Transport is generally an instrument for globalization. It is not possible to use transport as an instrument for de-globalization. For compensating the negative effects of globalization on regional and local markets, a world-wide sustainable development process is to be started. This is an idea propagated by United Nations since the publishing of the Brundtland-Report. Sustainability has three components: the social, the ecological and the economic sustainability. Economic sustainability is realized when the (transport) enterprises make no profits and setting the prices is following a price-wage-rule. This rule postulates that the price and wage have to be equal. However, transport can also set incentives for social and ecological sustainability. Transport is no instrument for de-globalization, but an important instrument for compensating the negative effects of globalization. The measures which transport policy has to realize sustainability are not new, but we need to a new world-wide concept for transport policy. We have to accept, that the world is one economic area and not more than two hundred areas. We need only one set of economic rules and not over hundred different sets of rules.

This papers aim is to focus on the specifications of the intermodal services in Slovakia (partly also in the Czech Republic and Austria) as representative of Central Europe as well as on the existing and potential clients of intermodal transport through the region of Southeast Europe. The analysed market has enough potential to offer intermodal services. Currently, the competitive situation compared to road transport is very unsatisfactory. Yet, it is hardly possible to realize a good revenue situation with intermodal transports. Nevertheless, the paper identifies three areas in question where potential was analysed by doing literature researches as well as using expert opinions. New intermodal services from the Adriatic port to Slovakia as well as between between Central Europe (Slovakia) and the southern CIS counties, e.g. Russia have been identified. In addition, new intermodal services into the direction of Romania and respectively Turkey show enough potential to establish several strategies to enhance the transport level within the whole corridor. Especially Turkey is characterized as "chance" for the area in question.

The paper presents the description of the different definitions of the concept - sustainable development of transport. The analysis of freight and passenger transportation in Ukraine in 2011 and composition of the park and the average age of municipal electric, sea and river vessels is studied. The volume of emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions from All transport modes in 2011 is analyzed. The framework and priorities of environmental cooperation between Ukraine and EU at the present stage are determined. Based on the concept of sustainable development and European experience the main directions of introduction of the sustainable development Policy of transport in Ukraine are offered.

Sustainable transport is about taking holistic approach by considering economic, society and environment along with the mobility and accessibility requirement of people. In case of Greater Mumbai, there is presence of inequity in provision of transport infrastructure and service. The first part of paper arrives at sustainability indicator by means of compounded economic, social & demographic, land use and transport access indicators. The second part of paper measures the extent of sustainability in various wards of Greater Mumbai. It was important to study the extent of sustainability by measuring the gap between sustainability & HDI indicator and sustainability & transport access indicator. In terms of transport access, the gap between transport access indicator and sustainability indicator is present in most of the wards of Greater Mumbai. The overall result proves that there is urgent need to address the provision of transport access in most of the wards of Greater Mumbai. Purpose: The main purpose of this paper is to arrive at sustainability indicator and to measures the extent of sustainability in various wards of Greater Mumbai in transport. Methodology: The paper arrives at sustainability indicator by developing compounded economic, social and demographic, land use and transport access indicators. In order to calculate economic, social & demographic, land-use and transport access indicator considered normalized value of each indicators derived from maximum point normalization across all wards. Finally equal weighted average of all indicators was taken to calculate the overall sustainability indicator. To measure the extent of sustainability in various wards of Greater Mumbai was done by comparing aggregate sustainable indicator with HDI indicator and transport access indicator. Result: The overall result proves that there is urgent need to address the provision of transport access in most of the wards of Greater Mumbai. The theoretical contribution: This paper arrives at sustainability indicator by compiling economic, social and demographic, land use and transport access indicators. Practical implications: This paper calculates ward level sustainability in Greater Mumbai and identifies the need to make provision of different transport infrastructure.

