Opis:
The presented study closely explains R. Caillois’ theory of game principles, while attempting to point out its apparent application in the digital dimension. It is our main intention to clarify the significance and topicality of the characteristics of individual game categories within media products – digital games. Thus, confrontation between the fundamental theoretical framework and its consequent practical application within the selected case study occurs in the submitted scientific text. The study’s ambition is to identify the indicative characteristics of R. Caillois’ game categories in the selected media product – the digital game Sudden Strike 4. The chosen research material can be qualified as a suitable representative of the strategy game genre, which was the direct determinant of our selection. Therefore, the primary objective of the study is to ascertain the possible application of R. Caillois’ game theory in the strategy game genre. For the purposes of achieving the defined objective, the author uses methods of logical analysis of text in combination with qualitative content (narrative) analysis. She thus presumes a certain increase and revaluation of the existing scientific knowledge necessary for both the theory and practice.

Opis:
The aim of the research is to identify positioning skills of a contestant, based on original criteria of activities assessment, from the point of view of their diversity and the degree of the risk involved. The basis of the presented concept of research is the division which takes into consideration the accuracy of a player’s action who is able to create scoring situation at a given moment of a match as well as controlling the positioning of the game or counteracting the actions of his opponent. The main subject of interest in this case is so-called positioning, which constitutes the essential “substance” of events taking place in the field, at least in its voluminal aspect. The presented paper constitutes an element of development of a wider research concept, which enriches the theory of sports games in their praxeological dimension. In future, the aim of similar analysis will focus on a pragmatic aspect which could be implemented, however, at the present stage the results are of theoretical value only.

Opis:
Background. Tactics is a crucial part of the game at all levels of play, but it seems of absolute importance at a professional level. In fact, among the reasons why top players have improved their game so much during the last few years have been both their ability to analyze their opponents and their adeptness at applying all of the tactical concepts them have learned in the match play. This is what the authors call “tactical maturity”. The goal of this study is to find a new way of the tennis game observation. Material and methods. The observation data were collected from the game between Maria Sharapowa and Agnieszka Radwanska who met in the final of the Indian Wells played in Miami in 2012. A research tool was a data registration checklist designed by the authors which included the description of the chosen variables and criteria enabling their quantification. The collected results were presented in tables and indexes. Results. The criteria proposed in the sheet included the game situation, which enables players to create point-scoring situations by applying: 1. tactical actions to achieve various point-scoring situations, 2. a vast variety of strokes to win the point or create a point-scoring situation, 3. creation of the game in the point position (spatial flexibility). Hence, the player should be taught such efficient activities during the game. Conclusion. Nowadays, players who play tennis at the world top level are characterized by a high level of game situation oriented on scoring the point in the first shot, or in the next one.

Opis:
The paper briefly presents a theory of games with finitely many infinite populations (types) each of whom has finitely many available strategies; the payoff of an individual player depends on the distribution of choices of strategies in all populations and his own particular choice. We give specific examples of applications of the theory in several areas: spatial allocation (of species), economic models – household economy and transportation networks. We also briefly discuss questions of computation of equilibria and relations of large games, as understood in the present paper, to ordinary matrix games, games with continuum of players and evolutionary game theory.
Praca zawiera skrótowy opis gier ze skończoną liczbą nieskończonych populacji (typów), z których każda dysponuje skończoną liczbą strategii; wypłata pojedynczego gracza zależy od rozkładu wyborów strategii wszystkich populacji i jego własnego wyboru strategii. Podajemy konkretne przykłady zastosowań w kilku dziedzinach: alokacja przestrzenna (gatunków), modele ekonomiczne – model gospodarki drobnotowarowej i model ruchu drogowego. Dyskutujemy też krótko zagadnienia obliczeniowe i związki dużych gier, jak przedstawiono je w tym artykule, ze zwykłymi grami macierzowymi, grami z continuum graczy i z ewolucyją teorią gier.

Opis:
Players ONE and TWO play the following game: In the nth inning ONE chooses a set $O_n$ from a prescribed family ℱ of subsets of a space X; TWO responds by choosing an open subset $T_n$ of X. The players must obey the rule that $O_n ⊆ O_{n+1} ⊆ T_{n+1} ⊆ T_n$ for each n. TWO wins if the intersection of TWO's sets is equal to the union of ONE's sets. If ONE has no winning strategy, then each element of ℱ is a $G_δ$-set. To what extent is the converse true? We show that:
 (A) For ℱ the collection of countable subsets of X:
  1. There are subsets of the real line for which neither player has a winning strategy in this game.
  2. The statement "If X is a set of real numbers, then ONE does not have a winning strategy if, and only if, every countable subset of X is a $G_δ$-set" is independent of the axioms of classical mathematics.
  3. There are spaces whose countable subsets are $G_δ$-sets, and yet ONE has a winning strategy in this game.
  4. For a hereditarily Lindelöf space X, TWO has a winning strategy if, and only if, X is countable.
 (B) For ℱ the collection of $G_σ$-subsets of a subset X of the real line the determinacy of this game is independent of ZFC.
