Trzy z nich zasługują na szczególną uwagę. Pierwszy związany jest z tezą, że zielona gospodarka stanowi przeformułowanie strategii zrównoważonego rozwoju. Druga teza zakłada, że „gospodarkę" i „ekologię" można teraz pogodzić, trzecia wreszcie – że zielona gospodarka ma pozytywny wplyw na rozwój gospodarczy krajów Południa i służy walce z ubóstwem.

Podstawą kształtowania nowej świadomości społecznej, poszerzonej o świadomość ekologiczną jako integralną część zrównoważonego rozwoju, jest wiedza. Zdobywanie jej, przetwarzanie i wykorzystywanie w różnych przedsięwzięciach to podstawa działań racjonalnego podmiotu. Chcąc kształcić na rzecz zrównoważonego rozwoju zachodzi konieczność ustawicznej edukacji nie tylko dzieci i młodzieży, ale także dorosłych. Działania te powinny być prowadzone przez odpowiednio przygotowane grupy edukatorów i zawierać się w dobrze przemyślanym systemie obejmującym współpracę ze szkołami i organizacjami pozarządowymi. Należy podkreślić, że edukacja ekologiczna będzie spełniać zadania do jakich została powołana wówczas, jeśli będzie ona obejmować każdy zakres i wszystkie poziomy edukacji formalnej i nieformalnej. Powinna mieć przede wszystkim charakter interdyscyplinarny oraz międzygeneracyjny.
Knowledge is the basis of shaping new social awareness that includes ecological and sustainable development awareness. Acquiring, processing and using knowledge in different undertakings is at the core of all actions performed by any human being. There is a necessity of constant education of children, young people and adults. The actions should be conducted by appropriately prepared teachers and be included in a well prepared system of schools and non-governmental organizations working together. One should emphasize that the goals of ecological education can be achieved only if it covers all aspects of formal and informal education. And above all it should have interdisciplinary and intergenerational character.

Ecological crisis is most often regarded as an adverse impact of civilizational development. Educational problems concerning the sustainable development of modern societies include among others the problems of consciousness. They are essential to understand what kind of good for humanity the nature is. Hence discussions about the future development of civilization often refer to the issue of developing ecological consciousness, thanks to which the idea of a sustainable development stands a chance of being implemented. A crucial role in shaping it is played by educational activities. Without suitably shaped ecological consciousness during the conflict of interest it is rather short-term interests that are accomplished. However, this is at odds with the idea of a sustainable development and contributes to deepening the ecological crisis. Therefore, theoretical reflection must be closely linked to practical activities, including the educational ones. Development of a particular system of values and norms should entail its percolation into the sphere of social consciousness. Only then will it be possible to shape proper relations between the man, the society and nature.
Kryzys ekologiczny widziany jest najczęściej jako niekorzystny skutek rozwoju cywilizacyjnego. Wśród problemów edukacyjnych dotyczących zrównoważonego rozwoju współczesnych społeczeństw znajdują się m.in. problemy świadomościowe, które są kluczowe dla zrozumienia tego, jakim dobrem jest dla ludzkości przyroda. Stąd też w dyskusjach dotyczących dalszego rozwoju cywilizacyjnego często nawiązuje się do kwestii budowy świadomości ekologicznej, dzięki której idea zrównoważonego rozwoju ma szansę na realizację. Działania edukacyjne odgrywają w jej kształtowaniu istotną rolę. Bez odpowiednio ukształtowanej świadomości ekologicznej w sytuacji konfliktu interesu dochodzi bowiem raczej do realizacji interesów doraźnych, co kłóci się z ideą zrównoważonego rozwoju i przyczynia do pogłębiania się kryzysu ekologicznego. Refleksja teoretyczna musi być więc ściśle powiązana z działaniami o charakterze praktycznym, w tym edukacyjnym. Budowa określonego systemu wartości i norm winna wiązać się z jego przeniknięciem do sfery świadomości społecznej, gdyż dopiero wtedy będą mogły być kształtowane właściwe stosunki między człowiekiem, społeczeństwem a przyrodą.

Celem pracy jest określenie roli i aktywności samorządów gminnych w kreowaniu rozwoju obszarów przyrodniczo cennych województwa lubelskiego w aspekcie stosowania narzędzi marketingu ekologicznego. Realizacji celu służyła analiza literatury przedmiotu, dokumentów oraz analiza wyników badań przeprowadzonych w 2013 roku w 30 gminach z grupy o najwyższym poziomie cenności ekologicznej w województwie lubelskim. W ramach badań terenowych zrealizowano wywiady z wójtami/burmistrzami oraz pracownikami urzędów gmin ds. ochrony środowiska. Wykazano, że aktywność marketingowa dotyczy głównie działań w zakresie promocji ekologicznej. Aktywność marketingowa samorządów wymaga zwiększenia. Mimo ogólnie niskiego poziomu aktywności marketingowej wskazano przykłady dobrych praktyk w tym obszarze. Opracowanie przygotowano w ramach projektu badawczego 2011/01/D/HS4/03927 pt. „Ekologiczne uwarunkowania i czynniki rozwoju funkcji gospodarczych na obszarach przyrodniczo cennych województwa lubelskiego” finansowanego ze środków Narodowego Centrum Nauki.
The aim of the study is to determine the role and activities of local governments in creation of the sustainable development on environmentally valuable areas of the Lublin voivodeship in terms of the use of environmental marketing tools. The aim was to be achieved with literature and documents analysis, and empirical studies. The survey area consisted of 30 municipalities from the group with the highest environmental value in the Lublin voivodeship. A diagnostic survey, using an interview questionnaire addressed to the heads of municipalities and municipal employees for environmental protection, was used. It has been shown that the marketing activity consists mainly in the field of promotion. Marketing activity undertaken by local governments requires intensification. Despite the generally low level of marketing activity identified examples of good practice in this area. The article was prepared within the research project 2011/01/D/HS4/03927 entitled: “Ecological conditions and factors of development of economic functions in natural valuable areas of the Lubelskie voivodship” funded by the National Science Centre.