W ciągu ostatniej dekady z powodu rozwoju miast i wzrostu liczby ludności wyraźnie uległa zwiększeniu emisja CO2. Logistyka ma duży wpływ na te zmiany, które mają z kolei bardzo negatywne skutki i powodują degradację środowiska. W artykule skoncentrowano uwagę na innowacyjnych, „zielonych” rozwiązaniach logistycznych, które mogą być stosowane w metropoliach, przyczyniając się do redukcji zanieczyszczeń i kongestii. Przykładem takiego podejścia jest projekt DHL dla Istambułu, wykorzystujący przyjazne środowisku rozwiązania w transporcie lądowym i morskim oraz uwzględniający koszty związane z tymi przedsięwzięciami. Końcowy rezultat wskazuje, że pomimo konieczności ponoszenia wysokich kosztów związanych z tego rodzaju rozwiązaniami, redukującymi zanieczyszczenia i kongestię, w dłuższej perspektywie korzyści z polityki przyjaznej środowisku w postaci: oszczędności środków finansowych, poprawy ochrony środowiska i standardów życia mieszkańców będą większe. Również efekty gospodarcze są pozytywne i zachęcające. Rozwiązania DHL przedstawione w artykule mogą z powodzeniem być wykorzystane na całym świecie po ich dostosowaniu do konkretnej lokalizacji.
Nowadays CO2 emissions have exponentially increased over the last decade due to cities development and population growth. Logistics has a major impact, mainly negative, on the environment degradation. In this paper we focus on innovative “green” logistics solutions, which can be applied at the big city level, in economic and population expansion (emerging metropolis). That scope is to reduce simultaneously pollution and traffic congestion in agglomerated area. As an example we use a DHL Business Plan for Istanbul, aiming to implement a non- or little-polluting transport mode (by land and by sea) and estimative cost calculation that will be incurred by this challenging task. The final result of the research reveals that, although we expect to have higher cost for such a non polluting challenge, on the long run, the benefits of a durable go-green policy has higher impact in terms of money savings, environment protection and next generation life standards. As the output is positive, these results can be successfully applied to other cities or large very populated area, but analysis is needed to figure out which combination of schemes fitted for a particular location.

The study aims to estimate the air travel demand forecast for domestic passengers' travels in Nigeria from 2002-2016. Data resourced from the Central Bank of Nigeria, the National Bureau of Statistics, and the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria. The study utilized a multiple regression model using a Stata-Graphic software solver to analyze the data. From the analysis, the result shows that there is a significant relationship between the explanatory variable (passengers) and unexplanatory variables National Disposable Income, Population, Average Airfare, Gross Domestic Product, Exchange Rate, Total Expenditure, and Crude oil price, accounted for adjusted R of 93.624% relationship with demand for domestic air travel of passenger. The R-square statistic shows that the fitted model explains the variability in the number of passengers (NPAX), which is 96.8124%. The Hypothesis testing reveals that National Disposable Income and Airfare have a strong statistically significant relationship with the demand for domestic air travel with a P-value of 0.0013. Mores, a statistically significant relationship exists between National Disposable Income, Average airfare, and Crude oil price with P-values of 0.0017 and 0.0445, respectively. Furthermore, a forecast of the number of passengers and average airfare was carried out using ARIMA (1,0,0) model, which made available the future predicted values for the number of passenger movements and average airfare for the next 10-12 years to come. Thus, the study recommends that stakeholders in the air transport sector should work towards improving the capacity and infrastructure to accommodate the growth of air travel demand for domestic air travel in Nigeria. Policy implications were made on regulating the sector by having a good pricing policy to control the air fare for the industry.

Purpose: The primary purpose of this paper is to investigate whether the Road Freight Transport Sector in Zimbabwe considers the value of time in their operations and how this affects their competitiveness. Methodology: This quantitative study involves a survey of 384 randomly selected companies from a population of 1256 registered road freight companies in Zimbabwe. The data collected was analyzed using SPSS. Results: The study found that all the registered companies that participated in the research confirmed that the value of time phenomenon was alien to their business practices as they worked on assumptions. They also indicated a loss of business due to customer complaints. Theoretical Contribution: This paper contributes to the field by highlighting the importance of considering the value of time in business operations, particularly in the road freight transport sector. It provides empirical evidence supporting the theory that the value of time can significantly impact a firm’s competitiveness. Practical Implications: The findings of this study have practical implications for companies in the road freight transport sector. The study recommends policy formulation for companies emphasizing standard operating procedures and good time management to enhance competitiveness. This could lead to improved customer satisfaction and business success.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki analizy procesów rozwoju regionalnego sektorów TSL (ST) wielkich systemów społeczno-terytorialnych (STS) w kontekście zjawisk globalizacyjnych i glokalizacyjnych. Analiza klasteryzacji terytorialnej i funkcjonalnej jest oparta o modele korelacyjne dynamiki czasowej i zbieżności strukturalno-funkcjonalnej infrastruktury kolejowej jako bazy ST w skalach czasowych – 150, 50 i 30 lat z oceną kwasi-okresowości i zbieżności na zbiorze 56 państw i wielkich STS – hiper-regionów z najbardziej rozwiniętymi ST. Udowodniono zmienność okresowości cykli zbieżności procesów i możliwość identyfikacji STS jako hiper-regionów transportowych.
Some results of analysis of regional development of great social-territorial systems’ (STS) sectors TSL (ST) in context of globalization and glocalization phenomena are presented. Analysis territorial and functional clustering is based on correlative models of time-dynamics and structural-functional convergence of ST-processes at STS. The changes in railroad infrastructure (as base of analysis) has been estimated in time scales 150, 50 and 30 years with evaluation of periodicity and convergence on set of 56 states and great STS – hyper-regions with most developed structures of ST. The variances of convergence cycles of ST infrastructural and functionality developing processes, and the possibilities of identification of STS as the transporting hyper-regions have been proved.

Artykuł prezentuje metody modelowania semantycznego procesów zachodzących w sektorze transportu państw członkowskich UE i analizę historyczno-systemową grupy systemów terytorialno-społecznych (STS) w porównywaniu z innymi systemami. Za podstawę przyjęto semantykę opartą na taksonomii transportu kolejowego. Badano zmiany infrastruktury i pracy przewozowej na tle procesów wytwarzania PKB. Analizą objęto retrospektywnie okresy 30-, 20- i 15-letnie. Modelowanie identyfikuje zmiany fazowe w STS, obiektywizuje oceny wpływu czynników geopolitycznych na rozwój i trendy przed- i pokryzysowe.
The article presents the semantic modeling methods used for study of transportation sectors evolution at EU-members groups – social-territorial systems (STS) with comparison to other systems. The main goal of modeling is the evaluation of geopolitical processes influence on convergence and sustainability of economics development. The base semantics to comparison is railroad transportation taxonomy of infrastructure, freight haulage and passengers carriage in projection on GDP producing processes. The analysis periods are 30-, 20-, 15-year long retrospectives. The models identify the STS phase changing making more objective evaluation of factors influence on evolution and crises trends.

Supply chain management is one of the most important elements of sustainable development. And due to the fact that the world market is driven by supply and demand, and the determinant of access to products is regional and international logistics, this paper focuses on the possibilities of implementing a green transport strategy in the context of sustainable development in logistic enterprises. This paper presents the results of the SWOT analysis pointing out the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats of green vehicles market for the transport enterprises. It was noticed that the situation on the green vehicles market for the transport enterprises is characterized by the advantage of strengths and these strengths should be used to maximize the use of green vehicles. It emphasized that subsidies for green vehicles would allow to invest in a modern fleet, new solutions (e.g. own charging stations) can have an impact on the greater energy efficiency (self-sufficiency), increase of social awareness would force enterprises to take appropriate actions in the field of environmental protection and development of public transport based on green vehicles.

The article presents the description of methodology and examples of case studies methods used for sustain states estimations and identification of abnormal crises dynamics. Methods are based on historical-systematic (HS-) analysis of autonormalized indexes of all modes of sectors of transportation progress (state changing) at the large social-territorial systems (STS) such as USA, European Union (EU-28) and Russian Federation. Analysis is carried out in structural and functional context and provides the complex evaluations of processes convergence (synergy).

This paper aims to analyse the planning of chemical transports shift from road to the more complex multimodal freight transport, and presents a toolbox developed to support the participants in the process. In literature the research problem of multimodal freight transport planning is analysed mainly from mathematical models’ perspective. There is a lack of studies focused on multimodal transport chain collaboration and the tools supporting it. Within the framework of research conducted during the ChemMultimodal „Promotion of Multimodal Transport in Chemical Logistics” project, within INTERREG Central Europe Programme, the research team identified challenges related to modal shifts in the chemical industry, and next developed the toolbox addressing these challenges and supporting participants’ collaboration on multimodal chemical freight transport planning. The toolbox embraces: (1) consulting services, (2) planning guidelines, (3) the Intermodal Links platform, which suggests intermodal connections between two points, and (4) a CO2 calculator. Conclusions from the first pilot tests showed the necessity of a complex approach to the process of modal shift planning. Transport managers testing the toolbox the most appreciated the consulting services, which include a marketing platform integrating chemical producers and distributors, logistics companies, carriers, terminal operators, rail network operators and others. This platform is used to share information on current transport patterns, existing potentials, and possible actions to establish and promote modal shift.

Purpose: The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the safety of unmanned transport in armed conflicts, with a particular focus on the Russo-Ukrainian war. Methodology: The authors employ a multidimensional comparative analysis of selected Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) used for reconnaissance, combat, and transport tasks. Various sources such as scientific literature, military reviews, historical facts, technical specifications, and illustrations support the arguments and compare different types of UAVs. Results: The authors confirm their research thesis that in current geopolitical conditions, UAVs will become one of the equipment elements of the armed forces of individual European countries. They highlight their diverse functionality, positive impact on safety, and technological progress. Theoretical Contribution: This paper contributes to the field of military technology by providing a comprehensive analysis of the role and impact of UAVs in modern warfare. It offers valuable insights into the evolving nature of conflict and the increasing reliance on unmanned technologies. Practical Implications: The findings of this research have significant practical implications. They suggest that the use of UAVs in future military technologies will become increasingly common, and their combat capabilities and electro-optical equipment will continue to improve. This underscores the need for ongoing research and development in this area to ensure these technologies' safe and effective use in the context of armed conflict.

Opis:
The article describes public transport co-modality for sustainable development of a public transport system. New strategies are needed to make the city public transport more efficient, more accessible and more sustainable. There are some concepts described in the article. The concepts are illustrated with practical examples - how it is possible to increase the capacity of infrastructure and what has been done in the city of Riga for public transport sustainable development. Key benefits of each concept are also described. A more efficient use of city space, allocated to transport improves the overall performance of all the passenger transport system. The paper presents the concept of aid - a base graph approach to calculate the territory assigned to the particular stop of public transport for the cost optimization. Efficient planning and better use of infrastructure, as well as passenger-friendly interchanges and good traffic management, allocated to public transport, bring the public transport system towards sustainability.

Opis:
Purpose: The article presents issues related to the transport of slaughter animals in terms of sustainable development and during the time of increased interest in animal rights. The aim of the article is to analyze the functioning of transport companies involved in the transport of animals. The first part of the article presents issues related to animal welfare, which is part of the concept of sustainable development. Particular attention was paid to the issue of welfare during the transport of farm animals to the slaughterhouse. Methodology: The article presents the results of the Supreme Audit Office on the transport of animals, which were carried out in 1998, 2003, 2005 and 2017, and the results of inspections belonging to the tasks of the Veterinary Inspection in the Silesian Voivodeship in 2019 and 2020.Then the author presents her research results. The survey was conducted among the owners of enterprises handling the transport of slaughter animals in the Silesian Voivodeship and among drivers and guards of these enterprises. 94 business owners and 92 drivers transporting animals participated in the study. Chi-square tests were used to show the relationship between the variables Findings: On the basis of the conducted research, it was found that the control system is conducive to the enforcement of the law in the field of transport of animals for slaughter in enterprises. Originality/value: In the context of sustainable development, the subject of animal welfare is being increasingly regarded as essential. Ensuring animal welfare is now the key issue for public opinion, livestock farmers, animal rights organizations, entrepreneurs, transport companies and slaughterhouses. The awareness of people related to publicizing animal abuse is increasing, and we as consumers also have a right to know how animals were treated on farms and during transport.
